Douluo Dalu 4: Ultimate Fighting
Chapter 1187: Anticipating the Sea God’s Fate Matchmaking Event
Lan Xuanyu chuckled. “The Sea God’s Fate Matchmaking Event is basically just a formality for us, isn’t it? We’ve been together for so long already.”
Bai Xiuxiu pouted. “That won’t do. I’ve heard so many stories about the Sea God’s Fate Matchmaking Event. Your parents fell in love at that event too! It’s a grand occasion within Shrek Academy, and only Inner Court disciples can participate. We’re both Inner Court disciples. If we don’t take part in the Sea God’s Fate Matchmaking Event, it’s like we never had the Academy’s blessing—that would be a huge regret. Let’s go, alright?” By the end, there was a pleading look in her eyes.
Lan Xuanyu’s heart softened immediately. “Of course, of course we’ll go. I definitely want the person I love to be with me in the proper way. Alright, I’ll stop teasing you. Let’s start cultivating. You just broke through today, so you can use these Dragon Marrows to stabilize your cultivation and see if you can succeed in condensing the energy into liquid. If you pull it off, we’ll be able to absorb dragon energy even faster. The Rising Dragon Competition has given us too many benefits—we shouldn’t waste a single one.”
Bai Xiuxiu nodded. “Yeah, it’s because of this competition that we’ve both made such obvious progress. Still, you need to be careful. Don’t get carried away and expose our identities.”
“Mm, I will.” Lan Xuanyu’s expression turned serious. He was now the focus of attention of all the Dragon Knights, but he was also becoming more and more like a member of the Dragon Clan. He hadn’t used the Dragon God’s power in battle yet, but if he wanted to keep winning from here on out, he would probably have to. He hoped the Dragon Knights were mentally prepared enough not to be too shocked when the time came.
Bai Xiuxiu once again put her top on backwards and had Lan Xuanyu help her apply Dragon Marrow for marrow refinement, spending the long night in cultivation.
One day on the Celestial Dragon Planet was equivalent to thirty-six hours on the Douluo Federation—a day and a half. So even though they had been here for a few months, the actual time was fifty percent more than that many days here. But due to various other cosmic factors, they couldn’t tell what time it was back in the Douluo Federation right now.
Since arriving on the Celestial Dragon Planet, apart from that one trip back to pick people up, they hadn’t returned at all. After several months, they had come to understand the Celestial Dragon Planet fairly thoroughly.
Lan Xuanyu had already formulated a preliminary plan. Here, the most important thing for them was not how many resources they brought back to the Federation, but to use the resources here to improve themselves while gaining a deeper understanding of their opponents.
The clash between the Douluo Federation and the Dragon Horse galaxy was not something that would be settled in a year or two—it would likely be measured in centuries. So they had plenty of time. It was a pity that there was only one Treasure Seeking Beast; if others could integrate into Celestial Dragon society as well, everyone would benefit even more.Still, with so many plant-type soul beasts as cover, the others living in the wild could sustain their cultivation well enough.
The Rising Dragon Competition had determined its top eight, and now nearly the entire Celestial Dragon Planet, and even the Celestial Steed Planet, was following the event. On the Celestial Dragon Planet, apart from the Dragon Knight Selection Battles, the Rising Dragon Competition was the most highly regarded event. The Dragon Clan powerhouses who made it to the finals could all be considered candidates for future Dragon Knights. The higher the ranking, the more outstanding they were among the candidates—they were the ones with the potential to become reserve Dragon Knights.
Lan Xuanyu could clearly feel that after they entered the finals, when they walked the streets, the common folk looked at them with a different kind of gaze—it had shifted from mere fervor to reverence, the kind of reverence reserved for those of higher status.
After all, throughout the entire Dragon Horse galaxy, the Dragon Knights stood at the very top.
If any unrest or special incidents arose within the Dragon Horse galaxy, a single Dragon Knight dispatched would often resolve the matter immediately—that showed just how prestigious the Dragon Knights were.
The contestants once again ascended the Rising Dragon Platform. Only nine people remained, including Lan Xuanyu and Bai Xiuxiu, making the platform seem even more desolate.
Two of the Dragon Knights who had come to observe today were absent—the Second Seat and Darkfiend Dragon Knight Luo Yayuan had not come. Only five Dragon Knights were watching, and Mokong Dragon Knight Luo Lan remained the leader. Although Heaven-Defying Dragon Knight Long Chaoyang outranked him, Luo Lan was still the one in charge.
Luo Lan raised a pillar of dragon force light and his gaze naturally turned toward Lan Xuanyu and Bai Xiuxiu, a smile on his face.
Lan and Xiuxiu making it into the top eight had already satisfied Luo Lan greatly. It had completely exceeded his expectations. His recognition of Lan was based on the level of her bloodline, not her combat strength. After all, “she” had only just come from the world of wild dragons into the world of true dragons and had been training orthodoxly for a short time. He never expected that under these circumstances, “she” would still fight all the way through to the top eight.
Based on past Dragon Knight Selection Battles, making the top eight meant a high probability of becoming a reserve Dragon Knight. Moreover, Xiuxiu had already become Lan’s Dragon Mount, so Lan didn’t need to go through the mount-selection trial—in Luo Lan’s eyes, Lan was already a reserve Dragon Knight.
And the competition wasn’t over yet; it would continue. In the matches ahead, “their” chances of winning weren’t small either.
If “they” could ultimately take the championship, that would truly make Luo Lan look great.
Right now, all the Dragon Knights held Lan in high regard. Setting everything else aside, just the fact that “she” had triggered the energy within the Rising Dragon Platform and given the Dragon Knights hope for further advancement had already greatly increased their favor toward “her.”
“Let’s begin.” Luo Lan waved his hand, signaling the official start of today’s matches.
The quarterfinals.
Today, Darkfiend Dragon Knight Luo Yayuan wasn’t present, so the draw was conducted by Mokong Dragon Knight Luo Lan. Beams of light were released, colliding and falling in the air toward the eight finalists.
With the four other Dragon Knights witnessing, even if Luo Lan wanted to help Lan and Xiuxiu cheat, it would be impossible—the draw was bound to be random.
Qi Tianlong stood right next to Lan Xuanyu. What he hoped for most right now was not to be matched against Lan—not because he was afraid of losing, but because he wanted Lan’s ranking to climb even higher. If he were the champion and Lan the runner-up, that would be a truly beautiful story!
Qi Tianlong had never doubted that he would win this Rising Dragon Competition. It wasn’t just him—the Dragon Knights themselves all knew that the championship of this Rising Dragon Competition was all but a foregone conclusion; it would be his. His true strength far surpassed that of the other contestants.
Lan Xuanyu raised his hand and caught the lot number that came near him. Number two—first to compete again.
He couldn’t help but feel a bit helpless. In this Rising Dragon Competition, he was definitely the one who had drawn the first match the most times.
The referee stepped onto the field and said in a deep voice, “Number one and number two, enter the arena.”
He had no idea who had drawn number one.
Lan Xuanyu showed his lot number to Bai Xiuxiu, who also looked a little helpless. She smiled gently, took his hand, and the two walked onto the field together.
Seeing them step forward, Qi Tianlong’s face broke into a smile. His number was seven.
A handsome young man with a somewhat gloomy expression walked out in turn, slowly making his way to the competition field.
Seeing this opponent, Lan Xuanyu’s expression grew serious. This was one of the championship favorites on par with Xu Yanmo and Qi Tianlong—the eldest son of the Tang Family, the elder brother of Tang Yanxuan, whom Lan Xuanyu had once faced—Tang Lengxuan.
Back when Lan Xuanyu had defeated Tang Yanxuan, he had already felt the gaze of Tang Lengxuan upon him. In the quarterfinals, he was up against this one.
