Edge of the Apocalypse
Chapter 281 - 248: [Reincarnator’s Manual (Upper)]
Chapter 281: Chapter 248: [Reincarnator’s Manual (Upper)]
Ji Luo’s words struck a deep chord in Yu Dong’s heart.
It was as if the Ji Luo from his past life was standing right in front of him, having a conversation that transcended time and space with the Ji Luo on the other end of the phone.
Back when the two failed dictators stood on that deck... Ji Luo had seen his predicament.
The things he was doing would give others a handle to use against him.
Whether they were people with genuine ideals or just opportunists looking to stir up trouble, they could all use this perfect chance to attack him.
You gain allies when you’re on the right side and lose them when you’re not. As long as you were building a team, you had to consider public opinion.
The moment the masses no longer trusted him, his downfall would be imminent.
Even in the apocalypse, winning over the people was still the most important job.
If Yu Dong wanted Professor Meng to continue the research from his past life... he would inevitably find himself in the same awkward situation again in the future.
His original plan had been to use absolute control to push this forward in secret, crushing any opposition that arose.
But Ji Luo had offered him another path... one where he would shoulder the burden for Yu Dong.
That half-truth was the solution Ji Luo had taught him to break the deadlock.
If Ji Luo took the heat for this, then all Yu Dong had to do was protect Ji Luo. It would give him an extra layer of leeway, making everything much easier to handle.
In that moment, all the logic clicked into place.
"Lawyer Ji, thank you. I... I really do need your help. We have something big to do together."
"Excellent. That means our message was successfully transmitted. If you’re free now, we can talk on the phone to sync up. I can think it over while I’m on the road."
Yu Dong glanced at his phone. Qiao Yunliang was calling him frantically.
"Let’s do it tomorrow. I still have a few more calls to make right now. At tomorrow’s meeting, there will be several other collaborators like you. We can talk in detail when we meet."
"Alright. More people is a good thing."
’The last thing Ji Luo wanted was for the Reincarnator to drag him off to some island to hide with a stash of food and weapons... What’s the point of piddling around with small-time stuff like that?’
’The person his future self decided to help with all his might couldn’t possibly be such a coward.’
He answered Qiao Yunliang’s call, and Qiao Yunliang’s voice, noticeably louder than before, boomed from the other end.
"Yu Dong, where are you? I’ll have my aide come pick you up. This matter... we need to meet and talk about it properly. I need to know more. If this is real... please, trust us. Trust the country. We will protect you."
Just a moment ago, Qiao Yunliang had his IT department come over. They hadn’t found any suspicious devices in his office, so it was highly unlikely he was being monitored.
For Yu Dong to know what he had just done and about his private health condition, it meant either a world-class spy team was involved, or the possibility of a Reincarnator was real.
The correct lottery numbers, in particular, had drastically increased the likelihood of him being a Reincarnator.
If he could meet Yu Dong and run a thorough background check... Qiao Yunliang felt that perhaps he could take a leap of faith.
"Commander Qiao, I have a lot to take care of tonight. If you’re that eager to see me, come to the milk tea shop behind Yanhai University. I’ll wait for you there."
Qiao Yunliang mulled it over for a moment, then exchanged a look with the advisor beside him. The advisor gestured for him to agree.
"Alright. I’m on my way now. See you in an hour."
After hanging up, Qiao Yunliang said to his advisor, "Advisor Shao, tell the scouts to call off the search. Just go straight to the milk tea shop behind campus. He’s there."
"Understood. Since he chose to meet on campus, it’s very likely he’s the Yu Dong we found in our records... The probability just went up again. How about we take a squad with us?"
"Yes. You arrange it."
Advisor Shao was Qiao Yunliang’s best strategist. In many situations, Qiao Yunliang’s decisions came from Advisor Shao; it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to call him his external brain.
If the apocalypse truly was coming, Qiao Yunliang would face it and figure out a way through with his best partner.
Yu Dong then called Song Jinchuan and a few others. The Triple Key worked every time.
’This Triple Key is so convenient... It’s hard to imagine anyone failing the verification.’
Just as he thought that, Yu Dong saw Huang shaking his head, blinking, and opening his mouth.
’Alright, so there are some god-tier oddballs out there.’
Of course, the Triple Key wasn’t perfect. It had one major bug... but Yu Dong wouldn’t mention it. He didn’t want anyone to notice this flaw.
’Only a clever person would spot it... ordinary people can just go raise pigs.’
After activating the key personnel for this life before the lottery results were announced, Yu Dong began to formally lay out his next moves.
"Huang, you can shake your head later. I have a mission for you right now. Go back to the dorm immediately and grab the laptops for me, you, and Xufeng. Then find a way to get a printer. We’re setting up our office and receiving guests here tonight."
"Huh? But the milk tea shop closes at 10."
Xufeng stood up. "You go get them. I’ll take care of the shop."
He walked straight to the counter and said, "Tell your boss we’re booking the place for the night, so you can close early. Here’s 2,000 yuan. That’s more than enough to cover a day’s revenue. Just make us a few more cups of tea and coffee, and make whatever you want for yourselves. After that, you can all head home. We’re planning to play cards all night."
Straightforward. The superpower of cash solves everything.
Some rules seem solid, but in reality, they’re easily broken.
And the son of a businessman is an expert at breaking them.
Yu Dong didn’t even have to look at Xufeng; he knew he’d get it done. He immediately gave Zhao Youcai his orders.
"Youcai, go straight to the North River District and get the eight million from Lin Zhixue’s villa. If you get back late, the guard at the gate..."
"A carton of cigarettes will take care of it. Not a problem."
"Good. Leave immediately."
After Xufeng came back from paying, Yu Dong looked at him and laid out the core mission for the night.
"Xufeng, we’re going to create a handbook called the *Reincarnator’s Handbook*. It will contain everything I saw and heard during my 138 days of survival in the apocalypse in my past life. In a bit, Huang and I will quickly type out the text. My head is full of information, so it might be a bit messy—some of it is chronological, some of it is event-based. I need you to organize and compile it into a logically clear and chronologically precise *Reincarnator’s Handbook*. It should be written so that anyone can read it once and understand all the major events of the first 138 days of the apocalypse, right down to the specific details."
Hearing this, Xufeng immediately frowned. "Dongzi, this handbook you want to compile... it’s your biggest secret. It’s what sets you apart from everyone else. It’s the unique advantage of a Reincarnator. If you write it all down... won’t everyone know everything you know? You can’t share this foresight, not even with your best friends."
Xufeng’s mind worked fast!
He had to warn Yu Dong that this was the wrong move.
’This goes against the interests of a Reincarnator!’
Yu Dong himself had said before that he was just a Reincarnator; he didn’t have any supernatural powers, special talents, or levels. He had only been able to return to one week before the apocalypse.
Even the superior muscle and explosive power he had built up in his past life had been reset to zero.
If he wrote all his secrets in a handbook for others to see... if everyone knew what was going to happen in the future, what use would they have for him, the Reincarnator?
Yu Dong looked at Xufeng, a smile playing on his lips.
’That’s a true friend for you,’ he thought. ’Only thinking of my best interests.’
"You’re still smiling! Dongzi! I have to throw some cold water on you. Don’t put too much faith in any one person or profession. Most of the time, people are just constrained by the system... Once the apocalypse hits and the old order collapses, people can do anything. If you lose your advantage of foresight... will Commander Qiao still need you? What if he decides to capture you and send you off for research?"
Yu Dong’s smile widened.
"You’re right, Xufeng. That’s why for the finishing touch, we’re going to add one little thing to the title. That will change everything."
"Huh? What is it?"
Yu Dong wrote it on a piece of paper: *Reincarnator’s Handbook (Part 1)*. The moment Xufeng saw it... he instantly understood.
"You mean... these 138 days are only part of the time you survived? That you actually lived much longer, and only you know what’s in the second part, right? That changes everything! If the first part can be verified piece by piece, then after the apocalypse begins, they’ll definitely want to get the information in the second part to know what changes the future holds!"
Yu Dong smiled without saying a word.
’No one knew how many days he had actually survived in his past life...’
’If he said there was a Part 2, then there was a Part 2.’
’Because no one else could prove him wrong.’
When Huang Zhiqiang returned with the laptops and printer, the three of them each took a computer and set up a local network.
"Huang, I’ll dictate, you use voice-to-text, and then you proofread it."
"September 28th, 7:00 PM. The zombie virus breaks out globally. Ninety percent of the population is directly infected. Currently, there is no way to predict or stop it..."
"The strength and speed of the zombies are greater than before they turned..."
"The first winter after the apocalypse will be a deep freeze. In December, temperatures will drop to minus thirty degrees Celsius. The harbor will freeze over, and parts of the coastal sea will be covered in ice..."
"In Yanhai City, mutated zombies clearly began to appear after the heavy rain on the tenth day of the apocalypse..."
"..."
There was a massive amount of information about the post-apocalyptic world. Yu Dong recited it as logically as possible, using the voice transcription function to send it to Huang’s computer. Huang would then correct and calibrate the text before sending it to Xufeng.
Xufeng took these pieces of information, organized them, sorted out the timeline and logical flow, and began compiling them into a coherent and clear handbook.
Yu Dong needed to get this handbook finished tonight, printed and ready to bring to the big meeting tomorrow.
The three of them worked together for a while before Qiao Yunliang arrived with his men.
The university had likely received a heads-up, as no one came to disturb them.
At this moment, Qiao Yunliang had a healthy complexion and a commanding presence, looking every bit the powerful figure he was.
With him was a middle-aged man Yu Dong had never seen before, who gave him a slight smile that seemed very approachable.
Qiao Yunliang extended his hand. "Student Yu Dong, we finally meet. This is Advisor Shao, a man I trust completely. Let’s talk, shall we? About this apocalypse you mentioned."
On the way over, Qiao Yunliang’s men had already pulled Yu Dong’s file. He was a student with a perfectly clean record; his entire life, from the orphanage to the present day, was traceable.
Not only was his own record spotless, but his family background was so clean it was practically non-existent.
This made him even more credible.
Yu Dong shook his hand and gestured for him to sit.
"Commander Qiao, listen carefully. The information you want is all right here..."
Seeing Qiao Yunliang arrive, Xufeng first printed out two copies of the material he had already organized and handed them to Qiao Yunliang and Advisor Shao.
"Commander Qiao, this is the information Dongzi has just dictated about the apocalypse. You two can take a look at it."
And so it went: Yu Dong continued to dictate while his two friends organized, and Qiao Yunliang and Advisor Shao listened from the side, discussing things from time to time and occasionally asking Yu Dong a question or two.
Their Q&A was also recorded by Huang Zhiqiang.
Zhao Youcai didn’t come back after getting the money; Yu Dong had assigned him to other tasks.
By the end of the night, Qiao Yunliang had the answers he was looking for and a freshly compiled copy of the *Reincarnator’s Handbook (Part 1)*.
At 4:00 AM, as Qiao Yunliang was taking the handbook and preparing to leave, Yu Dong spoke up.
"Commander Qiao, you’ve received information from me. Now, I need to borrow someone from you."
