Chapter 323: Chapter 264: Team Composition

Yanhai City, Zongshan District, Industrial Park Base.

Yu Dong met with his core team members.

They were still strangers to Yu Dong, and they looked at him with a hint of fear.

His appearance certainly wasn’t helping. He’d just fought his way out of an enemy’s nest and was covered from head to toe in blood, not to mention bits of flesh and bone.

He had just personally executed Yin Shuangyang and his surviving lackeys, and the murderous aura around him hadn’t yet faded. He was a world apart from these ordinary people, who were new to the apocalypse and still struggling to process it.

"Zhou Jian Country... what did he say?"

Zhou, who had been by Yu Dong’s side for three lifetimes, wasn’t on the team. Yu Dong felt a pang of regret.

"Professor Zhou learned a lot about the post-apocalyptic world from Xufeng. He went back to his lab to verify his research. When I contacted him later, he was in Kyoto. He told me... that if the world continues to deteriorate, if we really reach a point where less than 1% of humanity is left, it will be incredibly difficult for us to win..."

"He wants to study the fluctuations of four-dimensional particles to see if they’re connected to the cause of the apocalypse."

"He’s prepared his lab and the surrounding area. He’s also going to try and save some of his colleagues so they can conduct observations during the apocalypse."

"As for the chemicals we need, Professor Zhou used his lab’s clearance to purchase a batch of oxides and had them delivered by truck. I bought the rest—the oil, plastic, and sugar—myself. I rented a warehouse near the Zongshan Logistics Center. All our supplies are there."

Yu Dong nodded. He wasn’t surprised by Zhou’s choice.

In his past life, Zhou had been desperate to return to his lab from the very beginning, but he could never find a helicopter. Qiao Yunliang later made him a grand promise, but it never materialized.

Zhou had died full of regret.

This time, having been reborn, Zhou learned more about the future from Xufeng and ultimately chose to remain at the Capital Laboratory.

’The future is too grim!’

One hundred thirty-eight days into the apocalypse, less than 1% of the country’s population would be left.

’It’s too damn hard!’

Even though official channels at the time would often broadcast news of armed forces being organized to wipe out massive hordes of zombies, the vast majority of ordinary people had already died.

The nation’s armed forces were strong, but... people were dying too fast.

Restoring production was difficult, there was no one for logistics, and every sector was operating far too slowly.

That was why in this life, Yu Dong chose a strategy focused on maximizing the number of survivors.

And the most crucial part of that strategy was Qiao Yunliang.

"Lin Mo, how are things on Qiao’s end? Were they able to preserve their main force?"

Lin Mo had just finished clearing zombies from the building across the street and had already spoken to Qiao Yunliang on the phone on his way over.

"There are 942 survivors from the military sub-district, plus the 370 people from the list you provided. That makes a total of 1,312 people on that end. A good number of other retired soldiers, militiamen, and their families should have made it out, too. I estimate there are over ten thousand survivors scattered in various locations throughout the city and its districts."

"Good! Qiao did well this time!"

’In the last life, Qiao seized my authority but didn’t purge my people. That told me... he still has some principles.’

’That was the main reason I still went to Qiao for the activation key in my last life.’

’Before the apocalypse or after, Qiao was always the top commander of Yanhai City’s armed forces. His ability to mobilize people was unmatched.’

’In this life, I’m going to use every force at my disposal to clear the path for my vaccine project!’

’Yin Shuangyang’s resourcefulness, Qiao Yunliang’s ability to mobilize, the leadership skills of other settlement leaders... they’re all good cards to have in my hand.’

’And I’ve played them.’

"Yu Dong, sen— Boss, should you turn on the satellite phone?"

Jiang Zhuoyu felt the form of address was a bit awkward, so he switched to "Boss," which felt much more natural.

"Turn it on. Let’s hear how everyone else is doing."

Jiang Zhuoyu took out the satellite phone. Yu Dong had purchased it a while ago but had kept it turned off to prevent other settlement leaders from contacting him.

The moment he turned it on, a call from Ji Luo came through.

"You’re alive?"

"Yeah. Lived to tell the tale... Lawyer Ji, how are things on your end? Is Professor Meng all right?"

"Don’t worry. Everything here is going according to plan. I just caught two zombies and sent them over to Professor Meng. She wants all of her detailed experiment data. Send it to me while the internet is still up."

"That’s too much data. I’m swamped tonight. Once I’ve finished writing it all out, I’ll have someone deliver it to you by boat."

"All right. Some of your people’s family members survived. I’ll put together a list and send it to you. You can let them know."

"Right."

’You could always count on Ji Luo.’

There was no word from the others yet, but Yu Dong wasn’t worried. This was the most chaotic period, and they would need time to sort out their own affairs.

The matter of the experimental data, however, was giving Yu Dong a headache.

He had an excellent memory. He could recall everything he had seen in his past life. Even a single glance was seared into his memory palace like a frame of film.

He could flip through the experiences of each lifetime at will, pausing on any given frame.

But Meng Dongqing’s four months of experimental data... it was an enormous amount!

Yu Dong had only provided data and records from key junctures before—enough for Ji Luo to win Meng Dongqing’s trust. But the rest of the data... for example, the daily ’lab journals’...

They contained countless key molecular reaction formulas and all sorts of complex academic symbols and terminology. The sheer volume was immense.
