Chapter 802: Chapter 682: What’s Wrong with the Murderer?!!
Li Shang suddenly turned around, almost running as he burst out of the room, dashed down the stairs, sprinted out of the villa, heading straight to the bloodstain under the streetlamp a dozen meters away.
Chang Erbing and the others were stunned by his actions and quickly hurried to catch up.
Gasping for breath, Li Shang stopped under the streetlamp, half-crouched down, and carefully observed the form, area, and spray direction of the bloodstain.
After a moment, he adjusted his breathing, looked up with a stern expression at the constable from the technical department who had followed, and said in a deep voice:
"Where is the body?"
The constable from the technical department was startled by the question, looking puzzled:
"Body? Captain Li, what are you talking about? When we arrived after receiving the report, there was only this bloodstain, and signs of a fight and vehicle damage. There was no body here."
"No body?!"
Li Shang looked shocked, his first reaction was that there was a mistake in his reasoning at the most crucial point.
But he reviewed his deduction in his mind again, from the way the maid died, to the bloodstains and teeth on the second floor, to the drag marks on the window... the logical chain should be complete.
He squatted down again, re-examining the distribution pattern and splash point of the bloodstain.
Minutes later, Li Shang’s forehead was tightly furrowed, but his gaze became resolute again:
"My deduction is not wrong, regardless of whether the body is Feng Ju, judging from the distribution of the bloodstain, the body that flew out of the window should indeed be a dead person.
There should have been a body here, right? Then, where did the body go? Was it moved by the murderer?"
The man from the Mechanical Department frowned slightly, looking at the blood on the ground, thinking:
"Should there be a body here? Well... this matter is very important and should be reported to Special Commissioner Zheng as soon as possible."
Li Shang stood up and started searching the surrounding lawn and roadway with the pool of blood under the streetlamp as the center.
Chang Erbing and the constable from the technical department saw this, though confused, also began to help expand the search range.
Finally, a set of footprints was found in the bushes about ten meters away from the blood pool.
Li Shang approached, carefully identifying: one, two, three, four... four footprints!
But these four footprints were unusually close together, almost overlapping, as if two people were walking with their feet almost side by side, bodies pressed together?
Furthermore, judging by the depth of the footprints, it showed that the weight of whoever left them was abnormally heavy.
"The second group of murderers consisted of two people, tying their feet together to walk, and they carried the body away?"
Li Shang deduced in his mind but felt that something was off.
Li Shang followed the direction of these four-legged footprints, continuing forward, until they disappeared again.
Li Shang did not give up and continued forward, until after another 20 meters, he discovered another set... of the same four-legged footprints!
Li Shang crouched down, carefully observing this new set of footprints.
The grass around the footprints was stomped flat, pushed into the dirt, and the soil on the edges of the footprints was not just compacted, but... splashed outward.
Li Shang’s pupils suddenly contracted, looking back in the direction the footprints extended, calculating the distance between them, questioning inwardly:
"These two people carried a body, but did not walk normally, instead, they tied their legs together and hopped along, eventually jumping all the way out of the Jade Garden.
What on earth, are they out of their minds?"
....
On the top floor of the Executive Mansion, in the round table conference room, the air was so thick it could almost be wrung out.
The heavy mahogany round table was polished to a mirror-like finish, reflecting the chandelier on the ceiling composed of countless crystal prisms, casting cold white light evenly on the faces of the dozen or so members of parliament seated around it.
The Chief Member sat erect in the main seat, his face still like it was covered with a frozen mask, devoid of any emotional fluctuation.
Even the critical matter of an envoy’s life or death couldn’t elicit even the slightest ripple on that face.
Zhang Deming sat there serenely, a meaningful smile on his lips, his gaze occasionally flitting towards Wang Xinfa.
Wang Xinfa could sense the ill intentions in Zhang Deming’s gaze, his heart set on high alert, but his expression remained impervious, maintaining an equally calm facade, with only his fingers subtly clenching on the armrest.
The other members exchanged a glance, each sensing the sinister undertones of the atmosphere, each calculating how to position themselves, how to benefit, or whether there was an opportunity to knock someone down a peg.
The Chief Member lightly swept his gaze around the room, then said:
"The matter of the Jade Garden, I’m sure everyone here has heard of it."
This wasn’t a question, but a statement.
He paused slightly, preparing to continue,
"If the basic circumstances are clear, then I will have..."
"Excuse me, Chief, sorry for the interruption."
Zhang Deming suddenly spoke, courteously interrupting the Chief Member’s words, his face carrying just the right amount of apology,
"Ah, getting old, not as useful as before. Last night, my heart was feeling a bit off, so I took a sleeping pill and went to bed early.
My secretary knows about my health condition, so didn’t dare to wake me without due cause.
I only found out about the big situation in the Jade Garden on my way here, heard that... the special commissioner is in trouble, is that correct?"
The Chief Member was interrupted but showed no hint of anger, merely looked calmly at Zhang Deming, without responding to his question.
Zhang Deming didn’t feel awkward in the slightest, as if he hadn’t expected an answer from the Chief at all.
