Chapter 32: Cyan Yang Sect
Chapter 32: Chapter 32: Cyan Yang Sect
The room’s decor was simple and plain, but clean and tidy.
Li Changsheng sat on the soft couch and took out a dusty-looking storage bag from his robes.
He channeled his Spiritual Power into it. His consciousness blurred for a moment, and a space of about two cubic meters appeared in his mind’s eye.
Inside the space were a few items and a small pile of Spirit Stones.
With a thought, Li Changsheng made the items disappear from the space and reappear on the table.
His gaze swept over them.
There was a jade slip containing the "Golden Turtle Spirit Technique," a jade bottle, three books, and two sets of cyan outer sect disciple robes.
The books were titled "Rules and Regulations," "A Hundred Kinds of Spiritual Objects," and "Annals of the Cyan Yang Sect."
Li Changsheng picked up "Rules and Regulations," flipped through it, and tossed it aside.
The book detailed the rules and regulations of the Cyan Yang Sect—a long list of dos and don’ts that could be summed up in a single phrase.
Do not betray your master and ancestors, and do not kill fellow disciples.
Li Changsheng didn’t pay it much mind. ’It’s the kind of thing you read once and don’t take too seriously.’
’In a world where an individual’s power can become limitless, can you really expect others to play by the rules?’
He then began to seriously read the other two books.
Time passed without him realizing it.
Night fell. The cool, clear moonlight flowed down like water, streaming through the window and illuminating the room.
"Huuu..."
Li Changsheng closed the book in his hands and slowly exhaled a breath of stale air.
According to the "Annals of the Cyan Yang Sect," the Cyan Yang Sect was located in the Southern Wasteland Domain, adjacent to the Wanzhong Mountains Range, and ruled over three kingdoms.
It was founded a thousand years ago by the Golden Core Zhenren, Cyan Yang Daoist.
The sect was divided into three lineages, each with a different method of cultivation.
The Beast Soul Lineage: refine demon souls and command their innate Magic for one’s own use.
The Blood Fusion Lineage: refine the origin bloodline of demons until one cultivates a demonic body.
The Miscellaneous Cultivation Lineage: a hodgepodge of cultivation methods with no concept of master-disciple inheritance, where the strong are revered.
Although there were said to be three lineages, the Beast Soul and Blood Fusion lineages were the true, fundamental inheritances of the Cyan Yang Sect.
The Miscellaneous Cultivation Lineage was merely a faction formed by the Cyan Yang Sect’s Honored Guest Elders and some smaller, affiliated Cultivation Clans that had banded together. Over time, it had developed into its own lineage.
Li Changsheng had no choice in the matter. From the moment Inner Sect Steward Lu Ping brought him into the sect and the outer sect’s Steward Wu gave him his Cultivation Technique, he was destined to be part of the Miscellaneous Cultivation Lineage.
With no master-disciple relationship, he could only rely on himself.
’This is for the best. Having a master would be more trouble.’
Li Changsheng wasn’t angry about this; in fact, he felt a little fortunate.
Although a master-disciple relationship would have saved him from years of detours, it would also make it easier to expose his Golden Finger.
Judging by the descriptions of the Beast Soul and Blood Fusion lineages, he knew that if his Golden Finger were discovered, he would certainly become a Beast Slave raising beasts once again.
Li Changsheng cleared his mind of distracting thoughts, picked up the jade slip containing the "Golden Turtle Spirit Technique," and pressed it to his forehead to study it carefully.
「Meanwhile.」
Wu Meng returned to the Outer Sect Affairs Hall. Wu Yong was leisurely sipping tea. Seeing him return, he smiled and said, "All taken care of?"
"All taken care of," Wu Meng said.
Wu Yong nodded and continued to sip his tea leisurely.
Wu Meng walked over to his side and asked with a puzzled frown, "Uncle, why are you so concerned with every single outer sect disciple?"
Wu Yong didn’t answer, asking instead, "Little Meng, how long have you been here with me?"
Wu Meng looked confused and replied, "I’ve been here with you for half a year."
Wu Yong set down his teacup, stood up, and clapped him on the shoulder. "Stay for another half a year," he said with a smile.
"If anyone comes, remember to call me."
With that, Wu Yong clasped his hands behind his back and entered the inner hall.
"Yes."
Although Wu Meng was reluctant, he still obediently agreed.
「The next day.」
Inside an elegant little courtyard.
"Huuu..." Li Changsheng lowered the jade slip, opened his eyes, and sighed. "As expected, a graded Cultivation Technique can’t be compared to an ungraded one like the Spirit Guiding Technique."
After a whole night, he had only managed to forcibly memorize the complex meridian pathways of the "Golden Turtle Spirit Technique." To switch techniques, he would need to study it carefully a few more times.
Li Changsheng put away the jade slip, tucked the storage bag into his robes, and walked outside.
After washing up, he stretched his body in the courtyard.
Just then, a person dressed in servant’s clothes walked up to the gate.
"Sir, your meal has arrived. Shall I bring it in for you, or...?"
"Come in," Li Changsheng said.
The servant followed him respectfully into the room, carrying a food box.
After setting out the food, the servant stood by and waited.
A thought occurred to Li Changsheng, and he asked, "Do you know where I can find any fetid ferns?" He then described what they looked like.
The servant thought for a moment and replied respectfully, "Replying to Sir, there are many fetid ferns growing along the sides of the road at the foot of the mountain."
Li Changsheng was delighted. He waved his hand and said, "Go and cut some for me. The more, the better."
"Yes."
The servant knew to ask few questions and do more work. After agreeing, he turned and hurried away.
Li Changsheng glanced at the dining table, a hint of disappointment in his eyes.
Although the food on the table looked, smelled, and tasted wonderful, it was all ordinary food without any Spiritual Qi.
’It seems even Cyan Yang Sect disciples can’t eat Spirit Rice and spiritual vegetables for every meal...’
With a sigh, Li Changsheng began to eat heartily.
Hmm, the food was surprisingly delicious—worlds better than his own cooking.
One could only say that he had a talent for making pig slop.
As for food for people... the less said, the better.
The servant was quick and efficient. By the time Li Changsheng finished his meal, a pile of fetid ferns had already accumulated in the courtyard.
A quick glance suggested there were over a hundred jin.
Li Changsheng walked into the courtyard. After the servant returned with another large bundle of fetid ferns, bringing the total to about three hundred jin, he stopped him.
"Alright, that’s enough for my needs."
As he spoke, Li Changsheng took a rice-grain-sized shard of a spirit stone from his robes and tossed it to him, saying with a smile, "Thanks for your trouble."
The servant was stunned at first. After getting a clear look at the spirit stone shard in his hand, his face instantly flushed red.
He hurriedly bowed. "Thank you for the reward, Sir."
Li Changsheng waved his hand dismissively and asked, "Will you also be the one bringing me my meals for the next two days?"
The servant’s eyes darted about for a moment before he said in a low voice, "Yes, Sir. I’ll still be the one bringing your meals."
Li Changsheng nodded and pointed at the fetid ferns. "From now on, after you deliver my food, help me cut some more of these."
"Of course, Sir."
The servant agreed repeatedly, cleared the dining table, and backed out of the room.
After the servant left, Li Changsheng turned and went back inside.
He opened the bundle that was on the table. It was filled with all sorts of miscellaneous items.
There were over a hundred Spirit Stones, a statue of only a person’s lower body, a Bone-Chopping Knife over half a meter long, ten stalks of Jade Grass, more than ten stalks of Blood Essence Grass, and a large bundle of Blood Bamboo Vine.
Li Changsheng took out the Spirit Beast Bag he had gotten from Wang Wu, poured his Spiritual Power into it, and focused his thoughts.
HUMMM...
Instantly, a swarm of patterned Red-winged Blood Bamboos appeared in the room.
SNAP...
Li Changsheng picked up the Bone-Chopping Knife, chopped off a section of Blood Bamboo Vine, and tossed it on the floor.
The swarm of insects surged forward, pouncing on the Blood Bamboo Vine and beginning to feed.
Li Changsheng then cut another section of Blood Bamboo Vine, took out four stalks of Blood Essence Grass, and put everything else into his storage bag.
Then he turned and walked out.
