Doomsday Rebirth: The Doctor and the General's Survival Farm
Chapter 87: The First D-Rank
The training center shook violently, sending heavy vibrations through the thick concrete foundation. Dust rained down from the reinforced ceiling as the shockwave from the little girl’s root spread through the isolation chamber.
"Everyone down!" Daniel shouted, his voice cutting sharply through the panicked noise.
The newly awakened trainees immediately dropped to the floor, covering their heads with their arms.
Raviah gripped the metal observation railing tightly, her knuckles turning white as another violent pulse of energy swept through the facility.
The small child’s body remained suspended in midair at the center of the isolation chamber, enveloped in a blinding aura of brilliant, iridescent light.
Her frightened, high-pitched cries echoed through the intercom system.
"I can’t stop it!" The little girl sobbed, her hands trembling uncontrollably.
Raviah reached out and immediately activated the isolation chamber’s manual suppression field.
"Reduce the atmospheric energy intake by thirty percent!" She commanded into the security radio.
Technicians in the control room scrambled to obey her orders, pressing buttons and pulling heavy levers.
Slowly, the little girl’s wild energy output began to stabilize as the containment field engaged.
The violent shaking of the facility gradually subsided until complete silence fell over the room.
Raviah let out a long, heavy exhale, her tense shoulders dropping slightly.
"She isn’t trying to attack us," Raviah said, her eyes fixed on the weeping child. "Her Root is simply overwhelming her body’s natural ability to control it."
Daniel stepped up beside her, staring through the thick glass panel in awe.
"So much raw power in such a small body..." he muttered under his breath.
Raviah nodded slowly, her expression growing deeply thoughtful.
"Which means power alone isn’t enough to survive," she observed.
That crucial realization quickly became the fundamental foundation for everything that followed across the settlement.
Over the next several days, Sol Haven’s Elemental Training Center operated continuously without a single pause. The newly awakened survivors trained rigorously from early morning until late in the evening.
They learned how to carefully sense the flow of their roots and channel their energy safely. They practiced releasing controlled bursts of power without letting the volatile energy consume their minds.
Among all the instructors, Daniel quickly emerged as one of the most dedicated and patient teachers. His own internal root began showing visible signs of change first. He had originally awakened as a standard E-Rank Elemental, possessing weak and unstable flames.
In the beginning, his fire sputtered and died whenever he became emotionally agitated or tired. However, after endless hours of intense discipline and repeated practice, the core of his power began to shift.
The raw energy of his root grew noticeably denser and far more refined. His internal circulation became smooth, allowing him to manipulate his flames with lethal precision.
Late one evening, Daniel stood alone in the center of the primary training chamber.
Raviah watched his movements from behind the upper observation glass.
Daniel closed his eyes and took a deep, steadying breath. A surge of vibrant elemental energy gathered swiftly around his body. The flames that had once flickered weakly around his fingers now burned with a steady, roaring brilliance.
BOOM!
A powerful, concentrated burst of elemental heat erupted from his Core, shaking the nearby sensors. Every diagnostic scanner inside the sealed chamber activated simultaneously, flashing with green light.
[ROOT DEVELOPMENT: COMPLETE]
[ENERGY ACCUMULATION: THRESHOLD REACHED]
[ROOT COMPREHENSION: INCREASED]
[ELEMENTAL RANK ADVANCEMENT DETECTED]
[E-RANK → D-RANK]
Daniel slowly opened his eyes, staring in awe at the bright, steady flames coating his knuckles.
The heat radiating off his body was noticeably stronger than ever before.
"I advanced..." he whispered, his voice filled with disbelief.
Raviah slid open the heavy door and stepped directly into the training hall.
"You did," she confirmed, offering him an approving nod.
Daniel looked up at her, still trying to process the sudden breakthrough.
"How did this happen so quickly?" He asked.
Raviah walked over to the monitoring terminal and studied his core energy readings on the screen.
"Structured training," she replied simply, pointing to the fluctuating graph.
"Your root developed rapidly because you pushed your energy to its limits repeatedly," she explained. "Your overall energy reserves expanded, and more importantly, your comprehension of your element deepened."
Daniel slowly clenched his right hand into a tight fist, extinguishing the fire instantly.
"So an Elemental’s rank advancement can actually be accelerated," he noted.
Raviah’s eyes narrowed slightly as she pondered the broader consequences.
"Potentially," she answered.
She turned her head to look out the narrow window toward the bustling fortress beyond.
"In my previous life, most people never had access to concentrated energy, proper guidance, or core knowledge this early," she murmured.
"Now, they do," she added, her voice laced with serious weight.
The strategic implications of this discovery were immense.
If deliberate cultivation could accelerate rank advancement, the entire trajectory of humanity’s fight for survival had changed.
Elementals would no longer remain weak and helpless for months after awakening. They could actively train, refine their abilities, and become formidable combatants in a matter of weeks.
Predictably, Rhyder wasted no time in capitalizing on this breakthrough. Within forty-eight hours, he officially established Sol Haven’s first dedicated Military Elemental Squads.
Fire Elementals were grouped into heavy ranged assault units to break enemy formations. Earth Elementals were assigned to engineering corps to construct defensive stone barricades instantly.
Water manipulators were tasked with support, hazardous containment, and specialized field operations. Air manipulators were placed in high-speed reconnaissance and mobility scouting teams.
Survivors with speed enhancements were organized into rapid-response ambush squads. Those with healing abilities were integrated directly into elite combat medical platoons under Raviah’s oversight.
Unusual or rare roots were placed directly under Rhyder’s personal command for strategic deployment. Every soldier in the fortress underwent mandatory root classification, energy testing, and tactical training.
The foundational structure of the military itself began to evolve rapidly. A soldier could no longer be judged solely by their conventional military rank or marksmanship. Elemental capability had suddenly become the ultimate strategic resource on the battlefield.
Rhyder stood tall before his assembled senior officers during the very first joint briefing.
"From this moment forward, conventional armed forces and specialized Elemental squads will operate as unified units," he declared firmly.
He paused, sweeping his intense, commanding gaze across the silent room.
"The old world is gone, and the way we fight must change with it," he added.
Not a single officer in the room raised a voice to disagree. Humanity had officially crossed the threshold into a new era of survival. Yet, deep inside her heart, Raviah understood a far more terrifying truth.
If structured training and energy exposure could accelerate growth, then humans were not the only beings evolving.
The Zerg swarms were adapting to human weapons with terrifying speed. Zombies were growing stronger by consuming energy cores from the fallen. Wild beasts were mutating into monstrous horrors across the ruined landscape.
The fragile balance of power in this post-apocalyptic world had permanently shifted. Several days later, the sharp, piercing scream of an emergency alarm echoed from the southern gate.
Raviah and Rhyder arrived at the main checkpoint together within minutes.
A travel-worn convoy of exhausted survivors had just entered the outer security zone. Armed guards were meticulously scanning each newcomer with handheld energy detectors. Suddenly, one of the scanning devices began blaring a high-pitched, desperate warning alert.
[EXTREME ELEMENTAL SIGNATURE DETECTED]
[ROOT CLASSIFICATION IN PROGRESS]
Rhyder’s expression instantly hardened as his hand dropped to his sidearm.
The scanner’s digital display flashed brightly before locking onto a final reading.
[ELEMENTAL RANK: A]
A heavy, suffocating silence fell over the entire checkpoint. An A-Rank survivor, possessing power capable of devastating entire battlefields, had just casually walked into Sol Haven.
Raviah stared at the mysterious figure in complete shock, her blood running cold. She had never seen or heard of this person in her previous life.
