Chapter 254: Chapter 237: Experiment Failed

"FUCK! FUCK! FUCK! FUCK! FUCK!!!"

"They’ve taken over our home! Everyone, with me! We’re going to save Dongzi!"

"They want to purge us? We’ll fight them to the death!"

"When I get back, I’ll kill Qiao first, then Yang Ze, and Wang Dingbei too! I’ll fucking kill them all! Kill every last one of those ungrateful traitors!"

Zhao Youcai immediately received a satellite call from his informant on the cruise ship. There was trouble. Qiao had taken his men and surrounded Yu Dong and the half of the combat team that had stayed behind.

The situation on the ship was already critical. Yu Dong had a gun to his head!

He was about to be executed!

Zhao Youcai was frantic!

"Sigh..." Yu Chengfei had excellent hearing and overheard most of what was said from his spot next to Zhao Youcai. "I always knew this day would come. I just didn’t expect it so soon. I haven’t had my fill of killing yet."

Yu Chengfei had practiced martial arts his entire life but had never been on a battlefield. It was his life’s regret. When the apocalypse came, he finally got to make up for it. His skills at last had a purpose.

As long as he could still wield his great spear, he would protect his people and their bloodline, and train a group of reliable disciples to carry on his teachings... Then his life would be complete.

But the world wasn’t just about killing zombies. The people in charge had plenty of their own ideas...

Based on his many years of experience, with Yu Dong in trouble, he himself—as the combat team’s instructor and deputy leader—couldn’t escape being implicated. He would most likely be imprisoned along with Zhao Youcai.

When a purge happens, it doesn’t bend to an individual’s will. It wasn’t as if he could just say he didn’t care about the politics and only wanted to kill zombies, and they’d let him go. The world didn’t work like that.

If they didn’t get rid of him, and he, the instructor, put out a call to arms, wouldn’t the remaining men rally to him again?

So, this would most likely be his last day of killing zombies. Uncle Yu wiped the blood from the tip of his spear, his face full of regret.

"Youcai, I haven’t tried to talk you out of anything these past few months... but today, I must. Don’t fight back. I see you all as my own disciples... I don’t want to see you come to a bad end. You should run. Go somewhere no one can find you and don’t come back. I’ll take the others back to the cruise ship... We’ll submit to their ’re-education’ so that everyone can be spared."

Yu Chengfei saw the situation clearly. With Yu Dong’s downfall, Zhao Youcai couldn’t escape the purge. Given his reputation in the army and his extremist personality, he’d be imprisoned for life, if not executed. The military would never let a threat like him wander free.

In Yu Chengfei’s eyes... Youcai wasn’t a bad person. He was just an insecure kid who needed to arm himself with power and resources to appear strong.

Hearing this, the hot-headed Zhao Youcai cooled down slightly, biting his lower lip.

"Uncle Yu... you’re a good man, and I respect you, but I can’t run! If I leave, what happens to Dongzi? The army is going to put him on trial! If I don’t save him, who will???"

The thought of Yu Dong being taken down by a group of short-sighted people using such underhanded tactics, or even...

An extreme rage and anguish welled up inside Zhao Youcai.

That was his brother... the brother he had wanted to save since his very first rebirth!!!

"We’ll sneak over tonight, take out the guards, and rescue Brother Dong! We’ll grab some supplies, and if we have to, we’ll find a village and start over!"

Yan Yikai proposed the best plan he could come up with.

Huang Zhiqiang’s eyes lit up. "That’s a great idea! We’ll go to a village! If we can’t beat ’em, we can at least avoid ’em, right? We’re done playing their game! The vaccine, saving the world... let whoever wants to do it, do it. We brothers will just find a village and live our own lives. Isn’t Qiao Yunliang such a big shot? Let him play by himself!"

"But your plan depends on us being able to get inside and rescue Brother Dong, right? What if we get mowed down the second we reach the main gate? The army has thermal imaging helmets. They can see everything clearly on night duty."

Zhao Wenjie was more level-headed. He didn’t think Yan Yikai and Huang Zhiqiang’s proposal was very feasible.

Half of the combat team and half of the logistics team were present, all gathered together, trying to figure out how to rescue Yu Dong.

No one thought they should abandon Yu Dong.

"What if our logistics team goes and negotiates with the army? They’ll need logistics to manage the cruise ship and their excursions, right? We could work for the army in exchange for letting our boss step down safely. Think it’ll work?"

"I say we feign surrender. Once things quiet down, we sneak the boss out! The army has to go out and kill zombies too, right? Can they really guard against so many of us? I’ve got a few buddies on the cruise ship, too."

"Doesn’t Teacher Zhou have explosives? I’ll strap them to myself and go blow up their top brass! If they don’t release the boss, I’ll take them with me!"

Everyone chimed in with ideas, but their success all depended on the army’s cooperation...

The plans weren’t very practical.

After calming down, Zhao Youcai didn’t rush back either. They discussed for half a day but still had no confidence they could rescue Yu Dong safely.

Confronting the army was beyond the limits of their combat capabilities.

Zhao Youcai scanned his surroundings and saw the three ’scumbags’ they had just captured today. A sharp glint flashed in his eyes.

"Let’s go. We’re heading to the research institute!"

Everyone: "?"

’Is he still thinking about scientific research at a time like this?’

...

「Yanhai City Medical Research Institute」

Meng Dongqing and her three assistants were looking at the three new inactivated vaccines they had produced.

The tests on the lab mice were successful again.

The toxicity was further reduced, but it still successfully increased the mice’s metabolism, promoted rapid muscle growth, and triggered antibody production.

In front of them were three stasis pods. Inside were the three new people who had just been delivered. Yu Dong had said they were three rapists.
