Chapter 851 -706: Thorny, Misunderstanding? (2)

“Before I go with you… can I take another look at your credentials? Just to confirm and put my mind at ease.”

Upon hearing this, Zhao Lu immediately showed a sneer of “it should have been like this,” thinking Feng Mu finally couldn’t withstand the pressure and was ready to submit.

As he impatiently pulled out his credentials from his inside pocket, he urged,

“What? Still unwilling to give up? Suspecting us of being impostors? Take a good look! Executive Government Mobility Department, genuine as ever!”

His colleague silently took out his credentials again as well.

They weren’t worried at all; although neither of them was from the Mobility Department, their credentials were undeniably authentic.

Feng Mu took their credentials, studied them in front of his face for a couple of seconds, then handed them to Li Shang, saying,

“Captain Li, you’re experienced and have sharp eyes. Could you help me check if these two credentials are real or fake?”

Li Shang was slightly stunned but still examined them carefully, rubbing the paper edges and emblem texture with his fingers, checking the watermark against the light, scrutinizing every detail.

After several seconds of repeated checking, he raised his head, looked at Feng Mu, and solemnly gave a definitive answer:

“The paper, printing, craftsmanship, emblem detail, stamp… all seem fine. They should be real!”

Zhao Lu’s face showed an even more pronounced sense of pride, almost humming aloud. He arrogantly looked at Feng Mu as if to say,

“Are you convinced now? Ready to obediently follow us!”

Feng Mu took back the two credentials from Li Shang.

His movements were slow, his gaze lowered, looking at the two small booklets in his palm representing ‘official’ and ‘authority,’ his face expressionless.

Zhao Lu impatiently extended his hand, preparing to take back his credentials.

However, right when his fingers were about to touch the credentials, Feng Mu’s hand unexpectedly… loosened!

“Clatter!”

The two light sounds were particularly sharp and clear in the silent office.

The two dark blue credentials, like discarded trash, slipped from Feng Mu’s fingers, fell to the cold ground, bouncing slightly, and got covered in dust.

Zhao Lu’s hand froze in midair, his face’s pride and arrogance instantly solidified, transforming into extreme astonishment and disbelief.

In a flash, Feng Mu’s hand that released the credentials gently reached forward, gripping Zhao Lu’s throat.

“Ugh…!”

Zhao Lu could only let out a painful muffled groan. His entire body was forcibly lifted from the ground by an irresistible force.

His feet immediately left the ground, flailing helplessly in the air; his complexion turned swiftly from red to dark purple due to suffocation, with eyeballs bulging out, filled with blood and terror.

Single-armed, Feng Mu held the struggling Zhao Lu, with his arm steady like a rock, not even a tremble.

His face still didn’t show any fierce expression, just slightly furrowed brows, looking down at the two credentials fallen on the ground, sighing quietly, remarking,

“But no matter how I look, I just feel… these two credentials are fake?”

Li Shang felt a chill rushing from the soles of his feet to his skull, with his whole body’s blood seemingly freezing in an instant.

His eyes were wide open, staring fixedly at the Mobility Department credentials on the ground, with his brain buzzing like a swarm of bees.

Fake?

How could these be fake?!

He strongly suspected Feng Mu of talking nonsense, but he opened his mouth, unable to speak.

As a friend, he couldn’t jump out to vouch for the Mobility Department, but if he said nothing, the Mobility Department guy would have his neck snapped.

This Mobility Department guy is indeed annoying, but killing him here in Second Prison and especially before him would cause big trouble.

Even Chang Erbing stood up with a start, aghast at the scene before him.

He always knew Feng Mu was audacious, but witnessing it firsthand was still terrifying.

Li Shang, in urgent worry, stepped forward, deciding to advise Feng Mu.

It’s not that one can’t kill, but not so blatantly.

The Mobility Department must have reported when coming to Second Prison. If these two really die here, things will be hard to explain later.

Feng Mu might not explain, and neither could Li Shang.

But before Li Shang could speak, Feng Mu turned head, smiling sweetly at him, saying,

“Captain Li, didn’t you say earlier you’d help me kill Wang Cong? I declined your kind offer then, but thinking back, I feel guilty, like I let down a friend’s warm heart.”

He paused, his gaze passing over the nearly suffocated Zhao Lu, then fell back on Li Shang’s face, proposing more sincerely,

“Why not, Captain Li, make it up now?!!”

Li Shang: “…”

He froze entirely, his brain blanking for a moment.

Though the logic was strangely heartwarming, something felt off.

Do you think killing is like giving a gift, where you try again if you fail to deliver?

If anyone else said this, Li Shang would definitely think they were forcing him into submission, coercing him onto their bandwagon.

But… the person before him was Feng Mu.

Seeing Feng Mu’s clear, transparent eyes and his “thinking of you” smile, Li Shang thought maybe… maybe he indeed meant it sincerely.

In this madman’s worldview, accepting a friend’s “murdering help” and reciprocating might genuinely be a way to maintain friendship?

The most high-level and pure kindness!!!

“If I refuse, would I seem ungrateful?”

Li Shang’s mouth opened, then closed powerlessly, suddenly unsure how to respond to this unbelievable “invitation.”

As Li Shang was internally writhing, rooted on the spot, the other Mobility Department member finally reacted from extreme shock.

His expression changed dramatically, yelling in furious desperation,

“Feng Mu! What the hell are you doing? Let go of Zhao Lu; assaulting Mobility Department personnel is a serious crime, do you know what you’re doing?! Are you crazy?!”

Feng Mu’s smiling expression unchanged, casually turned his head:

“Where is the Mobility Department? I only see two audacious, impostor officials pretending to be executive government officers.”

“You!!!”

The Mobility Department personnel shook with rage, heart pounding, almost leaping from his throat.

He forced calm, rage masking fear with louder shouting:

“Feng Mu, let go now; I promise not to pursue this matter. But if you insist on your way, think carefully: Shangguan knows us being here at Second Prison.

Even if you don’t cooperate, killing us here won’t help, just utterly ruin yourself.”

Feng Mu listened intently, nodding as though genuinely pondering his words.

Then, raising his head, asking sincerely:

“Hmm, your point makes sense. Killing just you two achieves nothing, so could you tell me which superior officer exactly?”

The other Mobility Department member showed alarm; seeing Feng Mu’s seriousness, thought to himself,

“A madman, this one is; no wonder our commander wants us to trick him back, damn it, all because Zhao Lu couldn’t hide his malice, now I’m doomed because of him.”

He glanced at Zhao Lu, whose face had turned from blue to ghastly pale, hands previously weakly clawing Feng Mu’s arm now completely hanging limp, only toes slightly twitching, clearly about to expire.

He frantically needed to save Zhao Lu, or he’d be dead too.

Wanting to act but meeting Feng Mu’s indifferent gaze, he couldn’t muster the courage to move.

More despairingly, unbeknownst to him, the office door had been opened, letting masked prison guards enter, aiming guns at him.

He dared not move, his voice turning shrill and off-key from extreme fear:

“Feng Mu, stop, misunderstanding! A huge misunderstanding!

We’re… we’re on the same side, working for Mr. Wang. There’s a misunderstanding; release Zhao Lu, everything can be discussed, we’re allies!”
