Chapter 857: Those With Secrets Should...
Chapter 857 -709: Those With Secrets Should…
“It seems you are loyal to your target, and indeed, the Second Prison holds some untold secrets.”
The man on the ground struggled more fiercely upon hearing this, blood gushing from his wounds and staining the ground beneath him.
Even though Shadow Scorpion easily pinned his chest underfoot, rendering him immobile, his unyielding will still communicated through his trembling body.
Fire Raven spoke up at the right moment:
“The captain is wise, he sensed early on that this target is not simple.”
The captain spoke softly, his voice free of joy or anger:
“Yes… killing someone is easy. Breaking their bones, tearing their muscles, is no more difficult for us than squashing a bug.”
His gaze fell again on the face of the man on the ground.
“But, making someone willing to die for a cause, stubbornly keeping secrets even in dire straits, that’s not so easy. After all, even an elephant cannot force an ant to commit suicide.”
He paused, as if savoring this rare phenomenon.
“I have grown a little curious about our target, Feng Mu.”
Shadow Scorpion’s eyes flashed as he chimed in:
“Captain, do you mean… should we adjust our plan moving forward? Change to… prioritize capturing alive?”
Upon hearing this, the man on the ground suddenly found a burst of strength from somewhere, his struggles became incredibly violent.
The captain looked down at the man who reacted fiercely to a certain name, his voice suddenly cold and sharp as a knife:
“No.”
“Probing someone else’s secrets is too tiring, and too dangerous. Curiosity often leads to unnecessary trouble.”
“Killing someone remains the simplest, most direct, least troublesome option.”
His tone returned to its usual icy resolve.
“Those with secrets should die with their secrets.”
Unexpectedly, upon hearing this decision, the man who was previously struggling violently suddenly ceased all movement.
He no longer tried to break free or utter meaningless roars, and in his bloodshot eyes, anger and fear receded like the tide.
Replacing them was an extremely strange emotion—a mix of a little pity, a little mockery, and a little… like looking at a group of dead people coldly.
The captain clearly noticed the change in the man’s gaze, but he was not annoyed, instead as if he saw something interesting, he said lightly:
“Oh—interesting. It seems you have a different opinion? Do you think… the dead ones will be us?”
“Oh—”
Shadow Scorpion and the other two White Masked members, seemingly amused by the man’s “overconfident” gaze, let out cruelly tinged snickers in unison.
To them, it was nothing more than the meaningless delusions and curses of a defeated dog nearing its death.
Though the captain had mentioned that the target might be unusual.
Thus, they prudently changed the mission from capture to kill, which was their utmost respect for the target.
As for the possibility of them being the ones to die?
Don’t be ridiculous, who would believe that!
And just as they were laughing happily, the human skin mask in the captain’s hand unexpectedly melted into a milky white viscous liquid.
Then, it dripped down between his fingers onto the ground, emitting a peculiar almond-like smell.
In the blink of an eye, the exquisitely crafted human skin mask merged with the dirty mud on the ground, losing all form instantly.
The captain flicked the remaining viscous liquid from his hand, his brow slightly furrowed beneath the mask:
“The skin has self-destructed… The craftsmanship of this mask is unexpectedly ingenious. Not only realistically mimicking, but it also has a built-in biodegradation mechanism…”
The usually taciturn Fort now chimed in with a guttural voice:
“If someone investigates the disappearance or death of these two useless people, then the investigation result would be that Iron Claw ‘killed and destroyed bodies’.”
Although for this team of White Masked members, killing a few people was not a big deal, and they did not mind carrying a few more lives on their backs,
this feeling of seemingly being tricked was like swallowing a fly, leaving an inexplicably intense discomfort in their hearts.
The man on the ground also seemed to realize the significance of the mask’s self-destruction, his brows and eyes struggled to move his muscles, revealing an extremely distorted smile.
The captain watched the changing expression on the man’s face, his eyes twirled around, pondering something unknown.
His face suddenly turned cold, his voice hoarse:
“Your loyalty to the target, I appreciate, but the way you look at me, I don’t like.”
Before the voice settled, Shadow Scorpion’s tail behind him snapped out.
“Slash!”
A line of blood streaked across, Shadow Scorpion now holding two blood-stained eyeballs, still showing a shocked expression.
Shadow Scorpion didn’t even look, his fingertips slightly exerting force.
“Squash!”
The two eyeballs turned into sticky red and white mush, dripping from his fingers.
“Ahhh—hohoho—!!”
The man let out a painful howl, his entire body arching sharply and convulsing, like a live shrimp tossed into a pot of boiling oil.
Shadow Scorpion and nearby Fire Raven, Fort, revealed cruel and satisfied chuckles beneath their masks.
Only the captain, he did not laugh.
Instead, he coldly swept a glance at the three subordinates who were laughing happily, his gaze like ice water poured over one’s head, instantly extinguishing their laughter.
“What are you laughing at?”
The captain’s voice was bone-chilling, unsettling,
“The target might be even more dangerous than I previously thought.”
Shadow Scorpion and the other two quickly fell silent, looking at each other in confusion, not understanding why the captain suddenly made this judgment.
The captain seemed to see through their thoughts, speaking coldly:
“Iron Claw made the mistake of underestimating the enemy and failed to accomplish what I asked.”
He paused, his gaze again focusing on the continuously convulsing man on the ground, still steadfastly “looking” towards his direction (even though the latter no longer had eyes):
“The way this person looks at us… like looking at dead people.”
“Although this doesn’t rule out that this person simply doesn’t understand our strength or has blind, absurd confidence in the target.”
“But…”
The captain’s voice became low and gradually serious:
“I have a slightly bad feeling.”
Shadow Scorpion and the other two’s expressions beneath the masks immediately turned solemn, hearts in their throats simultaneously.
In their memory, the captain may be ruthless, perhaps cruel, but his intuition, especially in gauging danger, has always been terrifyingly accurate.
Countless times, seemingly unreasonable warnings were later proven to save their lives.
The captain contemplated for a moment, finally making a decision:
“Plan unchanged, continue deploying actions centered around ‘kill the target.’
But…”
He shifted his tone, his voice intensifying,
“During the following encounters and battles, I allow you to self-assess the target’s threat level based on the actual circumstances on site.
If things seem amiss, you can abandon the mission and retreat at full speed!”
Shadow Scorpion and the other two were greatly shaken, this was equivalent to granting them permission to flee during battle.
The captain’s fear of that unseen ‘target’ had reached such a level?
They exchanged discreet glances amongst themselves, seeing disbelief in each other’s eyes, along with a shadow of unease quietly born from the captain’s grave mood.
The only person who hadn’t received this latest directive was Iron Claw, who happened to be absent and busy returning to ‘collect bodies.’
It’s unknown if, once Iron Claw returns, the three will remember to update and promptly inform their good teammate of the captain’s instructions.
Meanwhile, Iron Claw stood by the ruined car upon his return.
The bloody smell within was still strong, the driver’s seat and passenger seat sprayed with blood, shattered bone fragments, and torn-off car doors…
All clearly indicated that this was indeed the car he had attacked just earlier.
But, what the hell is this…
