Dungeon Miner Slave
DMS Chapter 123
Flinx thought of what he would pose as before entering the town. With his resources, he could even pose as a traveling merchant, but he thought that if he did something like that, he might invite greed and attack from the local criminals.
He decided that he didn’t want to make it complicated and would just pose as a lone foreign adventurer. Flinx just hopes that the townsfolk wouldn’t be the xenophobic type.
Flinx saw that there was a chance that this place was relatively peaceful compared to a dangerous place like Beldor Town, since first, the town wasn’t enclosed in a wall, and second, the people that he had observed while he was up in the sky didn’t look afraid and just looked like mundane folks doing their daily chores. What it meant to Flinx was that the people in that town weren’t afraid that they would be attacked by monsters, which he found a little peculiar since he did see a couple of them out in the wilderness.
He also hadn’t seen any signs of magic. That only made him warier because why didn’t the monster try to attack this town? He didn’t see any runes or arrays that would drive monsters away.
The good thing about the item, the Actor’s Mask, was that Flinx could disguise himself without resorting to using a hood, since that would only make him a suspicious character in his opinion. The disguise that he chose looked like one of those world-weary adventurers that he usually saw when he went to queue at the entrance of the Dungeon of Mara.
Flinx started walking towards the main road of the unknown town. He was still a little unbelieving that the townsfolk didn’t choose to erect a wall to surround their town, since it’s clear that there were dangerous monsters out in the wilderness, possibly inside the forest a little west of the road.
After entering the town, Flinx finally learned why there wasn’t a wall. It was actually a temporary town. Even though the place was big enough to be considered a town and not a village, most of the structures inside looked temporary. The only permanent buildings were the ones near the main entrance of the town.
He had read similar things about these kinds of establishments. According to some of the novels that he had read, temporary towns were created by nomads who followed the herd of animals that they were taking care of. Flinx finally noticed a herd of some sort of alien cows being taken care of by men in the distance south of the town. Near the herd of animals, he finally saw significant signs of magic.
Flinx was happy to see a large tavern near the town's entrance. He went inside, approached the bar, and ordered a mug of ale. Once the bartender served his drink, he asked the man for the best place to buy information.
“Information? You want to speak with Adus. He’s the man, sitting alone on that table,” The bartender said, while pointing at the rogue-looking man at the corner table.
Flinx almost giggled when he saw that the man looked like Strider from the movie The Fellowship of the Ring. The main difference was that the tavern was bright due to the hour. It wasn’t even midday yet.
He didn’t waste time and approached the man.
“Can I sit here?” Flinx asked, and the man nodded.
“How can I help you?” The man who was named Adus by the bartender said.
“I need information.”
“I have a lot of information as long as you’re willing to pay.”
Flinx would have hesitated since any questions he might ask that were related to the wizard enslavers were probably extremely dangerous, but the fact that he couldn’t afford to delay any longer since his fellow Earthlings were in danger of getting killed by the wizards, and the fact that he was wearing a disguise, made Flinx think that even if something terrible happened, he would be able to escape.
“I’m looking for a bunch of wizards. I don’t know the name of their organization, but they are using this symbol on their robes,” Flinx showed the logo that the wizard enslavers had embroidered on their black mage robes.
“20 gold coins,” the information broker replied.
Flinx felt stupid for not keeping some of the gold coins that he had with him. All of his coins were placed inside the chest in his bedroom, where Olivia could get them if he couldn’t return to his tower in Ilioven.
Instead of paying the man gold coins, he handed a single low-level mana stone. The man named Adus grinned, swiped Flinx’s mana stone, and hid it somewhere in his body.
“The symbol that you’ve shown me is the symbol used by Torbal Slavers. It’s a dark wizard organization famed for its cruelty, but they don’t exist anymore. They were wiped out by the Church of Norbal.”
“I received information that they had survived. I need to find them to make sure that they’re all killed. They wiped out my family,” Flinx said.
“The only information that I can tell you is that the best place where you can find more information about those wizards, if there are truly any survivors, is the dark city of Gremos, in the kingdom of Vernal. It’s a dangerous city filled with malevolent wizards and powerful criminals.
Flinx asked Adus where to find the dark city, and since he had paid the man one mana stone, which was equivalent to 100 gold coins, the information broker actually gave him a map. Since he had received all the information he wanted from the man, he left the broker alone and sat at another table. He perused the map that he purchased from the broker and saw that the city that the man was talking about would take him a month of travel by horse.
The city of Gremos was located far to the west. To get there, he would pass several towns and cities. Flinx planned to head towards the city of Gremos, but he would still try to find more information about the so-called Torbal Slavers in some of the cities he would pass through.
After he was done examining his new map, Flinx went to the bartender and asked where he could exchange some of his mana stones for gold coins. The bartender asked how much he wanted to exchange, and when Flinx told the man that he wanted to exchange 10 low-level mana stones into gold coins, the bartender offered to exchange them for him. Flinx shrugged and showed the bartender 10 low-level mana stones. The bartender left the bar for a couple of minutes, and when he returned, he gave Flinx a purse containing one thousand gold coins, so he promptly handed the bartender his mana stones.
Flinx’s exchange with the bartender didn’t go unnoticed. Soon, most of the customers were looking at him with malicious intent. Flinx didn’t care since he would leave this temporary town immediately. Once he was outside and out of the way, he cast the Fly spell and the Invisibility spell and started flying towards the west.
Once he was above, Flinx glanced back at the town and saw that a few people were trying to look for something or someone, and more than likely, they were trying to look for him. He simply laughed and continued his flight.
