Chapter 312: Chapter 260: Apocalypse General Mobilization

"Yeah, their discipline is just not great. I told them to have their protective suits on and assemble by 7:30 to wait together."

"I had them get suited up early, by 7:00."

Yu Dong glanced at Yin Shuangyang, then nodded without saying a word.

The migrant workers had no idea what was going on, but their usual foremen and bosses from the construction site were all here. Plus, they were promised triple pay for these next few days, so there was nothing to complain about.

’It’s pretty good just resting here. We’ll work whenever they tell us to.’

’Anyway, the triple pay is on the table. If the boss doesn’t assign any work, that’s his loss. What’s it to us?’

Yin Shuangyang had specifically instructed his men to select able-bodied construction workers, who would count as decent combat strength after the apocalypse.

At least climbing thirty-two floors wouldn’t half-kill them.

Seeing Yin Shuangyang about to leave, Yu Dong couldn’t help but ask, "Shouldn’t we hold a quick general meeting to brief everyone on the situation?"

"We only need to brief our own people... These guys are all roughnecks with no culture. We’d just cause a panic. What if they start a commotion, demanding to get their families? The moment one of them makes a run for it, the rest will follow. My guns are still at sea; I can’t control this many people."

Yin Shuangyang wasn’t invincible. Before Zou Long’s ship arrived, the few guns he had were mainly for protecting himself and intimidating Yu Dong.

Most of his men were using a hodgepodge of other weapons he had procured.

Things like crossbows, electric batons, machetes, and spears.

They were fine for intimidation, but it would still be difficult for 300 men to subdue 800 brawny workers...

It was less hassle to just not tell them the truth.

After hearing this, Yu Dong understood. These migrant workers... Yin Shuangyang only saw them as reserve muscle, a way to compensate for the lack of manpower after the apocalypse. He didn’t consider them his own people.

Though somewhat cruel, it was certainly the path of least resistance.

Yu Dong and Yin Shuangyang led their core members into the industrial park’s main recreation area. Originally the park’s dormitory, Yin Shuangyang had spent a fortune transforming it into an all-in-one zone for leisure, relaxation, and entertainment.

Beyond the main doors was a striking, long corridor, flanked by the entertainment areas Yin Shuangyang had prepared for his men.

They walked past a bar, a cigar station, slot machines, gambling tables, pool tables, a fighting octagon, an esports room, and many small, private rooms...

The ceiling on this floor was high, and transparent glass walls on both sides provided ample light, illuminating this entertainment complex within the industrial park base.

The henchmen following behind the two leaders had eyes gleaming with excitement.

They were privy to the truth President Yin had shared about the apocalypse. ’Once the world ends... getting to enjoy a huge entertainment complex like this will be the ultimate luxury.’

"Brother Yu, your design for this place is excellent. Ample entertainment will help our men maintain their mental health long-term and improve their loyalty and combat effectiveness. See? Look how much they love it."

"A friend gave me the inspiration..." Yu Dong said, his gaze falling on the small, private, pink-hued rooms. "But you’re quite generous, President Yin, willing to share such beautiful secretaries with the men."

"Don’t even go there. I spent years hand-picking and collecting them... A lot of them are even from good families. Their husbands all think they’re white-collar employees at my company. But those idiots never stop to think... how could their wives get promoted without using a ’promotion device’? Hahaha~"

"..." Yu Dong was surprised he’d even understood the crude pun.

Yin Shuangyang slung an arm around Yu Dong’s shoulder.

"My secretaries are for our use. They’re clean and hygienic. If those guys want women, they can go find their own. In the apocalypse, there will be plenty of women..."

Yin Shuangyang spoke casually, not noticing the subtle change in Yu Dong’s expression.

He glanced outside. He could see the sunlight through the glass, shining on the ground just outside those private little rooms, but it couldn’t penetrate within.

’He had chosen this spot for its excellent sunlight, but it was still not enough to drive out the darkness.’

Yu Dong was gradually coming to understand what this team would do in the future...

After they had inspected everything, it was only 5:00 PM. Yin Shuangyang clapped his hands.

"There’s still some time before 8:00. Everyone, go to the cafeteria for a meal, then hang out and rest in the recreation area for a bit. Relax, but don’t leave this area. Assemble at 7:00 sharp to put on your combat gear!"

"YEAH!!!"

The men had been busy all day; they deserved a good rest before the apocalypse arrived.

Outside, the utterly bored migrant workers were gathered in a factory building after their meal. They clustered in twos and threes, taking the combat suits they’d been issued and using them as makeshift seat cushions. With practiced ease, they pulled decks of cards from their pockets.

Soon, the building was filled with the sharp sound of slapped-down cards and constant shouting.

...

Time flowed by, and soon it was 6:30 PM.

「North River District. Flag-Raising Square.」

Qiao Yunliang’s event was nearly concluded.

Below stood more than 9,000 retired or active-duty soldiers, all dressed in protective gear.

Qiao Yunliang glanced at his watch. It was time.

He flipped to the next page of his notes, which contained the real message for the day.

"Next, I am going to address today’s most important topic. It concerns intelligence about... a major disaster. In truth, this was not a drill. I received a credible report, but because it hasn’t been verified, the higher-ups haven’t taken it seriously."

"But time is short. Since our Yanhai City was the first to receive this information, we must take it seriously and take action!"

"That is why I have summoned you all back here."

Instantly, everyone was stunned!

Not a drill???

’What kind of disaster? Does that mean the training we had on evasion, counter-attacks, and identification... we’re actually going to use it?’
