Chapter 799: Chapter 787: The Little Detective (17)

Shirley Lockwood pouted and didn’t say anything more.

Normally, she would have argued with the beautiful lady, but this time, she was sensible and smart enough to hold her tongue.

Because she was afraid her dad would really start to hate her and stop liking her, all because of this beautiful lady.

’If that really happened, it wouldn’t be worth it at all.’

Archie Lockwood opened the car door, let Shirley get in first, and then lifted Eleanor Bishop into the car as well.

Watching this, Shirley, who was sitting right next to Eleanor Bishop, felt incredibly depressed, envious, and jealous...

’That’s right, it was jealousy. She was sick with jealousy!!!’

’When had her iceberg of a father ever treated her so gently?’

’She was his own daughter!’

’She was starting to seriously wonder if she was even his biological daughter. Why was her dad a hundred times nicer to this woman than to his own flesh and blood???’

Once in the car, Eleanor Bishop didn’t notice the series of expressions flashing across Shirley’s face.

She was quite pleased that Archie had taken the initiative to lift her into the back seat to sit next to Rory.

So, while she was in a good mood, she also felt a bit apprehensive. She nervously clutched her clothes and smiled gently at the girl beside her. "Rory, what sort of things do you like?"

"Huh?" Shirley’s thoughts had been drifting. Hearing the beautiful lady speak, she turned back in surprise, not quite understanding what she meant.

Eleanor involuntarily reached out to stroke Shirley’s cheek. Smiling dotingly, she asked again, "Rory, what kind of things do you like? Can you tell Mo—...?" But she stopped abruptly, having almost let the word "Mom" slip out.

Her expression turned awful. Even Archie, who had just started the engine, felt his heart sink. His face instantly darkened...

"Huh? What was that?" Shirley’s little face looked awful now, too.

Seeing Rory’s confused little face, Eleanor’s heart ached. She forced a reasonably natural-looking smile and corrected herself. "Rory, can you tell Auntie?"

’Yes, that’s right... Auntie...’

’Right now, she didn’t even dare reveal her true identity.’

Suppressing her complicated feelings, Shirley nodded with a smile that didn’t reach her eyes. "Sure, of course. But... beautiful lady, you must like my dad a lot, right?" ’Is that why you want to be my stepmom?’

"Rory, Miss Bishop and I are getting married soon, so you should start calling her Mom." Fearing Eleanor might say the wrong thing under Shirley’s interrogation, Archie cut in, his voice low and heavy.

"What?" Shirley cried out, utterly shocked.

Archie patiently explained to Shirley again, "You heard me clearly. Miss Bishop and I are getting married soon, so it’s perfectly normal for you to call her Mom."

Archie’s words didn’t just shock Shirley; Eleanor was stunned as well. The only difference was that upon hearing them, all Eleanor felt was a sense of irony.

’Start calling her Mom? It’s perfectly normal to call her Mom?’

’How ironic those words were!’

After hearing Archie’s definitive statement, Shirley clenched her little fists, her eyes red with anger. She leaned back against the seat and fell silent.
