Edge of the Apocalypse
Chapter 305 - 258: Stomach Trouble
Chapter 305: Chapter 258: Stomach Trouble
Yu Dong never would have expected it. An international fugitive—a criminal who’d be shot on sight if spotted on the mainland—was actually like this in person. He completely failed to match the image of a hardened killer in Yu Dong’s mind.
No wonder the woman running the barbecue stall outside wasn’t the least bit suspicious. Who would ever look at the man before them, Zou Long, and think ’international fugitive’?
Zou Long gave Yu Dong a quick look-over, showing no desire to chat. He just opened a cold beer for himself.
GLUG GLUG GLUG... He chugged half the bottle before his eyes seemed to brighten a little.
Next, he fished a room-temperature bottle out of another case, opened it, and handed it to Yin Shuangyang.
"Boss."
Yin Shuangyang took it, then nodded toward Yu Dong.
"Zou, this is Yu Dong. From now on, he’s one of us—a brother. If he ever needs anything, you treat him the same way you treat me."
Zou Long studied Yu Dong’s face for a moment before nodding. "You want a cold one or room temperature?"
"Cold."
Zou Long opened a beer for Yu Dong. Then, the three of them began to drink and eat their barbecue.
"How are things on the island lately?"
"Mosquitoes are bad. Haven’t been sleeping well."
"Didn’t I send you a batch of frogs? The experts said those things eat mosquitoes and can improve the ecosystem..."
"The seabirds got ’em all."
"Damn... How’s that big ship of yours? Is the hull holding up? I heard the barnacles have been getting out of control lately..."
"It’s fine. We’re idle anyway, so we spend all day scraping them. We can’t even keep up..."
After hearing this, Yin Shuangyang was silent for a few seconds, then raised his beer bottle and clinked it with Zou Long’s.
"Tomorrow... Tomorrow, all the boys are coming ashore. No more hiding. This time, thanks to Brother Yu, we found out about the apocalypse ahead of time. Otherwise, trying to get here later would’ve been too dangerous. In the last life, you died at sea."
POP.
Zou Long opened a new beer and clinked it against Yu Dong’s.
"You got me back on land, and the Boss has accepted you. From now on, you’re a brother to me, Zou Long. As long as I’m alive, I’ll have your back. To you."
Then he drained the bottle.
Yu Dong watched the two of them chat like old friends as Zou Long pledged his loyalty. A strange feeling churned in his gut, leaving him somewhat agitated.
He raised his bottle. "I’ll finish mine, too."
After a few more beers, the three of them loosened up and began to chat casually.
"Zou, how many guns did you get for us this time? How many bullets?"
Zou Long gave a slight grimace.
"Boss, you didn’t give me enough time. My men could only grab whatever was in stock in Southeast Asia. They sailed for four days and nights straight just to make it here tonight. There was no time to pick and choose, and no time for them to prep a proper shipment. I bought directly from General Jia Pu. We just loaded up whatever he had in his warehouse."
"It’s mostly AR-15 series rifles and cloned AK-47s, a little over 1,000 in total. There are also 20 PKM-series light machine guns, around 100 RPGs, five large crates of grenades, and a bunch of other assorted replica firearms. They didn’t do a full count, so we’ll have to figure it out when we’re sorting through it all. We might even find a few anti-materiel sniper rifles in the mix."
"As for ammunition, I took a quick look. We’ve got a million rounds of 5.56mm and another million rounds of 7.62mm. Also 1,000 RPG rockets, 20,000 grenades, and a small quantity of assorted ammo for the other replica guns. We’ll know the exact details once we unpack everything."
After hearing all that, Yu Dong’s eyes went wide.
’H-how many bullets???’
’Did he say ’million’?’
’In such a short amount of time, they managed to get a whole shipload of serious hardware!’
This was way more than the training ammunition Qiao Yunliang had in storage!
At that moment, the weight behind Yin Shuangyang’s name grew even heavier in Yu Dong’s mind.
"Is that all? This won’t last long," Yin Shuangyang said, sounding a little disappointed after hearing the final count. "It’s a shame. We had the money, but couldn’t spend it."
Zou Long sighed. "Boss, you guys just didn’t give me enough time. If I’d had just two more days, I could have gotten several times the ammo, not to mention some much bigger toys."
Yin Shuangyang looked at Yu Dong. "You heard him, Brother Yu. If we end up dying out there because we run out of ammunition, then in the next life... after you’re reborn, don’t do a single thing. Just call me at eight o’clock sharp. You remember my private number, the lottery numbers for that night, and all that other information, right? We’ll start making arrangements that Sunday night. We’ll have Zou prepare a bigger shipment. What the hell can we do with this little ammo...?"
Yu Dong was speechless for a moment. "...Right. My bad."
’All this ammo... and to Yin Shuangyang, it’s not enough.’
Yu Dong thought about it and realized he had a point. It’s not like every bullet would kill a zombie. There just weren’t that many sharpshooters in the world.
Besides, the average person needed to burn through a lot of ammo just to get a feel for a gun and learn to shoot accurately.
’Two million rounds...’ he calculated. ’Even if we’re conservative and assume we get pretty accurate... say, an average of five rounds to take down one zombie... that’s still only 400,000 zombies.’
’It really isn’t a lot.’
That explained why in the last life, even after Qiao’s group secured several hundred thousand rounds from an armory, they still relied mostly on molotovs and crossbows, saving their bullets for critical moments.
’But... how could I have given Zou two more days?’ Yu Dong wondered.
’Unless I did what Yin Shuangyang said and just gave up on everyone else’s preparations, going straight to him right after I was reborn. But that path...’
Yu Dong sighed. This whole meeting was making him deeply uncomfortable.
After they finished discussing weapons and ammunition, there wasn’t much else of importance to say. Yin Shuangyang wasn’t in the same league as Yu Dong. When he wanted something prepared, all he had to do was give an order, and plenty of people would run the errands for him.
By now, even though their men were still working through the night, the plans laid by Yin Shuangyang and Yu Dong were essentially complete.
