Dungeon Corpse Stacker: I Absorb Everything to Become Ominous Monarch
Chapter 103: The Sky Above the Eastern Strait
The alarm Klaxons inside the combat information center of the HMS Vanguard shrieked in an unbroken, deafening wail.
Commodore Sterling slammed both palms onto the steel rim of the central tactical plotting table, his polished brass buttons rattling against the console. The deck beneath his leather boots tilted violently twelve degrees to port as a four-hundred-foot surge of displaced ocean slammed into the destroyer hull. Across the bridge, coffee mugs shattered on the steel grating, and three young sonar technicians were thrown from their swivel chairs against the reinforced bulkheads.
"Report on that wave!" Sterling bellowed, his aristocratic composure cracking as red warning strobes painted his pale face in rhythmic flashes. "Was that a subterranean tectonic event? Did a localized mana rift rupture beneath the keel?"
"Negative, Commodore!" the tactical coordinator yelled, clinging desperately to his terminal frame. "The seafloor did not crack open! It rose! The bathymetric depth beneath our hull just jumped from six hundred meters to forty meters in eight seconds! We have massive structural bedrock pushing directly toward the surface!"
Before Sterling could process the impossibility of the statement, the thick armored glass viewports of the bridge rattled under a sudden, concussive boom that vibrated straight through the crew’s ribs.
Outside, the gray afternoon storm clouds over the Eastern Strait did not merely darken. They were torn apart by an ascending spear of pure, compressed ocean foam.
From the boiling vortex of black seawater, the jagged titanium prow of a sunken twentieth-century aircraft carrier breached the surface like the jaw of an ancient sea dragon, lifted entirely on the broad stone shoulders of Shadow Commander Thorne. The massive, rusting hulk slammed into the starboard side of the escort destroyer HMS Defiance with the sound of a falling skyscraper.
The reinforced steel plating of the modern warship crumpled like an empty tin can.
Compartments flooded in seconds. The screech of shearing rivets and pressurized steam pipes bursting echoed across the churning waves. Within less than thirty seconds, the four-thousand-ton modern destroyer was split clean down the centerline, dragged into the foaming dark abyss by dozens of multi-limbed shadow chimeras swarming through the breach.
Commodore Sterling watched the destruction of his finest escort vessel through wide, bloodshot eyes, his hands trembling so violently he could barely hold the fleet-wide emergency handset.
"Launch the air wing!" Sterling screamed into the microphone, spitting flecks of foam onto the brass grill. "Scramble every Class-S dive bomber from the cruiser deck! Deploy the heavy mana torpedoes! Fire! Fire at anything moving in that black foam!"
From the rear flight deck of the nearby Aegis cruiser HMS Sovereign, four supersonic dive bombers roared down the hydraulic launch tracks.
Their swept-back titanium wings were lined with heavy plasma-tipped torpedoes engineered to crack deep-sea dungeon barriers. Twin turbine engines screamed into emergency afterburner, spewing blue-white fire as the aircraft lifted into the low, weeping clouds, climbing rapidly toward the cliff tops where the hostile coastal radar batteries operated.
The pilots never reached their cruising altitude.
A single figure stood weightlessly in the center of their flight path, five hundred feet above the stormy ocean.
Renan did not look at the four screaming aircraft bearing down on him at Mach 3. His black woolen coat hung loose around his frame, untouched by the freezing ocean spray. The passive gravity domain radiating from his core flattened the raindrops into a fine, static vapor around his shoulders, creating an absolute zone of silence that swallowed the deafening roar of the jet turbines.
"Lead pilot to Vanguard," the radio transmission crackled through Sterling’s headset, choked with raw, unmitigated panic. "We have a visual on the rogue entity! He has no flight harness! No glider wings! He is standing on empty air!"
"Erase him!" Sterling roared through the link. "Release the plasma payload directly onto his coordinates!"
The four supersonic bombers opened their ventral weapons bays simultaneously. Eight twelve-foot plasma torpedoes dropped from the pylons, their rocket boosters igniting with a blinding orange roar as they converged on Renan from four distinct angles.
Renan slowly lifted his right arm.
He did not draw a blade. He did not summon an obsidian barrier. He simply spread his five bare fingers wide into the rushing wind.
The air pressure between the four converging torpedoes inverted.
An invisible, suffocating gravitational well, denser than the tectonic plates of the continental shelf, formed instantly at the center of Renan’s palm. The eight supersonic torpedoes—carrying enough concentrated mana-explosive to level an entire mountain fortress—screeched as their trajectory vectors snapped ninety degrees inward.
The warheads collided directly into one another twenty paces in front of Renan.
A blinding sphere of white-hot plasma detonated in the middle of the sky. The thermal blast wave scorched the clouds for two miles in every direction, turning the ocean surface below into a boiling cauldron of bubbling steam. The sheer kinetic shockwave blew the four supersonic bombers backward, snapping their titanium wings like brittle twigs and sending the mangled wreckage spiraling into the sea.
Through the center of the roaring white fireball, Renan walked forward.
Not a single hair on his head was singed. The dark fabric of his coat did not carry a single speck of soot. The passive density of his Sovereign Body absorbed the multi-megaton thermal output as if it were nothing more than a warm summer breeze.
On the bridge of the HMS Vanguard, Commodore Sterling watched the young man step out of the burning sky.
The aristocratic officer felt the strength drain from his legs. The silver medals pinned to his chest felt as cold and heavy as lead weights. The fleet doctrine he had studied for thirty years at the Royal Naval Academy, the treaties of Geneva, the invincible reputation of the British Hunter Division—all of it meant nothing before the terrifying reality walking toward his ship.
"He walked through a tactical plasma strike," Sterling whispered, his voice barely audible over the weeping of his executive officer. "He didn’t even activate a defensive skill."
The water directly in front of the Vanguard’s bow parted with a sickening hiss of displaced steam.
Shadow General Ignis rose from the foam, landing heavily on the forward gun deck of the destroyer. The eight-foot titan planted its iron sabatons into the teak decking, cracking the structural steel beams below. The eight-foot executioner broadsword in its shadowy gauntlets began to hum with a mixture of black dragon fire and corrupted holy mana.
Renan drifted downward through the mist, landing softly on the raised bridge roof above Sterling’s head.
The steel roof groaned beneath the simple, unhurried weight of his boots. Renan looked down through the panoramic observation glass, his purple pupils locking onto the shivering commodore with the calm, terrifying certainty of a judge delivering a predetermined sentence.
"Your eighty minutes are up, Commodore," Renan’s voice rang out, quiet, measured, and echoing directly inside the skulls of every surviving sailor across the two remaining warships.
Sterling reached for his personal sidearm with shaking fingers, aiming the heavy enchanted pistol through the reinforced roof plating. "This... this is an act of international piracy! The Royal Navy will hunt your bloodline to extinction!"
Renan did not answer. He simply curled his right hand into a fist and drove a single, short strike downward into the reinforced armor of the bridge deck.
The entire four-hundred-foot warship broke in half with a deafening metallic roar, the bow plunging straight toward the seabed as thousands of shadow tentacles erupted from the boiling ocean to claim the souls of the drowning crew.
