Elden Ring: Starting as Melina’s Sister
Ch. 92 Margit, the Fell Omen
The assailant held a beautiful rapier; after getting up from the ground, his expression as he looked at Mia was uncertain.
He could tell that Mia was a very powerful sorceress.
From being ambushed to releasing Magic Pebbles, there was almost no process of channeling mana.
The time it took to launch a counterattack was startlingly short.
Mia did not continue her attack; after the assailant shouted those words, she immediately knew it was a misunderstanding.
“It’s a misunderstanding!” she explained.
Even though they were the ones being attacked, more importantly, they were the ones causing others to misunderstand.
At this time, insisting on the idea of ‘if someone attacks me, I must attack back’ would only make things worse.
It would be a foolish move.
Wilden had already drawn his weapons, but after Mia’s shout, he stopped any further action, crossing his dual swords in front of him in a posture ready for combat at any moment.
Patches, who couldn’t break the ropes instantly like Mia, had entered a ridiculous ‘head-down-and-crouch’ defensive posture the moment the conflict began.
“What exactly is going on?” The assailant didn’t want to make a fool of himself and asked Mia.
“Phew…” Seeing that the other party was indeed reasonable, Mia breathed a sigh of relief.
She did recognize the attire on the Soldier in front of her.
Naturally, she also knew who the Soldier before her was—the Spellblade Roger.
But Mia didn’t have the habit of using her informational advantage to expose someone’s identity and make them suspicious.
“As you can see,” the girl explained to Roger, “he is my companion.”
“Then why were you tied up?”
Mia’s short sentence wasn’t enough to dispel Roger’s doubts.
However, seeing that Mia and Patches hadn’t attacked him, they probably weren’t Bloodfingers who lived by attacking their own kind.
“It’s just a way to avoid fighting,” Mia replied. “If we didn’t do this, who knows how difficult it would be to reach the foot of Stormveil Castle.”
After saying that, Mia changed the subject and asked, “And how did you get in?”
Roger glanced at Wilden.
Mia noticed Roger’s wariness and said to Wilden, “Never mind, Wilden, he’s not an enemy.”
Wilden nodded, but he still didn’t sheathe his swords; he simply dropped his combat stance, holding the dual swords with his arms hanging naturally.
Seeing this, Roger’s hand holding the rapier relaxed a bit more.
He shrugged and answered calmly, “Just playing it by ear; the soldiers’ defenses are quite lax.”
“I see…” Mia mused. “You want to go to Stormveil too? How about traveling together?”
She extended an invitation to Roger.
The invitation seemed a bit abrupt.
Roger felt this; he frowned slightly, remained silent for a few seconds, and then asked in return, “Why are you going to Stormveil?”
“To challenge the lord of this castle.”
“And what about him?” Roger pointed at Wilden.
“He is…” Mia was about to explain.
Wilden spoke up, “I am her attendant.”
“Attendant?” Roger was somewhat surprised. “What an unusual combination. Everyone in this castle is hunting the Tarnished to use as sacrifices for grafting.”
“That’s why someone who can help us slip past other malicious soldiers is very precious.”
Mia gave a broad, friendly smile. “We aren’t the first to be questioned like this. You can call me Mia, and this is Wilden.”
“I am Roger, and as you might have guessed, a sorcerer.”
Roger sheathed his sword, finally letting down his guard, and showed a friendly smile that was warm but not overstepping.
The Spellblade was quite good-looking.
Although he fit Mia’s aesthetic, it was a pity.
She had no sexual interest in men.
Patches, with the ropes still on his hands, looked at the two people around him.
“What about me?” Patches pointed at himself.
When Mia introduced them to Roger just now, she had skipped right over him.
“Ah, this is Patches. Like you and me, he’s a Tarnished. We’re heading to Stormveil to challenge the lord here.”
“I’m just following you; I never said I’d go challenge the lord with you…”
Patches’ quiet mumble did not escape Mia’s ears.
When the girl turned back and gave him a ‘kind’ expression, Patches shuddered.
He instantly looked away, pretending what just happened never occurred.
“You can see the guidance of grace?” Roger, standing opposite the group, suddenly asked.
Mia nodded, admitting it.
“So that’s why you want to challenge Godrick and obtain the great rune…” Roger marveled. “I truly envy you. Although I am a Tarnished just like you, I haven’t seen the guidance for a very long time.”
Patches asked, “Then why did you come to this city?”
“What I’m looking for is inside this city,” Roger replied.
“Looking for what?” Even though he was still tied up, Patches’ interest was piqued upon hearing Roger’s words.
When it came to the pursuit of wealth, Patches never wanted to be left behind.
Roger smiled slightly, keeping the truth hidden. “Well, it’s not convenient for me to disclose that.”
“Ahaha,” Patches said somewhat awkwardly, “Fair enough. One must be on guard against strangers…”
Just as Patches finished speaking, Roger added, “However, I am still a Tarnished who was once blessed by grace. I believe I can help you in that capacity.”
He continued, “If you want to enter the city… you’ll need to pass through someone’s blockade. You should know of Margit, the Fell Omen, who hunts the Tarnished, right?”
Mia nodded. “I know.”
If she wasn’t mistaken, the ‘Fell Omen’ Roger spoke of was indeed Margit.
Mia didn’t know if other Tarnished in The Lands Between knew the great name of Margit, the Fell Omen, but as a player, she certainly did.
Master of the delayed strike, Teacher Margit was the first story boss players encountered in a normal playthrough.
Roger gave a bitter smile. “I truly underestimated the power of that Fell Omen. I couldn’t advance a single step further toward the city, and there are soldiers blocking the way behind. As you can see, I am currently in a dilemma, forced to hide within this tunnel.”
“I launched a rash attack before understanding your situation, hoping to gain an ally… I am truly sorry.”
“Since no one was hurt, it doesn’t matter,” Mia said magnanimously.
“How about it, want to come along? If possible, we might be able to sneak into the city without fighting, and then find an opportunity to battle the Lord of the castle.”
Roger gave a bitter smile. “While it’s a good idea… that Omen likely already recognizes me.”
From the conversation just now, he had revealed that he challenged Margit but was defeated.
Not knowing how to head back, he had been lying low in this tunnel.
So, if he were to pretend to be a ‘sacrifice’ along with Mia and the others…
The chances of it working were slim.
“Don’t worry too much about it,” Roger said, waving his hand, afraid he would pressure Mia and disrupt his fellow Tarnished’s plan. “If you have the confidence to bluff your way through, then go. I can continue to wait for an opportunity.”
