DMS Chapter 63

The last action made by Semanor made Flinx extremely nervous. He wondered if he hadn’t managed to get out of the way, would he have been severely wounded?

Flinx was a little pissed off by Semanor’s last action. He immediately cast the 3rd-level spell Slow onto the shield warrior, summoned a 4th-level Elemental that he promptly commanded to attack Semanor. That made the shield warrior a little busy.

The elemental was defeated by Semanor in just a few seconds, showing to Flinx, and everyone else for that matter, that the shield warrior had truly reached an extremely high battle prowess, deserving the title as one of the guild’s Platinum rank adventurers.

Flinx cast the 5th-level Bigby’s Hand spell again in an attempt to hold the warrior for a little while, then he immediately cast all the glowing motes from his Crown of Stars, which was one of Flinx’s 7th-level spells and among his most powerful. He then followed it up with his 7th-level Disintegration Spell.

Semanor used his glowing shield skill again, and a large glowing shield emanated from the man’s shield, but after four glowing motes hit it, the illusory glowing shield disintegrated, and the remaining motes from the Crown of Star spells and Flinx’s Disintegration spell hit Semanor.

That last series of attacks was supposed to be Flinx’s deadly move, and it worked. An alarm sounded, informing everyone that Semanor had received a massive amount of damage. The shield warrior looked pissed, then suddenly he grew large after shouting. Flinx nervously looked at Semanor, who looked suddenly like the man was undergoing a Super Saiyan mode.

Flinx cast the 1st-level spell False Life and the 3rd-level spell Major Image, hoping that the spells would be enough to avoid receiving fatal damage.

He was about to cast more spells to attack Semanor, but then suddenly the man started laughing, returned to the ground, and dispelled all the skills that he was using. Based on the man’s action, it seemed like the battle was over, so Flinx followed suit by dispelling all of his spells and then approached the man.

Semanor smiled at him and told him to follow him inside the guild. The battle did not last long. Just under 10 minutes, but based on the audience’s reactions, they were satisfied with the battle.

Once they were inside the guild, Runt, Kid, Dirt, and Flea rushed towards Flinx.

“Flinx, you’re very powerful! Can you teach me magic?” Runt said, jumping up and down.

He saw that the other three kids were in the same state of excitement as Runt.

“We’ll talk later. I have to follow Semanor,” Flinx told the kids.

He just smiled when Flinx saw the four kids continue following him, who was following Semanor. The shield warrior led him to an office. Once they were seated, with the kids behind Flinx, Semanor started talking.

“I’m surprised by your ability, Flinx. Based on what I’ve seen, you’re already qualified as a Platinum Rank adventurer. Unfortunately, I can only grant you the Diamond Rank since that’s the test you signed up for. Also, you will need to fulfill more Diamond rank guild missions to qualify for the Platinum Rank. Still, congratulations. You’re now a Diamond Rank adventurer and could enter any of the kingdom’s Gold Rank dungeons. For a fee, of course. Just stay here in the guild for an hour or two so we can replace your Gold Identification Guild Card with the Diamond one, and also to receive the earnings from the battle earlier. Do you have any questions?”

When Flinx told Semanor that he didn’t have any questions for now, the shield warrior told him that if he thought of any, he could just approach any of the guild’s receptionists, and they should be able to answer all his queries.

After that, Semanor left them in his office to work on Flinx’s card.

“Semanor, couldn’t move with all the spells that you threw at him!” Runt said once Semanor left.

“Yes! You just throw those powerful magics at him one after another, and all of them look splendid! I want to learn them all!” Kid added.

“What do you call those spells?” Dirt asked.

For the next hour, Flinx entertained himself and the four orphans by telling them the names of the spells that he used in the battle and the descriptions of the spells. Flinx, describing the spells to the kids were taking so long because once he was done describing a spell, they would interrupt him to shout praises like “Cool!” or “I want to learn how to do that!”

He could understand their excitement since, just like them, he really loved magic as well.

“Unfortunately for you kids, I can’t teach magic. I simply don’t know how,” Flinx told the kids, who looked extremely disappointed.

After a while, he saw them picking themselves up from their disappointment, which actually made Flinx a little sad. He saw the kids were used to so much disappointment that they had learned how to deal with something like it in an incredibly mature way.

He was honest with them since his magic came from his system. He didn’t even know how wizards learn their spells. Flinx had an inkling of how they do since he had been reading fantasy novels for so long.

Flinx remembered from some of the novels that were based on the most famous tabletop role-playing game that novice mages would first learn Cantrip spells by memorizing them from spellbooks provided by their teachers. Once they were used to memorizing and casting cantrips, their magical strength would grow, and once it reached some sort of threshold, they would start memorizing 1st-level spells and then so on.

Of course, he didn’t know if it was the same in this world. If it were, he knew that becoming a mage would be an incredible hurdle for anyone wanting to be one, because, based on those novels, spells from spellbooks were written in another language. That meant that a person would need to learn the magical language that was used for spells before they could attempt to memorize spells.

Flinx only knew how to read and write the common language, and he was just a beginner in that.

Semanor returned and handed Flinx a fine-looking Diamond Guild card. The card was some sort of bluish metal that was bordered by crystals that he supposed represent diamond. Flinx didn’t know if the crystal was actually diamond, but one thing he could say, that it was that the card was extremely gorgeous. Just like his previous card, it had a hole on it that a person could use so that the card could be used as a medallion.

Flinx immediately tied the new guild card using the leather cord that he was using before with his gold card, and he made sure that the diamond card was prominently displayed on his chest. Everyone laughed at how proud he looked when he started showing off his new medallion.

Semanor then handed Flinx a purse filled with gold coins, and the warrior told him that there were 1,200 gold coins inside. The coins were the payment and the tip made by the adventurers and nobles who were lucky enough to behold the fight between Flinx and Semanor.

Flinx grinned at the fact that his gold coins in his 4^th tab space climbed up to 2,020. After that, Semanor asked what his next plan was, and he simply told the man that he planned to delve into the dungeon immediately. Solo at first, and if needed, he might join a party.
