Edge of the Apocalypse
Chapter 231 - 215: Reporting
Chapter 231: Chapter 215: Reporting
Things don’t always go as planned.
Gao Yan and his group weren’t interested in Yu Dong’s Combat Team Two. They just wanted to maintain their independence, to be a small squad of Rangers.
After a moment of thought, Yu Dong smiled freely.
"Why not?"
As long as they were willing to fight zombies together, they were friends. Yu Dong wouldn’t force them away; he could find common ground while respecting their differences.
Hearing Yu Dong’s words, Gao Yan and his group were relieved, and the atmosphere became much more pleasant.
Liangzi chattered on about the strange and interesting things they had seen on their journey. When he mentioned the scale of the zombie horde in the city and the potential dangers, Gao Yan even offered some specific advice for exploration...
Yu Dong had a long, pleasant chat with the nine of them.
Construction was difficult on a rainy day, as was killing zombies, so the Combat and Logistics Teams got a rare day off. On top of that, with so many newcomers arriving, the cinema was scheduled to open tonight to show movies for everyone.
But with so many people on the cruise ship now, the cinema couldn’t fit everyone. They had to watch in batches.
There were three showings in one night. It was possible for someone to wait in line all evening and still not get to see a single one.
Meanwhile, a few members of the Combat Team brazenly sat in the best seats and watched all three movies back-to-back, but no one else dared to say anything.
After all, everyone in the Combat Team was formidable...
And their privileges had always been the highest. Everyone was used to it.
Qiao Yunliang had also planned to let his troops watch a movie, but when he saw how long the line of ordinary people was, he decided it wasn’t right to compete with the public for seats and sent his men back.
"When we get the chance, we’ll have Yu Dong arrange a private screening just for us."
The soldiers cast a lingering glance at the flickering lights of the cinema before heading back to their rooms to rest early.
Yu Dong was in his suite at this time and hadn’t gone down.
While everyone was at the movies, Shen Xinyi came to his room to find him...
Today, Shen Xinyi was wearing a yellow knit sweater, a short skirt, black stockings, and high heels. Her exposed skin was so fair it seemed to glow. She wore light makeup, looking tall and radiant. The slight smile on her lips was as sultry as a summer day.
The outfit made Yu Dong’s eyes light up, and he started to feel a little hot himself.
"Xinyi, you’re playing dirty..."
"Like it?"
Shen Xinyi leaned right in, her sweet breath tickling Yu Dong’s chin.
She looked up slightly into his eyes, her moist, red lips as tempting as jewels.
Yu Dong couldn’t resist and kissed her directly.
Shen Xinyi closed her eyes, hooked the door with her high-heeled shoe, and kicked back, swinging it shut.

The high heel fell to the floor, revealing a delicate, pale foot with plump, pink toes that were utterly captivating.
...
"Ah? There are no more seats... We’ve waited through two showings. What a shame."
Liang Mian was disappointed. By the time he and Cao Zihan reached the front of the line, there were no seats left.
Liu Ye’ye, who was ahead of them, looked at the two tickets in her hand and the still-absent Yu Dong. Sighing, she handed the tickets to Liang Mian.
"Liangzi, you guys take them."
"Huh? Really? Aren’t you going to watch?"
"The person I was waiting for didn’t show up."
"Alright... Thanks! If you ever need anything, just call for me, Miss Liu! I’ve got your back!"
Liang Mian waved gratefully to Liu Ye’ye.
"You know her?" Cao Zihan asked.
"She was a homeowner in our old neighborhood. I’ve seen her around... But speaking of which, I feel like there are a lot of people from our neighborhood here, and they all seem to be doing pretty well."
Liang Mian didn’t give it much thought and took Cao Zihan to watch the movie.
Who would have thought they could still enjoy something like this after the apocalypse?
After leaving, Liu Ye’ye went to Yu Dong’s office but didn’t see him.
So she went straight up to the 16th floor, to the Starlight Suite 1601. This was the room Yu Dong, Huang Zhiqiang, Zhao Youcai, and Xia Yao shared.
She knocked on the door.
"Senior, are you in there?"
There was no sound from inside. Liu Ye’ye knocked a few more times, and when no one answered, she left.
’Where did Senior go?’
She wasn’t sure, but it felt like she could never find her senior lately...
Hearing the silence outside, Yu Dong and Shen Xinyi looked at each other.
They both breathed a sigh of relief.
At that moment, Shen Xinyi’s knit sweater was half off her shoulder, and one of her stockings had been pulled down. They had been lost in passion when Liu Ye’ye interrupted them.
"Yu Dong, why does dating you feel like we’re having a secret affair... Should we just tell Ye Ye?" Shen Xinyi said, biting her lip.
"Uh... Let’s wait. Just wait a little longer."
Yu Dong didn’t know what he was waiting for, but he just felt he should wait...
Shen Xinyi and Liu Ye’ye had a very good relationship, but when it came to winning over Yu Dong, she hadn’t yielded to her "little sister." She had made the first move.
Now, she also felt a little guilty toward her best friend.
The two of them had been about to get down to business when they were interrupted. Thinking about their complicated relationship, they didn’t continue.
After tidying up a bit, Shen Xinyi secretly slipped away. She took a stroll on the lower decks before returning to her own room.
...
「Day 68 of the apocalypse. The rain ended, and the air turned cold.」
Gusts of sea wind brought a bone-chilling cold. Even inside the cruise ship, everyone had bundled up in thick clothes.
"Captain Chen, we’ll need to turn on the heat today..."
"Alright, I’ll have the engine room crew fire up the boiler and start burning heavy oil for heating."
"Can you estimate how many tons of oil we’ll burn per day for our current population and rooms?"
"How many people do we have now? I saw a lot more arrived yesterday."
After the rain ended, Lin Mo happened to have tallied the numbers last night. The cruise ship’s population had increased by 248 people, the largest single-day increase yet.
It was likely because of Wang Dingbei’s "last chance" announcement and the cold weather, which had forced many people to risk the journey to the cruise ship base.
"Including the 379 military personnel, we currently have a total of 1,580 people on the cruise ship."
"That many... No wonder we’ve been going through supplies so quickly. If we only heat the key areas and rooms, I estimate we’ll burn one or two tons of heavy oil per day."
Lin Mo did a quick calculation. The B Port oil depot’s largest reserve was heavy oil, with 1,700 tons. For now, that was enough for heating.
"Good, let’s start the heating then."
"But once the boiler is on, it’ll be quite noisy. It might attract zombies from the sea."
"Then we’ll just kill them. We have to kill them sooner or later anyway."
If they wanted to restore the sea lanes in the future, they had to clear out the bloated zombies in the water. It was better to use A Port’s specially upgraded defenses to lure them in and eliminate them now.
The cruise ship’s population surpassed 1,500, and the heating was officially turned on.
Yu Dong and the others continued with construction today.
Members of the Combat Team and the military spread out nearby to clear zombies and gather supplies.
There was a small dried seafood market here, the kind that specifically ripped off out-of-town tourists.
Inside were large quantities of shelf-stable dried seafood.
Shredded squid, cod fillets, dried scallops, dried small fish, cuttlefish slices... Many were still in their intact packaging, perfectly storable for over a year.
This stuff was quite expensive before the apocalypse, but it was also delicious and nutritious.
A single glance revealed nothing but high-quality protein.
In an apocalypse lacking meat, eggs, and dairy, this was an exceptionally valuable food resource, much better than the rice, flour, and oil that could be found everywhere.
These kinds of supplies could also be sold for a good amount of points on the cruise ship.
The blond punk Sun Yu and his two cronies were moving fast and were the first to arrive. After clearing out a few zombies, they immediately grabbed some of the better-quality packaged goods and stuffed them into their combat suits.
Just then, the blond punk heard a noise, spun around, and aimed his crossbow behind him.
A young soldier, about the same age as Yan Yikai, was watching them.
"You scared me... I thought a zombie had snuck up on us."
Sun Yu lowered his crossbow. When he saw the young soldier staring at his clothes, he instantly understood.
He grabbed a bag, casually filled it with a few packages, and tossed it to the young soldier.
"Didn’t pack too much for you, or you won’t be able to hide it. Take it to eat yourself or trade for points later. Don’t trade it in yourself; I have someone who does it for me. I’ll introduce you later."
Sun Yu was very familiar with this routine. By pocketing some good stuff every day, he could sell it for a lot of extra points, which was why he was usually so generous.
And he didn’t mind sharing with others.
The young soldier took the bag of supplies, looked at Sun Yu, then stuffed it in his pocket and scurried away.
"Hey! Not even a ’thanks, bro’?"
"You smoke? I’ll give you a pack next time!"
"Stop corrupting the kid, hahaha~"
Sun Yu and his buddies watched the shy young soldier, finding the whole thing amusing.
They thought these soldiers were pretty interesting. They were good people, very disciplined, and didn’t try to steal their spotlight or privileges.
They were just here to help kill zombies. Where else could you find such good people?
Since these people arrived, the average workload for their Combat Team had dropped significantly.
Only after each of them had pocketed a little did they start filling the large gunny sacks they’d brought. They were well aware that the majority was for the community.
As they were packing things up, another group of armed soldiers came in from outside.
The young soldier pulled Qiao Yunliang’s aide, Advisor Li, over and pointed at Sun Yu and his two cronies.
"Advisor Li, it’s those three! They were hoarding supplies, and when I found out, they tried to bribe me!"
Sun Yu: "???"
