Chapter 842 -702: The Art of Communication Lies in…
Li Shang suddenly understood everything, as if enlightened, or like a bucket of ice water poured from head to toe, chilling him to the bone.
In this circle of power, where everyone seems to wear countless masks and hide countless secrets, those who can deduce and extract others’ secrets often find themselves caught between roles, blamed on both sides.
Only those who know a large number of secrets, or have even become part of the secrets themselves, are truly trusted as “their own” by the people in the circle of power.
They are not diggers of secrets but are the keepers, sharers, and even creators of secrets.
Deducing secrets is a skill, but also a warning from power.
Yet, being allowed to “share” secrets is the true acknowledgment of power.
Perhaps he had gotten the core of the issue wrong before.
Detective, detective… this is a path destined to be shunned!
Li Shang was suddenly awakened, followed by an uncontrollable sorrow.
Because following this line of logic, he easily arrived at a conclusion that filled him with despair:
That is, he might never become the person to whom secrets are voluntarily “shared.”
The power of the detective he relied on for fame is essentially about probing and exposing secrets.
Such an ability inherently carries poison, always being used by those in power to achieve specific goals, accompanied by constant vigilance and suspicion.
No one will truly trust a person who can see through secrets.
They will only use you, fear you, and then, when your value is exhausted or deemed more of a threat than an asset, unhesitatingly “destroy” you, like disposing of a dangerous waste product.
Unless the person in power, who is willing to share secrets, is himself a… fearless madman?!!
“Knock, knock, knock—”
Guan Chong’s knocking interrupted Li Shang’s scattered thoughts.
From inside, a neutral, emotionless voice came, precisely Feng Mu:
“Come in!”
Guan Chong obediently pushed the door open, stepping aside to allow entry, gesturing for Li Shang and Chang Erbing to enter.
Once they had both entered the office, he gently closed the door from outside.
Feng Mu was standing up from the sofa by the window, wearing a friendly smile, approaching Li Shang, a far cry from the “madman” image Li Shang had just imagined outside the door.
However, there was still a man with a gourd on his back sitting by the sofa, who did not give any friendly look upon seeing Li Shang and Chang Erbing enter.
Wang Cong saw Feng Mu rise to greet the guest and stood up with a sneer himself, rudely saying to Feng Mu:
“Feng Mu, I came today considering that you have treated me quite well in the past, so I kindly remind you. The ‘Octagonal Cage Beast Fighting’ plan is widely involved, too large to handle, and the water is too deep for you to manage.”
His gaze boring into Feng Mu, his tone became even more aggressive:
“So, I advise you to face reality and not harbor any unrealistic ambitions!
Next, you’d better obediently follow my cooperation and guidance. Only then can you ensure there are no slips…”
Confronted with Wang Cong’s aggressive demeanor, Feng Mu’s smile slightly faded, but he did not get angry, responding in a calm tone:
“The one who truly needs to put away unrealistic thoughts is you, Wang Cong.”
Feng Mu paused, then continued earnestly:
“The lady appointed me to manage the Second Prison, so I’ll manage it well. Keep your hands out of my affairs, and likewise, how the ‘Octagonal Cage Beast Fighting’ plan is prepared outside the Second Prison is your business, and I won’t meddle.”
Upon hearing this, Wang Cong’s sneer deepened:
“Humph! Don’t know a good thing for you. I’m worried that you’re not competent enough to handle this mess. If the Second Prison has any mishaps that drag down my plans and affect the whole project, will you bear the blame from President Lu?”
Feng Mu’s face also completely cooled down, as if a layer of frost covered it.
But he seemed to be too lazy to engage in meaningless arguments with the other party, merely glancing at Wang Cong before shifting his gaze away.
Seeing that Feng Mu was no longer speaking, Wang Cong deliberately snorted heavily again, striding out of the office and slamming the door as he left.
Li Shang entered the room and witnessed such a confrontation, filled with tension and ending unhappily. After Wang Cong left in anger and the office returned to quietness, he looked at Feng Mu with slight embarrassment:
“It seems I came at a bad time? Did I interrupt your serious discussion?”
Feng Mu’s face instantly turned sunny, as if the confrontation had never happened; he casually waved his hand, speaking in a relaxed and warm tone:
“Come on now, Captain Li, you’re being too polite. A good friend visiting is always timely, and I’m more than happy to welcome you!”
He gestured towards the sofa, inviting Li Shang and Chang Erbing to sit down,
“You arrived just in time, helping me get rid of that annoying guy, sparing me from his entanglement.”
The smile on Feng Mu’s face suddenly faded, instantly replaced by a harsh murderous aura, his voice coming out through clenched teeth:
“If it weren’t for the lady’s specific instructions, emphasizing the importance of the bigger picture and the need to consider all reactions… I would never let someone who betrayed friends like that walk out of the Second Prison alive.”
Li Shang knew clearly that Feng Mu’s words were aimed at the just-departed Wang Cong, with no ulterior motives or indirect references.
Feng Mu was not that kind of person.
But for some reason, he suddenly felt an icy chill climb up the back of his neck?
The intense murderous aura on Feng Mu’s face came quickly and went just as fast.
In just a fleeting moment, he had already withdrawn all his outward emotions, picking up unremarkable black-framed glasses from the table next to him and putting them back on.
