Dungeon Miner Slave
DMS Chapter 48
Flinx switched to reviewing his spells when he got bored watching the scenery, but after an hour, he also felt bored reading them. After a while, he became restless and decided to walk alongside his carriage while it was moving to exercise. The caravan was moving slowly enough that anyone could walk and not get too far behind. He opened his wagon’s door and jumped off.
If he walked fast enough, he could roam around the whole caravan without any issue, so that was what he did. While walking around, he decided to inspect the area. He approached the border of the forest to the left of the road to look around, making sure that he kept his eye on the caravan. He could see the small animals in the trees, and some of them, like the squirrels, stared back at him.
He inspected some of the flowers that he saw, but did not touch them. He did not want to get poisoned due to his ignorance of the flora in the surrounding area. The caravan guards saw what Flinx was doing and just ignored him.
While examining a pretty purple flower, he heard some noises inside the forest. Flinx then saw a large deer that was running away. He saw that the deer was wounded. He then saw three goblins chasing the deer. He immediately killed the goblins using a single cast of his magic missile spell, then used Telekinesis to check the three goblins for mana stones, and they had none. Then he saw the deer fall in the distance. The poor deer was heavily wounded, so Flinx ended its misery. He stored the deer’s carcass in his 4th tab space and ran back to the caravan.
He planned to ask for assistance from either Camryn or Oliman regarding butchering the deer for meat later in the evening.
Flinx felt that he had enough exercise, so he entered his wagon and rested inside. By noon, he saw the river that the two arms merchants were talking about. He then saw the caravan stopping and the guards preparing themselves. He thought of the fact that the water source would probably have some predators and monsters waiting nearby to hunt for prey, and that was probably the reason why the guards were readying themselves. Still, there was truly a need for caravans to stop at a water source. They needed to refill their water tanks.
He did not need to do the same thing since Flinx bought bottled water from his system shopping site. He also did not need water for bathing since he planned to keep using his Prestidigitation spell to clean himself while traveling. If he truly desires to bathe, he could cast his Galder’s Tower spell once the caravan stop and he could bathe in its bathroom for as long as he wanted.
To be honest, if Flinx truly wanted comfort, he could summon his Galder’s Tower every night. He thought that it should not be a problem since everyone in the caravan knew that he was a wizard. He just thought that the tower was a little pretentious, and he wanted to experience traveling inside a wagon. It was comfortable enough due to the season being perfect for traveling.
Camryn and Oliman volunteered to help Flinx fill up his water tank located at the top of his cart, but he declined. He told the brothers that he could use his spell for cleaning, and he already had enough clean water inside his spatial item for his drinking needs.
“I wish we had something like a Spatial Item. It would be easier to travel with something like that,” Camryn sighed.
“Only the most powerful wizards and nobles have something like that,” Oliman sighed as well.
Flinx watched the merchants carry water to fill their tanks while the caravan guards patrolled the area, making sure that everyone was safe. After a while, he got bored and started exploring the area. He wanted to see if he could kill some monster that would be attracted by all the hullabaloo that the caravan people were making. After a few minutes, Flinx realized that the only creatures that he could see were tiny forest animals. Barthos did tell him that once they were far enough away from Beldor Town, monsters would be rarer.
After about an hour, everyone was finally done filling their water tanks, so the caravan moved on. He asked Oliman if the river water was safe to drink, and the merchant laughed. The man told him that it was safe as long as one was used to experiencing the runs. The merchant told him that they would need to boil their drinking water before they were safe to drink.
When the sun had set, everyone started preparing for camp except for Flinx, who had nothing to do, so he did what he usually does: watch everyone else prepare. Besides, the process was simple. They would just set up some cooking station on top of the campfires they made, and that was it. Everyone sleeps inside their wagons.
“Camryn, Oliman, I killed a deer inside the forest. Can we use it for food? I can provide the salt, pepper, and other seasoning,” Flinx asked the brothers, then retrieved the deer’s corpse from his 4th tab space.
Camryn examined the corpse while Oliman asked what spices he could provide. Flinx told the merchant that he could provide salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and chili powder, enough to cover the whole deer if they planned to roast it.
The two men suddenly became energized and said they could roast it. Oliman ran to Redra’s cart to ask for assistance from them regarding cooking the deer. Flinx purchased the spices he promised them and gave them to Camryn. He spent 50 dollars on all the spices, and Camryn looked delighted.
Soon, a lot of people were eyeing the deer that Camryn, Oliman, and Redra’s son-in-law was roasting. Flinx had to admit that the smell from the deer covered with spices that was being roasted over an open fire was making him hungry. He could see that everyone else was the same. Even Barthos, Martha, and their kids arrived since they too had smelled the spices-filled deer.
Flinx was not stingy and offered a bite to everyone. Since there were so many people, they could only have a small portion of meat. At the very least, the deer meat would be a nice accompaniment to whatever everyone had cooked. Even something as simple as bread would become highly palatable paired with the deer meat heavily seasoned with spices.
Camryn returned the unused spices to Flinx, who promptly stored them in his 4th tab space. He knew that there would be more chances to use them in the future, especially once he switched to cooking his own food instead of buying cooked meals from his System Shopping Site.
Everyone in the caravan enjoyed their meal, with a little meat from the roasted deer cooked by Camryn, Oliman, and Rendra’s son-in-law. After dinner, Barthos and some of the other merchants approached Flinx about the spices used on the deer.
Flinx stopped everyone from wanting to inquire about the spices' availability by telling them that he had no more items that he could sell, and the spices that were used were the only ones left and were left for his own use.
The merchants seemed to understand and left, but Barthos glared at him. Flinx was really starting to get irritated by the greedy caravan master. Thankfully, the caravan was big enough that there were a lot of people with whom he could associate instead of Barthos and his family.
