Essence Devouring Art
Chapter 570 - 494: [Slaughter Emperor]
The Nine Celestial Passes of Mountains and Seas.
Buzhou Abyss.
In the deep, desolate darkness of the silent void.
All Daos ceased to exist, and the magnetic fields came to a halt.
All magnetic particles had vanished. The supreme pressure of the first Dao Artifact, Buzhou Mountain, permeated every inch of spacetime, suppressing all who dared to intrude.
The depth was already terrifying.
The dark labyrinth folded infinitely upon itself. Each maze reached the peak of second-tier infinity, and even a Peak Heavenly Emperor would be lost within if they took a single careless misstep.
Of course, that was assuming they could still move.
In this region of the Abyss, Buzhou’s suppressive Power of Annihilation was enough to halt the macro and micro magnetic fields of a Peak Heavenly Emperor, causing their thoughts, consciousness, and cognitive information to fall into a silent void.
In other words, they would become a vegetable of the Extraordinary Realm.
Once in this state, they would lose all ability to resist, be dragged down by the deeper Abyss, and have their entire being ground into nothing but dust and void.
VMMMM—
But even in such a dangerous region, a figure darker than the Abyss itself was hurtling downward through the cracks in the labyrinth, diving relentlessly as if Buzhou Mountain’s suppressive power was nothing.
"Father God, the transformations of the infinite labyrinth below have become more frequent and chaotic. I have released the Mixed Lotus to calculate the patterns and plan a route for you."
Star Mother’s voice prompted.
Her incredible computational power forcibly turned the seemingly chaotic labyrinth ahead into an orderly one, continuously formulating and planning a safe route.
This ensured Wu Dao’s speed remained unimpeded.
’It’s getting a little strenuous.’
But Wu Dao could feel the Buzhou Magnetic Field from below gradually making it hard for him to move, like a mortal carrying an ever-heavier stone.
This proved that he was approaching the limit of the Buzhou Abyss that even a Peak Heavenly Emperor could reach.
If he surpassed this limit, the Anti-Buzhou Field would fail.
Even if he fully unleashed his power, he wouldn’t be able to resist Buzhou Mountain’s suppressive annihilation field.
Fortunately, the Third Extreme Dao Bell was already clearly reflected in his magnetic field ’radar’.
He would reach it after just a bit more distance.
VMM~
At this thought, Wu Dao paused briefly to equip the Primordial Magnetic Armor. First, he activated the Evil Lotus, raising his power from the Twenty-Eighth Layer to the peak of the Thirty-Second. Then, the Primordial Magnetic Armor began to unleash the Divine Image Heaven.
After his Primordial Magnetic Field was amplified, the stiff, heavy sensation vanished.
Wu Dao felt as if a great mountain had been lifted from his shoulders. Feeling light and free, he let out a soft breath, once again rotated his magnetic field, and resumed advancing at full speed.
The darkness was boundless.
It seemed as if he would never reach the end.
As he continued to descend, the layout of the Buzhou Labyrinth grew ever larger, more complex, and more varied. The Buzhou Magnetic Field in his perception changed from something thin into a viscous swamp, making it increasingly difficult to dive deeper and advance.
"So you were waiting for me here, after all."
Wu Dao’s expression was indifferent as he sensed the intensity of the ’swamp’ below. It completely surpassed the limit of the Thirty-Third Heaven, the peak for even the strongest Heavenly Emperor!
If he had truly attempted this with the combat power of a Peak Heavenly Emperor, he would have certainly been forced to return in failure. Once he entered the ’swamp’ region, he would absolutely be trapped, lost, and annihilated.
’Back then, did the Slaughter Emperor’s power also defy his realm?’
Wu Dao recalled that at his peak, the Slaughter Emperor had broken the limit of the Primordial Thirty-Three Heavens, entering the Near-Path Domain before even achieving Dao Attainment.
This proved that in the realms before Primordial Chaos, he had most likely also broken the limits and was not bound by the constraints of the Thirty-Three Heavens.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have set up such an impossible trial. Wu Dao was certain that the Slaughter Emperor was using his own achievements as the standard to measure those who came after.
’The heroes of this world are undone by empty fame.’
Wu Dao wasn’t surprised.
He had never considered himself the one and only chosen one, nor that everyone else was an incompetent fool.
Quite the opposite, in fact.
Anyone he considered an opponent, he would overestimate to the greatest extent possible, never underestimating them in the slightest.
As one of the Five Tribulation Masters, the Slaughter Emperor was once judged to be so weak he would never escape the mortal domain in his lifetime. He was arguably the Tribulation Master who started from the lowest and most difficult point in all the tribulations.
Despite this disastrous start, he still managed a powerful rise, constantly reshuffling the deck and ascending to the Absolute Peak. Every one of his accomplishments and talents along the way was enough to overshadow an era.
His self-created Taoist Scripture—
the *Extreme Dao Slaughter World Scripture*—
shared some concepts with Wu Dao’s Essence Devouring Art. Both involved a mortal body continuously breaking its limits and plundering the transformations of Gods and Demons, dragons, and elephants.
The only difference was perhaps that Wu Dao’s path was even harder.
He had no innate organs whatsoever and could only rely on a purely mortal body to transform himself upward.
Furthermore, after breaking the 100% Limit, Wu Dao had embarked on an incredible path of forging his own Great Dao.
Wu Dao had studied the Slaughter Emperor’s Extreme Dao Scripture.
At this step, it diverged from the Essence Devouring Art. Although it was similarly heaven-defying, its thinking was still shackled by the old Hongyuan System.
But that couldn’t be helped.
Even someone as mad as the Slaughter Emperor could never have imagined there was someone crazier and more frenzied than him—someone who dared to risk his life to steal the very authority of the Great Dao.
Nevertheless, the *Extreme Dao Slaughter World Scripture* was of a sufficiently high caliber.
Wu Dao had studied the techniques of the Five Tribulations, and no one’s Taoist Scripture could compare to the Slaughter Emperor’s.
One had to go further back, to the Tribulation Masters and Daoists of the various tribulations, to find Taoist Scriptures on par with the Slaughter Emperor’s.
Therefore, in Wu Dao’s view, breaking the shackles of the Thirty-Three Heavens should be standard practice for the top-tier figures of all the tribulations.
Only mediocre and incompetent people would rigidly follow the rules, go with the flow, and never seek change.
VMM~
During his momentary pause, the Primordial Magnetic Armor was unleashed to its peak.
Wu Dao broke through the shackles of the Thirty-Three Heavens, reaching the Thirty-fourth Heaven of All Heavens Emperor. The abyssal swamp below was no longer so terrifying.
At the same time, Star Mother finished planning the route.
Letting out a soft breath, Wu Dao’s mind was calm and tranquil. He took a step forward, rotated his Buzhou Magnetic Field, and entered the abyssal swamp.
This step forward meant that he was now officially ready to face the Slaughter Emperor.
CLANG~
CLANG~
CLANG~
Within the abyssal swamp, the Red-Black Extreme Dao Bell inside Wu Dao’s body began to hum and vibrate faintly, cheering joyfully like a child returning home. From the depths of the swamp, an even more majestic bell toll echoed in response.
That was the core of the Extreme Dao Bell.
Without that core, the origin of the Extreme Dao Bell could not be considered complete. At best, it could unleash the power of a Primordial Emperor Weapon.
But if the three bells were to become one, this Five Tribulations First Fierce Weapon, a Dao Artifact that had been just half a step away from completion, could unleash the Power of Near Dao to a certain extent!
CLANG— CLANG— CLANG—
As Wu Dao ventured deeper, the child and parent bells of the Extreme Dao Bell tolled with increasing urgency due to the pull of their shared origin. The child bell could barely restrain itself from flying out of Wu Dao’s body to cheerily return to its parent.
CLANG CLANG CLANG— VMM!
When the tolling reached a critical point, Wu Dao stepped forward with an indifferent expression and entered a strange space. The bell chimes that had been echoing in his Heart Lake fell silent and vanished without a trace.
WHOOSH WHOOSH WHOOSH~
The north wind howled as goose-feather snow drifted down.
After an instantaneous spatial transition, Wu Dao found himself in a world of ice and snow. Before him stretched a thousand peaks and ten thousand mountains, a vast expanse cloaked in silver.
’The Divine Wilderness again...’
Wu Dao calmly perceived this world. It was no different from the Divine Wilderness he had known. The region he was in was the Ten Thousand Peaks Snowfield of the Southern Border.
Years ago, in order to face Qi Canghai, he had entered seclusion in this snowfield for a time. He had sweated endlessly, shattering mountain peaks as he broke through to the Heroic Limit Domain.
When he finally left, he was full of high spirits. He even carved words into the mountain’s base to express his ambition.
"I shall shatter a thousand peaks and level ten thousand mountains; beyond my mountain, no other stands tall."
A faint, melancholic voice, filled with the vicissitudes of time, rang out.
At the Snow Peak Summit, amidst the biting, howling gale, stood a silent figure. He was a middle-aged man in gray robes, his red hair flying wildly. He projected no heaven-shaking aura, his back broad as he stood with his hands clasped behind him.
He seemed like an ordinary traveler in the mortal world, yet his restrained Essence, Qi, and Spirit surged like an undying sun and stood tall like a pillar holding up the heavens. Even if the stars were extinguished and All Heavens collapsed, he alone would remain dazzling and majestic, unmoved in the slightest!
Simply by standing there calmly, without needing to do a thing, his invincible, heroic bearing that had once swept through All Heavens made him the center of attention for all of heaven, earth, and creation. His radiance, which had once illuminated the Five Tribulations, could not be shaken in the slightest by any existence.
The Slaughter Emperor...
CRUNCH~
The sound of footsteps on accumulated snow broke the solitude of the snow-capped peak.
As his ink-black hair fluttered, Wu Dao stepped forward with a composed expression.
Like a small boat sailing upstream, he parted the brilliant light of the Slaughter Emperor who had swept through a tribulation, and came to stand as well upon the majestic summit overlooking the vast world.
The ’Slaughter Emperor’ showed no change in emotion at Wu Dao’s arrival. Nor was he surprised that Wu Dao could ignore his Essence, Qi, and Spirit. The two had crossed paths many times and both knew the caliber of the other’s spirit.
WHOOSH WHOOSH WHOOSH~
The snow and wind grew even stronger, whipping the hair of the two kindred Fierce Beasts from different eras into a wild, untamed dance atop the summit.
THUD THUD THUD—
The sound of the mountain peak trembling broke the silence between the two.
In the line of sight of Wu Dao and the Slaughter Emperor, on the summit of the snow peak ahead, was a red-haired young man with a face full of unyielding madness. He was bare-chested, steam rising from his skin, his muscles rippling as he relentlessly hammered the mountain wall with his fists.
One hundred punches.
One thousand punches, ten thousand punches...
The heavy snow fell without pause, and the red-haired youth, as small as an ant, was like a tireless machine, seemingly vowing not to stop until he had flattened the entire Snow Peak Summit.
During this process, the red-haired youth’s Essence, Qi, and Spirit continuously climbed. His physique grew more robust and powerful by the day, and his punches became increasingly mighty, each one unleashing a dragon’s roar and a tiger’s howl, causing the very earth and rock to shatter.
BOOM!
After an unknown amount of time, the red-haired youth threw a punch, and the final section of the stone wall exploded.
The once rugged and undulating snow peak had been completely leveled by the red-haired youth with nothing but his bare fists.
Afterward...
Before Wu Dao’s faintly flickering gaze, the high-spirited, red-haired youth used his body as a brush atop the summit. With flowing, serpentine strokes, he wrote a series of vigorous and wild characters—
"The cold mountains stand majestic, I am but floating duckweed; the vast All Heavens will one day sing my name!"
The signature read—
Hong Tu.
Spring passed and autumn came; the years turned.
Through the changes of time, the youth left the snowy mountains and fought in all directions. He charged into All Heavens, sweeping through past and present, climbing step by step from a floating duckweed to the highest peak in the world. All in the heavens feared him, revered him, and chanted his name.
But... there are always mountains beyond mountains, and towers beyond towers.
The moment the former youth set foot on the highest peak, basking in endless brilliance, the mountains beyond mountains and towers beyond towers overshadowed and extinguished all his glory.
Amidst roars of endless unwillingness, he made a sorrowful exit from the stage.
A hundred years, a thousand years, ten thousand years...
The seas turned to mulberry fields, and all things changed.
The snow peak he had once leveled became rugged and uneven once more following the youth’s fall. His former ambitions were buried in darkness by the new rocks and plants that grew over the ages.
