Elden Ring: Starting as Melina’s Sister
Ch. 103 His dog kept howling the moment it saw him.
“I’m back!”
The hunter greeted it perfunctorily.
This dog was still in training; it was still a long way from becoming a qualified hunting dog.
The hunter walked toward his cabin, but the dog was still howling uneasily.
“Hey, I said I’m back!”
The hunter impatiently nudged it with his foot.
As a result, the hunting dog’s howling immediately turned into a threatening low growl.
“Have you rebelled?!”
The hunter reached out to hit it in anger.
Wait…
He was suddenly stunned.
The target of the hunting dog’s threat didn’t seem to be him?
The hunter looked carefully at this small hunting dog that had been with him day and night for nearly half a year.
It seemed to be afraid of something?
Following the hunting dog’s gaze, he looked in that direction.
The hunter shuddered violently, and his breath hitched.
At the edge of the forest, there was clearly a huge white wolf watching him.
That white wolf—one look was enough to realize it was not a creature of this world.
The hunter had never seen such a large wolf; the wolf stood at the edge of the forest, and if it got closer, its shoulder height might reach a person’s chest or abdomen.
What was even more unsettling was that the wolf was white all over.
White fur, white eyes, white nose.
It was also emitting a faint white light.
Just like a ghost from legends.
It stood there, yet it seemed as if it wasn’t there.
The hunter’s heart pounded violently, and he subconsciously stepped back; he swore that the wolf had seen him too.
The eerie white giant wolf turned around and disappeared into the forest in an instant.
It wasn’t until several minutes later that the hunter regained his senses.
From the eye contact with that pure white wolf.
The hunter clearly felt that he had been locked onto by it.
He was its target!
The feeling that all the blood in his body had frozen wouldn’t lie!
There really were wolves in the forest, and they weren’t ordinary wolves!
The hunter panted.
This matter must be told to the elder…
Must be quick!
He didn’t care about the shivering hunting dog and rushed toward the elder’s location.
The elder had already scolded all the young men back home.
He knew in his heart that these hot-blooded young men wouldn’t give up just like that.
But at least it could be peaceful for one night.
“Each generation is worse than the last — —” The elder sighed, leaning on his cane as he sat on the chair by the door of the house.
Then he saw the hunter rushing over in a panic.
“Elder — — El — — Elder!”
The hunter ran over, panting heavily and calling out stutteringly.
The elder, who had just engaged in a battle of wits with the crowd and hadn’t calmed down yet, suddenly felt his head buzzing.
“What, what, what, what!”
The elder retorted irritably, “Are you trying to make this old man die sooner?”
‘How could I dare? Looking at how full of energy you are, you might just live another sixty years.’
A farm woman passing by quickened her pace as she walked in front of the elder’s house.
“There—there’s a wolf!”
The hunter, out of breath, stopped in front of the elder.
The three travelers resting outside the small inn nearby were once again attracted by the sound of the argument coming from in front of the elder’s house.
They had only stopped in this village to rest, yet they had already witnessed two arguments in less than an hour.
It truly made it hard for one to suppress their curiosity.
“Hey, Merlin, do you know what they are arguing about this time?”
The girl in the white dress, carrying a longsword tucked into a beautiful scabbard, turned her head to ask her companion.
The handsome young man holding a long staff with flowers pinned to his clothes, who was none other than Merlin, cast his gaze in that direction.
“It’s about a wolf.”
He yawned.
He felt this village was incredibly boring.
There wasn’t even a single girl who caught his eye; this village was truly too miserable.
Not far away, the hunter was gesticulating wildly, trying to explain the strange giant wolf he had seen to the village elder, his voice growing louder and louder.
The girl in the white dress finally heard clearly what they were talking about.
“A white, ghost-like giant wolf?”
“Are you interested in that sort of thing, Artoria?” Merlin replied, “Come to think of it, in an age where mystery is fading, the appearance of such a thing is indeed a rare occurrence.”
‘Hmm?’
He seemed to have noticed something.
He raised his head and looked at the forest-covered hill not far away.
His gaze seemed to pierce through the trees and the mountain rocks.
“Interesting.”
He suddenly stood up.
“Does Merlin want to go and take a look too?”
Artoria tilted her head and looked at Merlin.
“It’s not just that… Oh my, if I say it now, it won’t be mysterious anymore!” Merlin’s voice was full of enticement, “However, it seems the village elder and the hunter are both quite troubled. Don’t you intend to go and help them?”
“Since people are having trouble, I certainly cannot turn a blind eye!”
She also stood up and walked briskly and enthusiastically towards the hunter and the elder.
“Alright then~” Merlin, who had fallen behind, also followed quickly.
Before that, he looked back at the armored young man who was the only one who hadn’t moved yet.
“If you don’t follow, you won’t be able to protect Artoria, you know? Kay.”
“Ah—as expected, meddling in other people’s business again.” Kay scratched his head in distress.
“Don’t worry!” Merlin patted his chest with full confidence, “We’re just going to look for a strange fantasy creature!”
“You say that every time!” Kay slammed his fist on the table, “In the end, isn’t it still me who has to clean up your mess?!”
“How can you say that? Clearly, Artoria is also enjoying it,” Merlin argued slyly, “Are you coming or not?”
“Hmph.”
Kay crossed his arms and snorted coldly.
Then, reluctantly, he shifted his position and stood up.
At this moment, Artoria had already struck up a conversation with the elder.
