Chapter 884: Chaos at Wayne Tower (Part Two)

Meanwhile, on the top floor of Wayne Tower.

Inside a private office that covers several hundred square meters.

Outside the floor-to-ceiling windows is the chaotic night view of Gotham City.

Soothing classical music was playing in the office.

Bruce Wayne, the de facto ruler of Gotham City and mayor, was reclining on a leather sofa. He swirled a glass of red wine in his hand, a confident smile on his face.

Sitting opposite him was a burly, bald black man.

This person was Edelman.

The two sipped their red wine and discussed the current situation in the Free Federation.

"The Free Federation is now in complete chaos."

Bruce Wayne took a sip of red wine: "With the death of that high and mighty old Holy Lord, the entire Federation is like it has lost its backbone. Look at those fools fighting tooth and nail for territory, it's laughable."

Edelman leaned back on the sofa and sneered, "The more chaotic it is, the better. Without chaos, how will we have a chance to rise to power?"

"That's right!"

Wayne laughed loudly: "Our cooperation is like adding wings to a tiger! While the Holy Knights and those hypocrites of the Holy See are fighting each other and too busy to take care of themselves, we can use Gotham City as our main base and expand outwards at a crazy pace."

He raised his glass: "Before long, the future of this Free Federation will belong to the two of us!"

However, Wayne frowned slightly at this point.

"However, we cannot let our guard down."

Wayne put down his glass, his tone becoming more serious: "Cardinal Andrew of the Vatican and James of the Knights, those two old guys are both deeply entrenched power holders, wielding elite forces with profound foundations. They are not easy to deal with."

Upon hearing those two names, Edelman looked disdainful.

He snorted coldly, tapping his fingers on the table: "Them? They're just two old guys who're practically half-buried."

Edelman's eyes gleamed with arrogance: "We are all SS-level professionals. If things really come to a head, in a one-on-one situation, they might not be a match for me, Edelman!"

"Hahaha! Good! I'm relieved to hear that!"

Upon hearing this, Wayne smiled, stood up, and raised his wine glass in a distant toast to Edelman.

"Mr. Edelman, then I congratulate you in advance!"

Wayne's tone was filled with anticipation: "I look forward to the day you ascend to the Holy City and wield the highest power in the Federation!"

Edelman smiled and raised his glass to clink with Wayne's.

"To our bright future."

"bite--"

The sound of clashing glass echoed in the office.

Just as the two were full of confidence.

"Woo-! Woo-! Woo-!"

An alarm suddenly sounded from the ground floor of the building, interrupting the atmosphere inside.

The flashing red warning lights in the corridor were particularly glaring.

Edelman paused slightly in the hand holding the wine glass.

He glanced at the flashing red light outside the door, then smiled and teased Bruce Wayne, "Looks like Mayor Wayne, you seem to be in some trouble."

He put down his wine glass and twisted his neck.

"What? Do you want me to go down and take care of it for you?" Edelman asked casually.

Bruce Wayne waved his hand dismissively.

He sat back down on the sofa, still composed.

"It happens often."

Wayne picked up his glass, took a sip, and chuckled, "You know, ever since I became the mayor of Gotham, countless people have tried to kill me every day. Assassins, bounty hunters, and assassins from rival gangs—I'm used to it all."

He smiled at Edelman: "Don't worry, the people I have under me are no pushovers. They'll handle it."

Wayne raised his wrist and looked at his mechanical watch.

"It should only take about five minutes."

He lowered his hand and raised his glass to Edelman: "I hope these blind rats won't affect your mood, Edelman."

Edelman shrugged indifferently.

"Just don't disturb me while I'm drinking."

He smiled, picked up his glass, and continued drinking.

However, a minute passed.

Two minutes passed.

Three minutes have passed.

The alarm continued to sound for a long time, instead growing louder, and the office floor could be faintly felt vibrating from below.

Bruce Wayne's composure began to fade.

His expression gradually turned grim.

He could tell from the alarm system that it was at the highest level.

"Woo-! Woo-! Woo-!"

The piercing alarm echoed through the top-floor offices of Wayne Tower.

The night view of Gotham City outside the floor-to-ceiling windows was still chaotic, and the soothing classical music that was originally playing in the office was completely drowned out by the noise.

Time passed by, second by second.

Four minutes.

Five minutes.

Six minutes.

Bruce Wayne's composure gradually vanished, and his facial muscles twitched slightly.

He stared at the mechanical watch on his wrist.

It's been too long.

The guards below were all high-level professionals he had poached from mercenary groups and the black market at great expense. There were more than twenty elites above level 60, and the captain of the guard was a level 68 berserker, wielding a top-grade magic-powered broadsword.

This level of security force could hold off even a hundred-man squad of the Holy Knights for half an hour.

But now, the commotion below has not subsided; in fact, the vibrations have become even more intense.

Even the office floor, which was covered with a shock-absorbing magic array, was trembling slightly.

"Bang!"

Unable to contain his frustration, Bruce Wayne slammed his wine glass onto the coffee table. The spilled wine stained the carpet red.

"These useless bastards!"

Wayne cursed, his face turning ashen. His subordinates' pathetic performance in front of Edelman, an SS-rank powerhouse, was extremely embarrassing for him.

Sitting across from Wayne, Edelman looked at him with a mocking smile.

He held the wine glass steadily, listening to the dull rumble coming from below.

As an SS-level powerhouse, he could sense extremely strong energy fluctuations erupting in the lobby on the first floor. That was definitely not something that Wayne's level 60-something subordinates could emit.

However, Edelman didn't care.

In the Free Federation, apart from those few old monsters, he didn't think anyone could threaten him.

Edelman downed his wine in one gulp, then stood up with a smile.

"It seems, Mayor Wayne, that your men are not capable of dealing with those enemies."

Edelman's imposing figure exuded an aura of intimidation as he looked down at Wayne.

"Let me go down myself and solve these problems for you."

He twisted his neck, and his bones cracked.

"Consider it a small gift in advance for our upcoming cooperation."

Bruce Wayne looked embarrassed upon hearing this.

He had previously confidently claimed he could resolve the situation in five minutes, but now he had to trouble his allies. However, he knew in his heart that the intruders were not to be underestimated, given that they had driven the elite guards to this point.

Bruce Wayne stood up and forced a smile.

"Then I'll have to trouble you, Mr. Edelman."

Wayne straightened his suit and reminded him, "However, Mr. Edelman, please be a little more careful."

"Judging from the defenses on the first floor of the building, the other party must be very strong to have been able to cause such a commotion in such a short time. Perhaps they are top assassins sent by the Holy See or the Holy Knights."

"Very strong?"

Upon hearing this, Edelman smiled smugly and patted Wayne on the shoulder. The aura of an SS-rank expert was released, causing the air to hum slightly.

"Don't worry, Mayor Wayne."

Edelman's eyes gleamed arrogantly, "In the entire Free Federation, apart from those few old bones hiding in the Holy City who dare not come out, there are very few people who can rival me."

"No matter what kind of monsters and demons come down, they will all turn into a pile of mud in front of my power."
