Chapter 1838: New Deal and Future Power Ups
Adam was returning to Varreyn while Lakma underwent fusion. Very soon, Adam will gain access to her energy and powers.
It won’t be as significant a power boost as when Adam obtained Lone Blaze or the Silver Weaver, but Adam will definitely become stronger.
Lakma will take her place at the top of the Evolution Tree, essentially operating under the Silver Weaver’s command.
She won’t have her own zone, she isn’t strong enough for that, and she didn’t have such a deep connection with Adam, but even that was more than enough for Adam’s progress.
“I feel it…” Adam muttered as he moved toward Varreyn. “They’ve already started, right? Well, considering that I’ll be heading to the Gray Sea after this, I could use some help.”
The higher Adam’s level was, the harder it was for him to acquire new abilities. It wasn’t that the methods for doing so had disappeared, but rather that the time between each stage was growing longer.
Before, he had been able to reach K1 and K2 Levels in the time it took him to create the Second Grand Star. However, in terms of pure power, Adam had become significantly stronger, but the variety of his abilities had decreased.
“Hmm. The fact that I can change my abilities if I master them well helps a little, but still… I feel like something is missing. I hope that when I create the Third Grand Star, I’ll get something worthwhile.”
Adam realized he was already almost a Second-Rank Phantom.
In fact, he could receive only one enhancement before becoming a Second-Rank Phantom. If nothing remarkable happened after Lakma and the Third Grand Star, then Adam could count on nothing else.
‘Either way, I’ll make it to the Second Circle no matter what it takes. I know that for most people, the main problem is the barrier, but I’ll deal with that after I create the Third Grand Star!’
Feeling a sudden surge of motivation, Adam picked up his pace. Very soon, he would set out for the Gray Sea. All that remained was to get a compass.
Whooooooosh!
Racing through rocky terrain, Adam approached the city walls as he slowed down. Sure, he had Krador’s emblem, but if he tried to break through the walls at full speed, he would inevitably run into trouble.
“Hmm?” The guard glared at Adam. “Phantom? You don’t come here very often. Are you still connected to the Mist Owl? Alright, go ahead, Mr. Krador mentioned you, or rather, his people did.”
Adam nodded as he walked through the opening gates.
‘Hmm, this guard was much more laid-back than the first one. Then again, if I were in his place, I’d take it all in stride. I’d go crazy if I had to scrutinize everyone who wanted to enter the city.’
Varreyn was a large city, but apart from a few specific districts, there were hardly any problems here. The monsters fought either in the arenas or outside the city.
The guards, the factions, powerful individuals, and the three Renegades.
All these forces were necessary to maintain order in Varreyn, and in terms of safety, this city could easily rival the Second Ring or even the First Ring.
A creak.
The door opened as Adam entered Krador’s house.
“Oh, he’s back!” Laroza exclaimed, raising a bottle of beer.
‘Wait… Is she?’ Adam narrowed his eyes, staring intently at Laroza’s flushed cheeks and the silly smile on her face.
‘Is she drunk?!’
Adam couldn’t even imagine how much alcohol a monster as powerful as Laroza would have to drink to get drunk.
“Hey…” Laroza purred, noticing his gaze. “Where are you looking? Were you teasing me when we first met?”
Hearing the noise, Krador came out of the next room. His eyes narrowed as he looked expectantly at Adam.
“We saw the aftermath of your battle at the Silent Hills. I’m impressed that you returned so quickly.”
Then, Krador’s gaze grew darker as his aura intensified.
“I hope you found what I asked for? Otherwise, our deal is off.”
When Krador sent Adam to the Silent Hills, Adam still didn’t know what the Glass Root actually was. He had deliberately withheld this information because he realized that if Adam found out about Lakma and the crystal, he would have a lot of questions.
Adam understood this, but he wasn’t angry with Krador. In Krador’s place, he would have done the same thing if he had needed the Glass Root.
Without saying a word, Adam nodded before slipping his hand under his coat.
A faint light shone from beneath the fabric as his hand emerged.
He was holding the Glass Root, slowly opening his palm.
“Yes. I got it. This is the Glass Root you were talking about, isn’t it?”
Krador gulped.
It didn’t matter that he was a Lord. He couldn’t obtain the Glass Root. If he had tried to do the same thing Adam did, Lakma’s inner space would simply have self-destructed.
Moreover, the truth was that Krador wouldn’t have had enough power to do it.
If he had entered Lakma’s inner space, his power would have been reduced not just several times, as in Adam’s case, but several hundred times.
Krador wouldn’t have lasted even a few attacks, and Lakma would have had a real chance of absorbing him as some kind of resource.
Only those who knew about this rare object understood the full danger.
But, thanks to Adam, Krador now had the opportunity to obtain the Glass Root, the beginning of a Phantom.
“Unbelievable. I have to say I had my doubts about you at first, but you’ve pleasantly surprised me.”
Laroza stared at the Glass Root with wide eyes before nodding contentedly.
“Hah, but I never doubted you! I knew you’d pull it off once you set out for the Gray Sea!”
Adam looked at the Glass Root.
“It’s a valuable item, for sure.”
Unfortunately for Krador, Adam now understood just how unique this resource was.
“That’s exactly why I think we should renegotiate the terms of our deal, don’t you think?”
