Elden Ring: Starting as Melina’s Sister
Ch. 66 She could clearly feel that teacher Sellen's questioning gaze had already pierced through the glintstone mask.
“Teacher Sellen?” Mia called out to Sellen, who was turned sideways to her, feeling somewhat guilty.
“Apprentice.” Sellen said very seriously.
Mia shivered.
She could clearly feel that teacher Sellen’s questioning gaze had already pierced through the glintstone mask.
It seems that teacher Sellen is not very satisfied with this result…
That means she completely failed just now!
The glintstone exploded. Thinking about it carefully, this is a very dangerous incident, right!
What to do, what to do? Apologize? Should she show her belly?
“I didn’t mean to!” Mia said, sitting upright.
“It is too late to say such things now. Why didn’t you stop before the danger occurred!”
Sellen stomped her staff forcefully.
Mia twisted her hands like an elementary school student who had done something wrong.
Looking at Mia, who knew she was wrong, Sellen shook her head.
“No matter what, you must pay attention to safety.” Sellen said in a powerful and concise tone: “I understand your desire to prove yourself, but you were truly too careless.”
“Yes.” The young girl nodded heavily.
“That is good.” Sellen let out a breath: “However, it was also my lack of consideration. I did not expect to encounter such a situation with someone who has just come into contact with Glintstone Magic. Your talent is truly worthy of admiration.”
“Ah, I have studied Prayer before.”
“Hmm. No wonder you possess such incomparably powerful strength compared to a beginner.” Sellen nodded thoughtfully.
“Once, the husband of Queen Rennala of Caria, the hero of the Erdtree, and the Elden Lord Radagon who later abandoned Rennala to marry Marika, also, like you, studied both Prayer and magic, and enjoyed great fame in both fields.”
“Perhaps you will write a new chapter of your own in the field of Glintstone Magic.” Sellen praised, then switched to an earnest tone: “Of course, learning magic does not rely entirely on talent. Remember, always remain humble and never give up exploring.”
“Understood.” Mia responded.
Sellen’s words undoubtedly represented recognition of the strength she had just demonstrated.
So, she didn’t fail?
The joy of being recognized by others sprouted in the young girl’s heart like bamboo shoots after the rain.
Sellen waved her hand, and the writing on the magic blackboard disappeared: “Very well, let us continue learning. Since you have mastered the basics of resonating with glintstone, what you need to do next is to further understand glintstone,”
“Glintstone Magic is magic that explores the power within glintstone and applies it. But we are creatures of flesh and blood, after all, not glintstone.”
“Therefore, to deeply learn Glintstone Magic, you must imitate glintstone, construct similar magic circuits within your own body, and establish a casting model that belongs exclusively to you.”
As Sellen spoke, writing appeared on the blackboard.
“Become close to glintstone, to the point of making yourself glintstone. The glintstone masks of the Academy of Magic were created and worn by sorcerers for this very purpose.”
“But now… the sorcerers of the Academy have lost even the resolve to transform themselves into glintstone, let alone pursue the origin of the stars.”
“Being able to meet me as your teacher is your good fortune.” Sellen turned around and said enthusiastically: “Perhaps I am the only one left who still has the determination to pursue the root of magic.”
“If you want to explore the origin of the stars, then you must make yourself into a star… Of course, that is a matter for later. For you now, it is too early to imitate stars. Let us start with the glintstone in front of us.”
As she spoke, Sellen placed another piece of glintstone on Mia’s desk.
Looking at the glintstone in front of her, Mia’s expression was somewhat complex.
At teacher Sellen’s words just now, Mia thought of the plot in the game.
After the protagonist, the Tarnished, conquered the Academy of Raya Lucaria and helped teacher Sellen find the two primeval sorcerers who created Glintstone Magic and had already transformed into glintstone life, teacher Sellen returned to the Academy.
To pursue the origin of the stars, teacher Sellen combined her body with the physical forms of the two primeval sorcerers and transformed into what sorcerers believed to be the appearance of the stars—the Sorcerers Sphere.
Having become the Sorcerers Sphere, teacher Sellen, even though she had fallen into chaos and could only communicate in a delirious state, still had not forgotten the player who was her apprentice.
“…” Mia stared at the glintstone in front of her, pursing her lips.
“What is it?” Sellen asked with concern.
“It’s nothing.” Mia forced a smile.
Sellen did not notice anything amiss and nodded: “Then I shall teach you how to understand glintstone now.”
She drew a diagram on the blackboard that looked just like a molecular formula.
“Every piece of glintstone has different magic circuits; they have countless starting points, but in the end, there is only one destination…”
Sellen’s staff transformed into a pointer, moving constantly over that ‘chemical formula.’ She pointed to a hexagonal shape and said: “This is a magic node.” Then, pointing to the thin lines connecting these hexagons, she said: “These are magic veins.”
“All magic veins are straight lines; they only change direction when passing through a magic node. Whether it is a magic vein or a magic node, they each have different characteristics…”
She then drew a complex table on the other side of the blackboard: “This was summarized by Master Azur and Master Lusat, the creators of Glintstone Magic. It lists the 118 magic characteristics displayed by the magic circuits within glintstone…”
“You need to imitate these magic circuits within your body according to your own constitution, and then you can guide your magic according to the formula to cast Glintstone Magic. If you can reconstruct all the characteristic Glintstone Magic circuits within yourself, you will be able to cast all currently known Glintstone Magic.”
“The more magic circuits you have within you, the closer your body becomes to glintstone itself, and the stronger the Glintstone Magic you can cast. glintstone crowns and magic staves can also serve as external magic circuits to reinforce your Glintstone Magic.”
“Let’s take it slow, because as of now, no one has managed to reconstruct all the Glintstone Magic circuits within their body. At Raya Lucaria Academy, students are divided into several large classrooms to learn different types of magic.”
Sellen taught earnestly, completely unaware that Mia was staring intently at her back.
A back clad in blue robes, immersed in knowledge, yet a slightly thin back.
In order to see the source of Glintstone Magic, Teacher Sellen pursued a Glintstone Magic that possessed a pure spirit of exploration.
That place which had lost even its name, becoming the ‘Raya Lucaria Academy’—the Carian Royal Academy—was controlled by the cold, aloof moon hanging above.
Not only were sorcerers who pursued the primeval current considered heretics, but even those who viewed the stars and the moon as equals were branded as heretics.
Sellen wished to revive the origin of magic, to break free from that cold, aloof moon, and to change the academy that had lost its drive, using magic purely for show and sycophancy.
For this, she sacrificed everything.
Mia clenched her hands.
Teacher Sellen, I will certainly not disappoint your teachings now…
But in the future, I will definitely ensure you have a better ending. I want you to use your own clear eyes to see the source of Glintstone Magic with your own eyes.
You deserve a future much happier than becoming a Sorcerers Sphere.
