Chapter 240: Chapter 240: Boss Jiang is Truly a Deity, the Neighboring Street is Extremely Envious
"So, should we go back and ask him?"
"Okay! Hmph, if I catch him saying mean things, I’ll spank his bottom good and proper!"
Tongtong waved her little hands excitedly.
’Spanking her daddy’s butt had always been her dream.’
...
「The Market.」
Jiang Liu arrived at the Vegetable Boss’s stall, soaked to the bone.
The Vegetable Boss said with concern, "Boss Jiang, you really shouldn’t have. If you needed vegetables, you could’ve just given me a call! Why come all the way over here? I would’ve just delivered them to you."
"Look at your T-shirt, it’s soaked through! What if you get sick? What would all of us customers who eat your food do then?"
’He’d tried Boss Jiang’s food before—it was unbelievably delicious.’
’He was already planning on making the restaurant his go-to spot for a happiness boost.’
Jiang Liu replied nonchalantly, "It’s no trouble at all. I’m sturdy. A little rain is nothing to worry about. Think of it as a nice way to cool down."
The Vegetable Boss’s heart went out to him.
When it was time to pay,
the Vegetable Boss pulled out a large, red umbrella from behind the counter.
"Boss Jiang, take this. It’s big, so you won’t get wet."
Jiang Liu smiled. "Thanks for the offer, but it’s okay. It’s just a short walk, and I’m already soaked anyway. I’ll be fine."
"Just listen to me. Everyone in the surrounding neighborhoods is counting on you."
"...Alright, then. I’ll bring it back to you another day."
Jiang Liu didn’t argue further and graciously accepted the Vegetable Boss’s kind offer.
Pleased, the Vegetable Boss threw in a bag of cucumbers for free.
You’d think it was Jiang Liu who had done him a favor, not the other way around.
Jiang Liu didn’t even take a break when he got back to the restaurant; he started working immediately.
A whole crowd of his customers was waiting, after all.
’What if they got caught in the rain, fell ill, and didn’t show up?’
「5:40 PM.」
When the rain let up, Jun Qingmeng grabbed Tongtong’s hand, and the two of them jogged all the way to Yangzhai Street.
Along the way, Jiang Liu’s customers all greeted them, acting as their loyal protectors.
If a mugger had tried to rob the two "little angels" right then, their fate would have been absolutely tragic.
Back at the restaurant, they both breathed a sigh of relief.
"Phew! Daddy’s restaurant is the coziest. Now Miss Rain can’t find us, hehe."
"Your dad’s probably busy in the kitchen."
Tongtong stood on her tiptoes, looking for any sign of Jiang Liu.
"Daddy! Your little cutie is hoooome! Where are you?"
Jun Qingmeng also called out to the kitchen with a smile,
"Jiang Liu, your girlfriend is back!"
They were both incredibly happy to see Jiang Liu.
Hearing their voices, Jiang Liu came out from the kitchen.
His face lit up with joy.
"You’re back! Did you get caught in the rain?"
"Nope! We snuck back, so Miss Rain didn’t see us, hehe."
"Jiang Liu, why are your clothes damp?"
Jun Qingmeng, ever observant, immediately noticed his damp clothes and a few matted clumps in his hair.
Tongtong noticed it instantly too. She ran over worriedly and rubbed her cheek against Jiang Liu’s hand. "Daddy, are you okay? What happened? Tongtong’s here."
Jiang Liu stroked his daughter’s hair and smiled, brushing it off. "I went out to buy vegetables and got caught in the rain. It was just a drizzle, nothing to worry about."
"Why don’t you take better care of yourself?!"
Jun Qingmeng was angry now. She frowned at Jiang Liu.
’She couldn’t stand seeing her boyfriend neglect his health; it made her heart ache.’
Jun Qingmeng picked the umbrella back up.
"Jiang Liu, wait here. I’m going back to get you some dry clothes."
"It’s really fine. We’ll be heading home soon anyway. I can just take a hot shower then, right?"
Jiang Liu gave a wry smile.
’Was this really necessary?’
’He didn’t want her running back and forth in the rain.’
"We’re still four hours away from closing. What happens if you get sick before then?"
Jun Qingmeng’s expression was frosty; she wasn’t having it.
"That’s right, Daddy! Tongtong doesn’t want you to get sick. Please listen, okay?"
Jiang Liu argued, "What if it starts raining again and you get soaked too?"
Jun Qingmeng replied without a moment’s hesitation, "It doesn’t matter if I get wet. You’re not staying in those damp clothes."
"Be good! I’m heading out. You get back to work."
She turned and walked out as she spoke.
’Jiang Liu was speechless. His girlfriend was just too stubborn when it came to doting on him...’
Tongtong reluctantly let go of Jiang Liu’s hand.
"Mommy, let’s go together!"
"Tongtong, can you stay here and keep your daddy company?"
Tongtong shook her little head. "I don’t want to stay with a daddy who won’t listen. Mommy, let’s go together! It doesn’t matter if we get wet and sick, as long as Daddy doesn’t get sick."
Jun Qingmeng no longer tried to refuse, and left, holding Tongtong’s hand.
Jiang Liu stood at the entrance to the kitchen,
utterly baffled.
’Did I just get shunned??’
「6:00 PM.」
Jun Qingmeng and Tongtong hurried back into the restaurant, carrying bags.
They had even brought a small space heater.
Fortunately, it had only drizzled a little on their way back; the downpour hadn’t started again.
"Listen to me, Jiang Liu. Come change into these new clothes."
Jun Qingmeng pulled a pair of gray sweatpants and a long-sleeved shirt out of the bag, along with a pair of boxers that made her blush.
"Alright, could you step out for a minute? I’ll change in the kitchen."
"Acting like a shy maiden!" Jun Qingmeng’s ears turned red as she shot Jiang Liu a look, then she left Tongtong behind and stepped out of the kitchen.
"Daddy, Tongtong picked these clothes for you! Hurry up and put them on to get warm."
Tongtong thoughtfully handed the clothes to Jiang Liu.
’Daddy was getting more and more disobedient. As the pillar of the family, she had to step up.’
After changing,
Jiang Liu felt much more comfortable.
He felt dry and at ease.
His previous clothes had been clinging to his skin, constantly sapping his body heat and making him miserable.
「7:05 PM.」
Jiang Liu officially opened for the evening.
His customers were freezing.
Shivering, they brushed the rain from their clothes and rushed into the restaurant.
"You’re finally open! You were killing us! Brother Jiang, can I get ten shrimp buns and five chive and egg buns, please."
"I’ll have an order of the yak beef and three bottles of juice."
"Hurry, hurry! One bottle of juice, ten three-delicacy buns, five fennel buns! Is there anything new on the menu tonight?"
Jiang Liu shook his head. "No."
"Alright then. Still no new items... it’s tough being one of your customers."
The surrounding customers were deeply disappointed. They were all dreaming of the day Boss Jiang would add more delicacies to the menu.
They’d buy it no matter the cost!
Just as Jiang Liu sold his first few batches of buns,
two old men at the entrance had their hands around each other’s necks.
They glared at each other like mortal enemies.
"What gives you the right to cut in front of me? Just because you’ve got one foot in the grave?"
"Bah! You’re the one with one foot in the grave! I was clearly fifteenth in line!"
"Stop it, you two! Stop fighting!"
"You’re disrupting Boss Jiang’s business!"
A group of older women tried to break up the fight.
But the two old men stubbornly refused to let go.
Jiang Liu had to step in and separate them.
It turned out that his words, as Yangzhai Street’s "Little Princess," carried a lot of weight.
The moment he spoke, the two men didn’t dare to continue their fight.
Uncle Ma gnashed his teeth, glaring at Uncle Wang. "If Boss Jiang weren’t here, I’d have snapped your leg in two today!"
Uncle Wang sneered, not to be outdone, "If Xiao Jiang weren’t standing right here, you think you’d still be warm? Huh?"
"Bah! You stubborn old coot!"
"You old fossil!"
It wasn’t until they started eating their buns
that the two of them finally ended their war of words.
"Delicious!"
"I never thought that I, Wang Youzhun, would get to enjoy such a blessing in my old age."
Outside, a light rain began to fall again, and the wind howled.
As evening drew near, the temperature dropped even lower,
but even so, the crowd in front of Jiang Liu’s restaurant still numbered in the hundreds.
The queue stretched all the way down to the entrance of Jiujiu Restaurant.
The business owners on the next street over were green with envy when they heard about it.
On rainy days, their streets were practically deserted.
It was nothing like Yangzhai Street, which was still bustling with people despite the rain.
’That Boss Jiang is a goddamn miracle worker!’
