Chapter 1042: Chapter 1042: Telling the wives (3)
"THE CHURCH OF FUCKING LIGHT!!!!!!" Maya screeched at a volume so loud and high that a regular person’s eardrums would have perforated, thankfully Frost was far from normal, but he still felt a slight ache.
’Damn, I even braced myself beforehand.’ He stretched and clicked his jaw in an effort to relieve the build up in pressure.
Maya’s scream was soon followed up with dense, stomach curdling killing intent, bloodlust so pure that the air in the room grew heavy, thick and ladened with a strong scent of iron. A paper thin margin from invoking scenes of hell and death.
Daki with her C-rank strength visibly trembled, her upper and lower teeth chattering against each other as a heart piercing coldness struck her body. She felt a strong sense of fear, primal and instinctual as if she was sitting in the presence of a starving predator.
Given her life before her enthrallment with Frost she was no stranger to brutish thugs, soldiers that walked around with a natural ambience of death and even monsters searching for their next meal. Daki was no dainty flower, nor a fragile glass vase but a stalwart tree strong enough to brave against storms and stand proudly in the face of unrelenting winds but even so she couldn’t stop her body’s base reactions. Her instincts screamed danger, that Maya despite being her sister was at this very moment a threat to her, that a single wrong move on her part could place her on the young fenrir’s warpath.
She did not scream, she did not run nor did she allow herself to pathetically void her bowels, but she didn’t move either. Quiet as a mouse, invisible to the looming threat she stayed seated, hiding behind Frost’s large back, finally understanding why he asked her to move further back.
If she had to endure such gruelling intensity while within arm’s reach then she wouldn’t have been able to maintain control....she would have become a blubbering screaming mess, possibly traumatised by Maya’s display of unrestrained killing intent.
Such brutality didn’t suit her beauty but the naturalness of it made it all the more imposing.
While Daki fought against her baser urges Frost reacted with a mild sigh.
’Haaaa thank goodness. For a second there I was worried her killing intent wouldn’t have been affected by her sealed strength.’ While the piercing and chilling quality was still very much present the overall intensity and strength was a far cry compared to what he briefly experienced all those months ago. Dark’s seal of her strength was very thorough, limiting each and ever facet of her power....it still gave him the shakes, however.
Goosebumps formed atop his skin and the hair on the back of his neck stood on end, instinctively he became alert as if geared for battle but logically he maintained his cool, allowing the waves of killing intent to slam against him, letting only the residual force reach Daki.
’She’s doing better than I thought. Shocked at first but with every passing moment she’s getting used to it.’ He briefly turned his head to see Daki in the corner of his eye. She was trembling but not to an exaggerated degree and from what he could tell she was still in control of her body as a whole, the stunned look in her eyes clearing with time.
’I know you’ll probably blame me for this later but a little brush with death does wonders in improving one’s strength.’ Frost could have easily ordered her to leave the room or more appropriately shielded her better from the onslaught, but he purposefully chose not to in an effort to stimulate her survival instincts. Perhaps because of this she’d feel more inclined at least on an instinctual level to claw her way to B-rank.
’Well in for a copper in for a gold.’ Since he already allowed her to experience threat he might as well go all in. Frost suddenly reduced his blocking efforts, allowing a much larger portion of Maya’s still growing killing intent to breeze past him and assault Daki.
"Eepp." The moment the almost tangible killing intent struck her, Daki loosed a high pitched squeal, her heart halting its beat in abject terror as she felt a numbness spread throughout her lower limbs, a warm, wet sensation ran down her thighs....she leaked.
’I’m definitely going to end up paying for that.’ The noticeable scent in the air and the sound of urine dripping down her leg couldn’t escape Frost’s senses and he knew instantly that it would come back to bite him in the ass down the line but at the same time he didn’t regret his decision. As despite her inability to retain fluids Daki remained otherwise composed. She loosed but a single scream before covering her mouth with her hands and though she lost much feeling in her legs she didn’t allow herself to reveal such vulnerability, remaining firmly seated on the sofa rather than slumping to the ground in a catatonic mess just asking to be devoured.
Such mental fortitude was hard to come by, even soldiers with years of battle experience under their belts might struggle to remain as composed as she was. Many would either run away from the danger, choosing flight as their response. Not exactly a wrong choice but sometimes running can stimulate an aggressor’s hunting instinct or in this case leave a lingering trauma in the mind, potentially damaging the relationship between those involved....something Daki absolutely refused to do. She would not look upon her sister with terror.
Whereas another group would fight, stare death in the face and recklessly charge towards it, another pointless endeavour in Daki’s eyes. Maya was much, much stronger than her, fighting her would be nothing but a death sentence but more importantly she didn’t want to fight her, she had absolutely no reason to as this fear she was feeling was merely an instinctual reaction to Maya’s outburst. An outburst that wasn’t even being directed at her.
So she stayed where she was, giving her all to remain calm and collected, ready to lend Maya her support if she needed it. A powerful display of the affection and trust she had in her sister lover.
Beneath the surface however her decision to embrace the danger and Frost’s actions which allowed her body to feel a genuine threat invoked a change in her soul. Power that she normally found fleeting in her grasp, impossible to command flowed freely, protecting her body and soul like a suit of armour.
Aura or rather a temporary display of it shielded her from the more adverse effects of Maya’s killing intent, growing imperceptibly stronger with ever wave that battered against it.
’Hoh! I hoped for an inch and I got a mile.’ Daki’s display of aura regardless of it being an unconscious reaction had Frost smiling from ear to ear, he was ecstatic but unfortunately his smile rubbed Maya the wrong way. It was as if he was mocking her bloodlust, her display of fury and such a thing could not be allowed to pass.
"You think this is fucking funny Frost!" She bellowed, her voice taking on a far colder tone, one that caused even Frost to shiver uncontrollably.
’Ah shit.’
"The Church of Light, the most dangerous, heinous, depraved and mentally fucked up people on the planet and you with your..." She looked at the man before her; her expression and gaze filled with contempt and disdain. "...Pitiful B-rank strength want to fight them." Such a decision was not just foolhardy it was arrogant and moronic.
Cleary her man after braving the inner regions of the Glacial mountains had gotten full of himself, seeing the world as something beneath his feet or at least something that would be in time....how arrogant a mere mid stage B-rank thinks he can compete with the Church of Light, laughable. It seems she had been too lenient during their sparring sessions.
Maya’s gaze and her sharp words cut Frost deep, he winced as though stabbed by something sharp, his upper lip twitched and all colour drained from his face.
"You don’t have to put it like tha...." He knew he was weak, but he didn’t need her to tell him and in such a devasting way.
"Like what, how you’re weak, pathetic, a dime a dozen, a piddling fledgling, ignorant of true power, arrogant mid-tier trash!" Maya leaned into a sleugh of insults as if she’d prepared for this situation beforehand, doing her absolute best to destroy his confidence and self esteem or at least bring him down from his high horse so he wouldn’t recklessly and arrogantly challenge those beyond his means ever again.
Strangely because of this her bloodlust started to dissipate, her anger towards Frost and his foolish arrogance outweighing her killing intent towards the Church of Light.
Daki was thus given a chance to breath and get a front row seat to Frost getting demeaned to the point his stature appeared to shrink.
".....So mean." He always knew Maya had a vicious side to her, but he assumed it was limited to more physical applications but clearly her tongue was no less hard hitting than her hammers.
"Mean? Oh I’ve barely gotten started Frost. If it stops you from recklessly challenging those far beyond your abilities then I’ll more than happily crush every ounce of pride in that pretty little body of yours." As if lending weight to such a claim Maya started cracking her knuckles, her face partially transforming into that of a large wolf with particularly sharp teeth.
If a blow to his confidence would keep him away from the Church of Light then she might as well start swinging now.
