Edge of the Apocalypse
Chapter 283 - 249: [Defining the Reincarnator]
Chapter 283: Chapter 249: [Defining the Reincarnator]
Ji Luo, dictator of the research institute base; Song Jinchuan, manager of the villa-based clan; the brothers Fan Zhenyu and Fan Zhenhuang, the newly-minted ’Gods of War’ of their residential community; and Zhang Yihuai of the Olympic Sports Center Base.
Aside from the cruise ship base, these were the leaders of the four largest bases.
Each of them was capable of managing a base of several hundred people and maintaining stability. Furthermore, they were all sharp, good people, and they had gotten along reasonably well with Yu Dong’s cruise ship base in his past life.
These were leaders who had been proven by history. Compared to Lin Zhixue’s eagerly-formed, all-female team, these five individuals were the ones Yu Dong deemed trustworthy.
This trust wasn’t based on personal relationships, but on grand strategy.
In truth, Yu Dong didn’t know the brothers Fan Zhenyu and Fan Zhenhuang, or Zhang Yihuai, very well. He had only interacted with them after everyone gathered on the cruise ship later on, and they had all turned out to be decent people.
Yu Dong had also obtained their startup keys.
At that moment, Yu Dong stood in the doorway. Sunlight streamed in from behind, bathing him in a soft radiance.
Yu Dong already had an excellent physique. Dressed in a casual suit, with his hair and appearance meticulously put together, he exuded an extraordinary air.
Everyone in the room knew from the first moment they saw him... this was no ordinary man.
A smile played on Ji Luo’s lips. ’He looks like someone I can trust.’
The others instinctively rose to their feet.
Zhang Yihuai grew a little nervous. At this point in time, he was just an ordinary office worker at the Olympic Sports Center, responsible for organizing sporting events and managing school athletic meets.
Yu Dong nodded at them.
"Please, sit. The men behind me are my brothers, and our future partners."
Only then did Xufeng, Huang Zhiqiang, and Zhao Youcai walk in, taking seats behind Yu Dong.
The three of them said nothing, simply sitting silently behind him to project an imposing presence. This was something Xufeng had specifically instructed.
Silence carried more weight than words.
Once everyone was seated, Song Jinchuan spoke first. "Mr. Yu, may I have my nephew join us? He’s my best assistant and completely trustworthy. I’m getting on in years... I need his help with many things."
"Have him come up."
After the apocalypse began, Song had entrusted many matters to his nephew. Yu Dong remembered him as a man of few words.
After Song’s nephew came up, he sat silently beside his uncle, waiting for Yu Dong to speak.
Yu Dong gestured, and Zhao Youcai and Huang Zhiqiang stepped out, closing the door behind them to stand guard outside.
Only he and Xufeng were left in the room.
"I told you all on the phone last night that I’m a Reincarnator. You’ve probably just compared notes. Each of your keys is different, but the general process I described was more or less the same."
Yu Dong nodded at the group.
"Right now, if there’s anyone who still doesn’t believe I’m a Reincarnator, please raise your hand."
The six of them exchanged glances. No one raised a hand.
They had all spent last night thinking about the key. After considering it from every angle, they had to admit that ’Reincarnator’ was the only possible explanation.
Even if some sliver of doubt remained, trust was now the dominant feeling.
"Good. Xufeng, hand out the booklets. They contain my accounts of the first half of the apocalypse from my past life."
Xufeng handed each person a booklet with their name on it.
Zhang Yihuai immediately noticed this detail.
"So... each of our booklets is different?"
"That’s right. I’ll explain why later."
As they received the booklets and began to flip through them, they were all utterly astonished.
They contained detailed records of the apocalypse and the 138 days that followed—from the initial outbreak, to the status of the settlements each of them would come to lead, and finally, to the merger of all settlements to fight against a massive zombie horde...
The booklets also included extensive information on official broadcasts, scientific theories, and various practical observations and speculations. They were incredibly comprehensive.
"All of you here are intelligent people. The fact that you were able to manage settlements of hundreds after the apocalypse proves your capabilities. After seeing these booklets, you should understand that now is the optimal time for us to prepare for what’s to come. We have six and a half days to act. Every minute, every second from this point on is precious."
Fan Zhenyu, the ’God of War’ from the previous life, asked, "I have a question. What if we prepare for everything, and the apocalypse never comes?"
"It will come," Yu Dong stated firmly. "I’ve been through it three times."
Seeing Fan Zhenyu was about to say more, Ji Luo tapped the table. "Time is short. Let’s not waste it debating the possibility of the apocalypse. The future can’t be verified in an instant. We just have to act based on the highest probability. And as things stand... Yu Dong being a Reincarnator and the apocalypse arriving is the most likely outcome."
At Ji Luo’s words, the others nodded in agreement, and Fan Zhenyu didn’t press the issue.
"Lawyer Ji is right. This is no time for infighting. Let’s prepare for the apocalypse together and ensure a better future this time around."
Zhang Yihuai listened as he read, gradually grasping the situation.
"So... you want us to help you with your preparations before the apocalypse, and then face it together. Is that right?"
Song Jinchuan added, "You must have a plan, right? Why don’t you lay it out for us to review together? What’s our next move?"
Fan Zhenyu chimed in, "Right. We need to see a detailed plan before we can decide whether to work with you. If... if your plan isn’t any good, I’ll refuse, even if you are a Reincarnator."
’He instinctively disliked the way this Yu Dong acted like they were all his underlings right from the start... It really rubbed him the wrong way.’
