Chapter 288: Chapter 287: The Simple and Honest People of the Upper City

The rest of the job went smoothly.

The pickup: three dishes and a soup. When Shi Tiexin arrived, the owner already had it ready. He called out a greeting, and the owner didn’t even bother to check the order, simply telling Shi Tiexin to look at the slip and grab the food himself.

Shi Tiexin began carefully checking the information.

WHOOSH! Another Jingtuan gang member appeared beside him, moving like the wind. He glanced at Shi Tiexin and asked doubtfully, "Brother, what are you looking at? Hurry up with your delivery!" Then, just as swiftly, he activated his Body Technique and vanished.

Shi Tiexin realized his own speed was indeed slower than these guys. He took one last quick look, saw there were no mistakes, and swiftly packed the food into the delivery box, slung it on his back, and ran out of the shop.

Leaping onto his bicycle, Shi Tiexin pedaled furiously.

Along the way, he often saw other Jingtuan gang members pass him. The majority of them were indeed riding bicycles.

But these guys were seriously fast!

When they pedaled, their legs were like two spinning flywheels, carrying them off into the distance with a WHOOSH. Shi Tiexin personally witnessed several Jingtuan members overtake car after car just by pedaling, and his estimation of the Jingtuan members’ skill level rose yet again.

’So impressive!’ Shi Tiexin thought, not without a hint of envy. ’These people must have practiced a special Lightweight Leg Technique and undergone specialized training. Once I have enough Gang Contribution, I need to exchange it for a good Leg Technique Cultivation Technique, too.’

Like that Gorgeous Wind-Stealing Leg. It was good for both combat and work. Exchanging for it would definitely be a good deal.

’You earn more in the Upper City District, but you also spend more. The job competition is way fiercer than in Mu Yuan District. I have to work even harder!’ Shi Tiexin leaned forward, pedaling with all his might. Though his long legs weren’t enhanced by a Cultivation Technique and couldn’t move quite as fast, they still charged forward like a galloping war chariot.

Before long, he arrived at the delivery location.

Flowers District.

A glance at the time showed he still had fifteen minutes. Plenty of time.

"Building 4, Unit 3, Room 902." Shi Tiexin glanced at the details and was about to push off and enter the residential complex.

Just then, a loud shout suddenly rang out. "Stop!"

Shi Tiexin quickly stopped his bike and turned his head. An old man had appeared at the entrance. He had a Mediterranean-style bald spot, a potbelly, and was wearing a small tank top and flip-flops. He was holding a dog leash, a sizable Teddy dog at his side, and was glaring at Shi Tiexin with hostility.

"Hey, kid! No entry!"

Shi Tiexin thought the old man might be security for the complex, so he offered a polite smile and a nod. "Sir, I’m from Jingtuan, here to deliver an order."

"I know. I’m not blind, I can see that," the old man snapped. "So what if you’re delivering food? You still can’t come in!"

"Is there a rule about outside vehicles? I get it." Shi Tiexin got off his bike, preparing to lock it to the side. "I’ll leave my bike out here and walk in."

The old man picked his nose, not even bothering to look up. "Are you deaf? Did I say anything about a bike? I said... no... entry... allowed. I don’t care if you’re on a bike or not, you are absolutely... not... allowed... in!"

Shi Tiexin fell silent. He didn’t argue with the old man any further. Instead, he called the person who placed the order.

"Hello, is this Mr. ’I-Don’t-Cook-So-What-Can-You-Do-About-It’? Oh... my apologies, you’re a woman. I’m your Jingtuan delivery driver. Your food has arrived at the entrance to your complex. However, it seems the property management has a rule against letting people in. Would you be able to come down and pick it up?"

A sharp, cold female voice came from the other end of the line. "No. You have to deliver it to my door."

"Well... I understand. How about you talk to the security guard, verify my identity, and let me in? The old man at the gate won’t let me pass."

"How you get in is your problem. All I care about is you getting my order to my door." The woman’s voice held no room for negotiation. "And by the way, don’t give me that bullshit. You guys are always making excuses to not come up. I’m telling you, I’ve already asked. Our complex has no such rule! Rule? The property management company didn’t even hire a single security guard! Who the hell is stopping you? Cut the crap and bring my food up here now!"

BEEP. The call was disconnected.

Shi Tiexin was silent. He turned to look at the dog-walking old man, who was standing to the side, enjoying the show.

"You’re... not with property management?"

"Which fucking eye of yours sees a security guard?" The dog-walking old man flicked away a large booger, simultaneously jutting his jaw out aggressively. "Taking me for a gatekeeper? Are you blind?"

’So this old bastard really isn’t a guard!’

Shi Tiexin narrowed his eyes. "If you’re not with property management, what right do you have to stop me from entering?"

"Because I feel like it! What are you gonna do about it?"

’Damn this temper of mine! This son of a bitch, I—’

"Why are you doing this, sir? I’m just trying to deliver some food. Why make things difficult for me?" Shi Tiexin continued trying to reason with him. "Look, you might order delivery yourself someday, right? I might be the one to bring it to you. Just do me a favor and let me pass."

’Damn it, I’ve already wasted so much time on this old man!’

"That’s right, I might order delivery."

"Right, right." Shi Tiexin forced a smile while starting to walk past him.

"But I’m still not letting you in." The old man’s face was brazen and smug. "I’m making things difficult for you, so what? Some other day, I’ll place an order. Are you going to refuse it? Are you going to not deliver it? If you dare reject my order, I’ll file a complaint against you with Jingtuan every single day. We’ll see how Jingtuan deals with a measly little Level 1 Outer Disciple then!"

Shi Tiexin’s eyes widened as he stared at the old man before him, this man who sics his dog on people.

Then, he silently took the insulated "Jing" character delivery box from his back and placed it steadily to the side.

"Ooh, what’s this? You wanna fight me? I’m so scared!" The dog-sicker’s face was a mask of mockery. "Come on, come on! If you’ve got the guts, go a few rounds with your grandpa here!"

GRRRR... The sizable Teddy dog also began to snarl, baring its teeth.

"Hsss—" Shi Tiexin took a deep breath, cracking his knuckles. "Looks like this job is indeed harder than I thought."

Shi Tiexin decided to get acquainted with this "hospitable" dog-sicker from the Upper City. He had just assessed him; the man’s aura wasn’t particularly overwhelming. Living in an old complex like this, he didn’t seem to be wealthy or powerful. He definitely wasn’t one of those sharp-willed masters you find in the parks.

Since he wasn’t a sharp-willed master, Shi Tiexin was confident he could take him on!

CRACK!

The Lapis Border spread out as the secret realm expanded, enveloping the small area.

But just as the secret realm took form, he heard a shout. "Get him! Bite him!"

Then, with a ferocious "WOOF!", the Teddy dog actually charged forward, opened its mouth to reveal its fangs, and lunged at Shi Tiexin.

"What?!"

Shi Tiexin was shocked. He had never seen a third living being appear inside a secret realm before, let alone a dog.

"Surprised, aren’t you? Your grandpa here is a bona fide Beast Tamer! Kid, you must be new. Any old-timer from Jingtuan knows the great name of the Dog Gang! Today, your grandpa is going to teach you a lesson. From now on, whenever you see me, you’ll bark like a dog!" The dog-sicker roared with laughter. At the same time, he snatched up one of his flip-flops and attacked Shi Tiexin from both left and right.
