Dungeon Miner Slave
DMS Chapter 53
Flinx rushed back to the caravan so he could start his plan of spending the time they stayed in this town cooking. While trying to find his way back, he actually got lost and accidentally entered an alley. He was flabbergasted when four people tried to mug him.
The muggers looked dangerous compared to the young farmers who turned to banditry. They actually looked like addicts from Earth, and for a moment, Flinx wondered if there were illegal substances in this world as well. He would not be surprised if there were those things here as well, though.
He immediately cast the 1st-level spell Mage Armor and the 4th-level spell Stone Skin. He did not want to get injured, even accidentally. Then he cast the 2nd-level spell Gust of Wind to blow away the four would-be muggers. He chose a spell that was not deadly because he did not want to kill anyone while he was in this town.
The four men were pushed to the wall by Flinx’s spell, and as expected, they were not severely injured. When the muggers were able to gather themselves, they immediately ran away without looking back.
Flinx just shook his head and tried to go back to the major road. When he arrived there, he asked one of the pedestrians for directions to the place where the caravan had set up. Upon reaching the caravan, he told one of the caravan guards about the muggers so that they would be prepared if anyone arrived claiming that he injured some people. The caravan guards just shrugged and told him that even if he killed those robbers, he should not worry too much. He was a gold rank magic caster adventurer, and the Oatwheel Town authorities would not trouble him for such a thing.
He returned to his wagon, planning to set up a cooking area beside it, but when he got there, there were still a lot of townspeople roaming around, looking for things they could buy from the caravan merchants.
Flinx asked one of the caravan guards who was patrolling around for the best place where he could set up a kitchen, and was led to the area beside Barthos’s carriage. He knocked on Barthos’s wagon, and it was Martha who opened the door.
“Is there something you need, Flinx?” Barthos’s wife asked.
“Can I use the area beside your wagon to cook? I planned to cook my meals for the next few months, so I don’t need to cook anymore,” Flinx asked.
“They would not spoil?” Martha asked.
“No. Not inside my spatial item.”
For a moment, Martha looked envious, but then she gave permission for Flinx to set up his makeshift kitchen beside the caravan master’s wagon. Next, he found a bargain purchase a pack of 1000 plastic meal containers for 150 dollars inside his System Shopping Site. He also spent another 100 dollars to purchase supplementary ingredients that he would use for cooking.
During the next five hours, Flinx busied himself cooking and managed to fill out 70 plastic containers of different varieties of cooked meals. He also had a few people watching him cooked including Barthos’s children.
He managed to cook a total of 120 plastic boxes of meals. He would have continued cooking, but it was already late, and Barthos complained that the smell of his cooking would disturb the caravan master’s rest.
The next day, Flinx spent the whole day cooking until he managed to fill 350 plastic boxes of food. The activity emptied out all of the groceries that he purchased, and his propane tank was emptied out as well. Still, the activity would allow him to have food and drinks for 4 months.
The caravan master informed Flinx that the caravan would be leaving the next day, and Flinx simply nodded. Back at his wagon, he felt satisfied upon seeing the food and drinks that he had prepared inside his 4th tab space. That meant that the remaining money that he had in his System Shopping Site would not be used for food unless Flinx had a craving for something that he did not cook, like desserts, alcohol, and other miscellaneous things.
Flinx rested well that night since he was really tired from cooking the whole day. The next day, the caravan left Oatwheel town early. He felt lazy, so Flinx stayed inside his cart and watched the scenery, but after a couple of hours sitting inside his cart, he got bored. He could have used his 1st tab inside his System to watch movies or television shows, or even read a novel, but he still felt tired of doing that since that was what he had been doing while he was a dungeon miner slave. He decided to join Camry and Oliman in their cart so he could talk to them while traveling.
He exited his wagon and ran towards the two arms merchants' wagon.
“Do you need something, Flinx?” Camryn asked.
Camryn was the one driving the wagon while Oliman was inside. The two men take turns driving their wagon.
“Can I join you? I got bored sitting alone inside my wagon,” Flinx asked, and Camryn nodded.
He climbed into the wagon driver's seat. The space was enough for four people, so there was no problem sitting beside Camryn. Oliman even joined them by going through an opening behind the driver's seat.
For the next few hours, the brother talked about a lot of things, like their daily lives inside Ilioven, their goals, their families, and more. Flinx was grateful that both brothers were extremely chatty and taught him a lot of things.
Camryn and Oliman knew that Flinx’s goal of going to Ilioven was to delve into the high-level dungeons there, and since they were arms merchants, they knew a lot about adventuring in the city.
He was so grateful for what the brothers were teaching him that when noon arrived, Flinx retrieved three of his meal boxes and gave Camryn and Oliman one. When he purchased the plastic meal storage containers, he made sure to choose the larger ones so that he could put a lot more food inside, so the containers had more than enough food for an individual. He also provided cold bottled water.
The brothers praised his cooking, which Flinx expected since his meals followed the recipes he found on the internet, and they contained the correct amount of spices to make them delicious. Once they were done eating, Flinx stored the containers in his 4th tab space after cleaning them, and they all returned to talking about things that Flinx needed to learn as an adventurer inside Ilioven.
Flinx had a feeling that the two had adopted him as some sort of younger brother. When the sun started to set, the caravan guards started looking for the best campsite where they could spend the night, but usually, they would just stop and park the wagons beside the road.
He returned to his carriage to leave Camryn and Oliman set up for the night. While inside his wagon, Flinx summoned his familiar and used his owl to check the surrounding area. Thankfully, he did not find anything that would bring danger to the caravan.
He planned to join Rendra and her family in her wagon the next day to talk to her about being an adventurer. Flinx thought learning from different people would broaden his horizon.
After eating dinner and cleaning himself using his Prestidigitation spell, Flinx planned to spend the next few hours reading a novel, but after a while, he fell asleep. He underestimated how tiring traveling inside a wagon was.
