Dungeon Miner Slave
DMS Chapter 259
Olivia was thrilled when she learned that the owner of the shop she managed was about to become a high-ranking adventurer and a noble of the kingdom. This meant she could use Flinx's rank and power to expand the business. The fact that Flinx was a hands-off employer who was also naively generous meant that her wealth and that of her brothers would increase tremendously.
As a matter of fact, Olivia had never told anyone that Flinx gave her as much as forty percent of the shop's income. This was an unprecedented share, one that was usually reserved for close family members.
Olivia knew that she had taken advantage of Flinx, and perhaps out of guilt, she admitted as much to him. Flinx simply told her that it did not matter to him because, in truth, the value of gold coins meant very little to him.
He explained that if the shop's earnings were in mana stones, their shares would be different. Although a low-level mana stone was supposedly worth one hundred gold coins, no one could actually purchase mana stones using gold coins.
The only people who sold mana stones for gold coins were low-level adventurers, and Flinx considered exchanging a huge amount of gold coins for low-level mana stones a poor investment. It was also common knowledge that the Adventurer Guild and the nobles were currently the only ones permitted to purchase mana stones using gold coins from low-level adventurers.
Flinx told Olivia that if he needed mana stones, he could simply gather them himself by delving into dungeons.
Currently, Flinx's transmigration system accepted only mana stones. As a matter of fact, Earthlings who possessed the transmigration system could purchase gold through their system's shopping site if they wanted to.
"I'll make sure to choose the best people to serve as your secretaries. How many do you need?" Olivia asked.
"How many do you think I'll need?"
"I recommend that you follow the advice of the wizard who helped you with your ranking-up examination."
Flinx had already mentioned to Olivia that Abericht had advised him to hire at least a couple of people.
"I wish I knew how much power you'd have once you're officially confirmed as a Baron," Olivia said.
When Flinx asked why she wanted to know, Olivia admitted that she wanted to use his power and influence to expand her shop.
Flinx told her that he did not want to add any more products. Olivia assured him that he did not need to, since she would handle any additional products she might introduce in the future.
Since that was the case, Flinx handed her the first manual Abericht had given him, which detailed the privileges and responsibilities of a Platinum-rank adventurer and a Baron of the kingdom. Olivia could be considered one of his own people, so he had no problem letting her read it.
The second manual, which contained sensitive information, was intended for his eyes only.
If Flinx were being honest, the contents of the second manual had made his blood boil. It described all sorts of perverse and illegal things he could get away with simply because of his adventurer rank and noble title.
One example was the ownership of slaves, referred to as serfs. What made matters worse was that he could apprehend anyone he fancied and force them into servitude.
In truth, the second manual had made Flinx look down on Ilioven a little. It confirmed that, despite the kingdom appearing somewhat progressive, it still operated under the principle that those with sufficient strength could do whatever they wanted.
Flinx noticed that Olivia had begun focusing on the privileges and responsibilities outlined in the Platinum-rank adventurer manual, so he said goodbye and left.
He then went to the Mage Guild to inform them in person that he intended to invite David, Arcios, Keero, Violet, and their teachers to the celebration at the castle, where he would be promoted to Platinum rank and receive the title of Baron of the kingdom.
Flinx told the receptionist that the date had not yet been confirmed, so the formal invitations would be sent at a later time.
The mage serving as the receptionist became excited upon receiving the news and assured Flinx that the message would be passed on to his charges’ teachers.
With that taken care of, Flinx returned to the compound. Since he had nothing else to do, he went to his bedroom in the tower to take a nap.
Before lying down, he reviewed his character sheet in his system panel.
It showed that he had two classes. His Wizard class was currently at level 13, with only 3 percent of the experience points needed to reach the next level remaining. His second class, Cleric, was at level 8, with 15 percent of the experience points.
As for his Wizard and Cleric spells, he had already purchased all the spells available through his system panel.
He was already familiar with casting his Wizard spells, but Flinx thought he still needed to become more accustomed to his Cleric spells.
Flinx's fourth tab, which served as his version of a gaming inventory, had an enormous capacity of 1,000 cubic meters. It contained all the mana stones he currently possessed.
His inventory held 6,582 low-level mana stones, 3,518 medium-level mana stones, and 2,498 high-level mana stones.
The remaining funds in his system shopping site account amounted to exactly $100,000, while the gold coins in his inventory totaled 104,000.
Flinx did not know how many gold coins were in the chest in his room, where Olivia deposited his share of the shop's earnings.
Looking at his character sheet, Flinx was pleased with the progress he had made. He knew that if he wanted his revenge against the Torbal Slavers to succeed, he would need to gain more levels, and he planned to do so over the next few weeks.
Once he grew tired of leveling up, however, he would resume traveling to explore the wonders of this world.
He had plenty of time. His friends who would join him in his revenge against the Torbal Slavers were still in the process of leveling up, and it would probably take them years to catch up with him.
That was fine with Flinx. He was willing to wait.
When he woke from his nap, Flinx joined the people partying beside Pondy.
In truth, parties were almost always taking place in the compound. The Earthlings who possessed the transmigration system were generous with their spending, possibly to ensure that their family members would not feel too unhappy about having their lives uprooted. As a result, food and drinks were always available.
The servants Olivia had hired also made sure that their employers were satisfied with the service they received.
When the delvers arrived, Flinx followed through on his promise and used his Wish spell with his thirteenth-level spell slot to make one of the elders young again.
Upon Olivia's arrival with her brothers, the excitement reached its peak. They brought news that word of Flinx's promotion to Platinum rank had already spread throughout the city.
This meant that, since the enormous compound was registered under Flinx's name, it was now considered property belonging to a noble of the kingdom.
Although Flinx had not yet officially become a Baron, his promotion had already elevated the status of everyone living in the compound.
When Flinx looked at the servants, he saw that they were all happier than he had ever seen them. They held their heads high, knowing that they were now servants of a noble.
The conversation eventually turned to Flinx's upcoming promotion celebration and ennoblement at the castle.
Basically, everyone wanted to join in the festivities.
The problem was that Flinx had no idea how many people he would be allowed to bring with him.
