Chapter 282: Chapter 282: Getting Registered, Carrying Her Home

After leaving the restaurant, Alaric Blackwood went straight back to the Reid Group.

He had barely stepped into his office when Nina Halloway called. "Dad’s in the hospital. He’s just faking it to get sympathy."

Alaric Blackwood chuckled thoughtfully. "That just means you’re easy to fool."

Nina Halloway pouted. "Have you been to the hospital to see Dad?"

"I have."

"Then you got fooled too."

"..."

"I can’t talk anymore, I’m busy."

Nina Halloway said, about to hang up.

Alaric Blackwood stopped her. "Busy with what? You haven’t even set up your agency yet. What could you possibly be busy with?"

Nina Halloway huffed and ended the call.

She was on her way back to The Metropolis, her long legs crossed as she sat in the back seat. Tossing her phone into her bag, she leaned back against the leather seat with her arms crossed and asked Ethan Austin, who was driving, "Have I been on break for too long?"

Ethan glanced at her through the rearview mirror. "Not at all."

’She hasn’t even fully recovered yet and is still as skinny as a rail. I cook all sorts of gourmet food for her every day, but she hasn’t gained an ounce.’

He wondered if Nina Halloway was the type who could eat anything and not gain weight.

"Are you thinking about working again?"

Nina Halloway shook her head. "Honestly, I’d rather just do nothing."

"If you want to do nothing, then do nothing."

’It’s not like we’re short on money.’

But after some thought, Nina Halloway still insisted on starting the company. "I want to give our future children a better life and more choices. I have to keep working hard."

Hearing her mention "children," Ethan’s cheeks flushed. "Why are you suddenly talking about kids?"

’We’re not even married yet. Isn’t it a bit early to be talking about children?’

Nina also realized something. She leaned forward and whispered in his ear, "Ethan, should we go get our marriage license?"

"Now?"

"Do you want to?"

"I do."

He wanted to more than anything.

"Then should we go home and get our documents?"

Nina Halloway nodded, her face blushing.

Ethan stomped on the gas in his excitement. The wheels screeched against the pavement, practically spitting sparks.

If it weren’t for the city speed limits, he would have made the car fly.

Back at The Metropolis, he pulled Nina Halloway into the house. They got their documents ready and each put on a white shirt underneath their clothes, so they’d be ready for the marriage certificate photos.

They put their coats back on, and he dragged Nina Halloway into the elevator in a flurry, rushing to the Civil Affairs Bureau before it closed.

In less than half an hour, the two had their official red marriage certificates.

"Could you help us take a picture?"

Nina Halloway opened the camera app on her phone and handed it to a staff member at the bureau.

"Of course."

She walked smiling to Ethan’s side, looped her arm through his, held up her marriage certificate, and rested her head on his shoulder.

Ethan stood ramrod straight. Copying her, he held his own red certificate in front of him, side-by-side with hers, facing the staff member’s camera.

CLICK.

The camera captured the sweet moment right after they got their licenses.

"All done."

The staff member looked at the photo, then walked over to Nina Halloway. As they handed back the phone, they quickly pulled out their own and took a selfie with her.

"I’m a fan of yours."

Nina Halloway grinned. "Thank you! C’mere, let’s have a hug~"

After hugging her fan, she linked her arm with Ethan’s and looked up at her big guy. "Ethan."

"Yeah?"

"Carry me home on your shoulder."

"You got it."

Blushing, Ethan skillfully wrapped an arm around her slender waist and hoisted her onto his shoulder in one swift move.

The fan excitedly snapped photos and immediately posted them on X.

In no time, the news that Nina Halloway had married her personal bodyguard was headlining every major entertainment chart.

All sorts of opinions erupted online.

Most were congratulatory, but there were also devastated fans crying out, "The hatred of having one’s wife stolen is irreconcilable!"

Ethan’s X account, which originally had only a handful of followers, started trending. Within ten minutes, resourceful netizens had dug up every detail about his identity. In the blink of an eye, his follower count shot up from a few to tens of thousands, and it was still climbing.

During the twenty-minute drive from the Civil Affairs Bureau to The Metropolis, Ethan’s X feed was already flooded with comments.

NinaForLife: [Bastard! You stole my wife! Draw your sword!]

MyNinaIsTheBest: [Give me my wife back! *roaring.jpg*]

PigOnTheFreeway: [Kid, I’ve already prepared one hundred and eight ways for you to die.]

...

By the time he had parked the car and was heading upstairs, Ethan glanced at the comments, and the hair on his arms stood on end.

He shivered and didn’t dare read any further. Shoving his phone back into his pocket, he raised a hand and gave Nina Halloway a light swat on her pert bottom.

The woman on his shoulder, arms wrapped around his neck, tilted her head to look at him. "What was that for?"

"Your fans have prepared a hundred and eight ways for me to die."

Nina Halloway laughed. "Then you’d better be careful."

Ethan broke into a cold sweat. "They’re not being serious, are they?"

"How would I know?"

"Are your fans really that aggressive?"

"I’m not too sure. Anyway, you just be careful."

"..."

The elevator arrived. As the doors opened, he walked out carrying Nina Halloway, opened the apartment door, and headed straight for the bedroom.

He tossed the woman from his shoulder onto the large bed, immediately looming over her. Pinning her wrists above her head, he narrowed his eyes and smirked. "Compared to a hundred and eight ways to die, I’ve thought of a hundred and eight positions."

Nina Halloway’s lips pressed into a thin line, her face turning as red as a ripe tomato. "Oh? That many?"

"Which one do you want to try first?"

...

「At dusk.」

A light rain began to fall.

A black Cullinan was parked in front of the Heart of the Ocean building, blocking the main entrance.

Just as Sophie Shaw was leaving work, bag in hand, the rear door of the Cullinan was pushed open.

Yuri, dressed in a sharp suit, stepped out with his long legs.

"Miss Shaw, long time no see."

"Mr. Yates?"

Sophie Shaw was quite surprised. "What are you doing here?"

"I came to ask if you’ve made a decision about the necklace."

"Well..."

She couldn’t help but think of the unreasonable demand Yuri had made before.

Recently, Vianne Kane had stopped pestering Yuri. She had already transferred the sixty million to Sophie Shaw, washing her hands of the necklace affair.

As for Sophie, she had wanted to use that sixty million to buy back the necklace but hadn’t contacted Yuri because she knew he wouldn’t sell it for that price.

"Get in the car. We can talk."

Yuri stepped aside, gesturing for her to get in.

She waved her hand. "No, thank you. I drove my own car."

"Miss Shaw, give me a chance."

"Please call me Mrs. Blackwood."

Yuri’s expression shifted slightly. Seeing that Sophie Shaw had no intention of getting into his car and was even walking toward her own blue Cayenne after a polite nod, he strode after her.

After Sophie Shaw pulled open her car door and sat in the driver’s seat, he plopped right down in the passenger seat.

"Mr. Yates, you..."

The man smiled at her, quickly pulling the seatbelt across and buckling it. "Since you won’t get in my car, I’ll just ride in yours."

Sophie Shaw was mortified. "We’re not going the same way, and it’s not convenient for me to give you a ride. My husband is waiting for me at home."

Yuri said shamelessly, "You don’t even know where I’m going. How do you know it’s not on your way?"
