Chapter 37: Chapter 37: Talisman Artifact, Magical Artifact, Magic Treasure

Li Changsheng exclaimed, "It’s a Talisman!"

His cry might have been a bit over the top, but the surprise in his heart was genuine.

As its name suggested, a Talisman was an object created by an Artifact Refiner who would smelt various spiritual materials and ores into an artifact embryo, then inscribe it with all sorts of runes to grant it extraordinary abilities.

More powerful Artifact Refiners could even inscribe complex and varied runes upon the embryo, linking them together like the meridians in a human body to form even stronger restrictions.

An object like that could no longer be called a Talisman; it was called a Magical Artifact.

He had heard that above Magical Artifacts were naturally formed Magic Treasures, capable of sundering rivers and moving mountains, their power boundless.

These things had been mentioned offhandedly in the "Records of the Cyan Yang Sect."

Li Changsheng didn’t know any more specifics than that.

As expected, Feng Hui was very pleased with his reaction, chuckling as he said, "It’s just a First-stage Lower Grade Talisman." He then sighed and added, "It’s just that flying consumes too many Spirit Stones."

’He’s just showing off,’ Li Changsheng thought, rolling his eyes. Although he didn’t know the price of a Lower Grade Talisman, he knew he definitely couldn’t afford one.

Li Changsheng said with a hint of envy, "Only those in the Dao Foundation Realm can fly on their own. For you to be able to do it in the Qi Cultivation Stage, Senior Brother... I’m truly jealous."

These words undoubtedly scratched Feng Hui right where he itched. Grinning, he waved his hand and declared magnanimously, "Come on! I’ll give you a taste of what it’s like to be in the Dao Foundation Realm."

...

In mid-air, a bat with a ten-foot wingspan flew unsteadily.

On its back, a young man’s face was flushed red, while a boy’s face was deathly pale.

"Senior Brother, it’s tilting! It’s tilting!"

"Don’t panic, Junior Brother. This is normal, perfectly normal."

"Senior Brother, Senior Brother, why is it diving?!"

A moment later, the bat’s body tipped to one side and plummeted toward the forest below.

You could see the two of them on its back, clinging desperately to the base of its wings, their faces masks of terror.

CRASH...

The bat smashed headfirst into the dense treetops, then slid down toward the ground.

SPIT... SPIT...

Li Changsheng crawled out of the bushes, spat out a mouthful of weeds, and turned to the young man not far away. He asked hollowly, "Senior Brother, don’t tell me this was your first time flying too?"

SPIT, SPIT...

Feng Hui spat out the dirt that had splashed into his mouth, dusted off his clothes, and said awkwardly, "Heh heh, well, I just never found the time before. Since I was taking you, Junior Brother Li, I thought I’d just..."

Li Changsheng: "..."

What could he say? He could only give a thumbs-up and praise the fact that both of them had been lucky enough to survive.

Feng Hui was still trying to defend himself. "I just wasn’t familiar with the runes, that’s why we fell."

"Junior Brother Li, don’t worry. I’m familiar with the bat wing’s runes now. We definitely won’t fall again."

Heh heh...

Li Changsheng had no desire to die on that thing. He politely refused, "It’s not that I don’t trust you, Senior Brother, it’s just that I’m worried about wasting time. If the Steward of the Spirit Field gets upset, I’ll be in big trouble..."

"Well..."

Feng Hui looked at his sincere expression, hesitated for a moment, and sighed. "Alright, then. Let’s walk."

Li Changsheng was delighted. "Then let’s get going, Senior Brother," he said quickly.

Feng Hui nodded, waved his hand to put away the bat, and looked around the woods before leading Li Changsheng in a certain direction.

After that... stimulating flight, the two grew a bit closer, and through their conversation, Li Changsheng managed to gather more information.

Four hours passed in a flash.

Staring at the seemingly endless forest, Li Changsheng grew uneasy.

’It wasn’t that he was afraid of danger. Feng Hui’s aura was only at the Mid-Qi Cultivation stage. With his insect swarm and Xiaohua, he wasn’t afraid of a sneak attack. It was just that this endless forest was getting on his nerves.’

Li Changsheng asked, "Senior Brother, how much longer until we get there?"

Feng Hui glanced at the sky. "Probably around sunset," he said. "Hurry up, Junior Brother Li. If we’re any slower, it’ll be dark by the time we arrive."

Li Changsheng: "..."

’From the big ship, the mountain hadn’t seemed that big or that tall.’

’Now he knew. This mountain was so damn big, so damn tall.’

Both of them were Cultivators, circulating their Spiritual Power as they traveled the mountain path. Their pace was no slower than an ordinary person running on flat ground.

But even so, they still had a long way to go to reach the Spirit Field.

Li Changsheng looked at the endless trees, hesitated for a moment, and said softly, "Senior Brother, why don’t you... try the Bat Talisman again?"

"Okay."

Huh?

Li Changsheng was baffled. When he came to his senses, he saw that Feng Hui had already taken out the Talisman.

Li Changsheng’s mouth fell open...

’He really wanted to scream, "Are you taking me in circles just because I don’t know the way?"’

The Bat Talisman began to glow with spiritual light once more.

"Junior Brother Li, hurry up and get on."

Feng Hui gestured enthusiastically, a welcoming look on his face.

What could Li Changsheng do? He had already suggested it. He had no choice but to bite the bullet and get on.

A fierce wind kicked up as the bat took to the sky again.

"Senior Brother, slower, slower..."

"Trust me!"

"Senior Brother, we’re too high! A little lower, a little lower..."

"Hahaha! This is how we Cultivators should live! Riding the clouds and mist, this is it!"

"Too high! Too high!"

"Hahaha..."

While Li Changsheng’s heart pounded with fear, the Bat Talisman wobbled its way to the mountainside.

The fresh fragrance of grass and trees washed over them as lush, green Spirit Fields came into view.

Soon, the Talisman landed on a platform on the mountainside, about the size of a soccer field.

In stark contrast to Li Changsheng’s bloodless face, Feng Hui was ecstatic. Even after getting off the Talisman, he was still buzzing with excitement.

"Junior Brother Li, how was the view from the Dao Foundation Realm?"

"Good... good... good!"

Li Changsheng replied perfunctorily as his gaze swept across the area.

Although the plaza was wide, it contained only a single large hall built from grayish-white rock.

The words "Spirit Field Hall" were inscribed above the entrance. It was very simple.

The people in the plaza stopped to watch the two arrive on the bat for a moment before returning to their own business.

Feng Hui waved his hand to put away the Bat Talisman and led Li Changsheng toward the hall.

The hall was divided into two sections: "Spirit Seeds" and "Cultivation Techniques."

Feng Hui led him directly to the "Spirit Seeds" section. After exchanging a few words with an outer sect disciple, they were led to meet an old man who was gaunt but had a very sharp look in his eyes.

Feng Hui clearly knew the old man. He bowed and said, "Disciple Feng Hui pays his respects to Steward Ye."

Li Changsheng followed his lead and bowed as well.

Steward Ye sized up Li Changsheng, then smiled at Feng Hui. "Don’t you work under Steward Jiao? What business do you have with me?"

Feng Hui smiled. "I am here on Steward Jiao’s orders to bring you a new disciple."

"Oh?"

Steward Ye looked at Li Changsheng, studying him for a moment before asking, "Do you know how to tend a Spirit Field?"

Li Changsheng hesitated for a second, then nodded firmly.

’Whether he knew how or not, he could just learn, couldn’t he?’

Steward Ye seemed to guess his thoughts. A slight smile touched his lips as he waved a dismissive hand at Feng Hui. "Alright, you can go back. I’ll keep him."

Feng Hui cupped his fist. "This disciple will take his leave."

Li Changsheng also cupped his fist. "Take care, Senior Brother."

Feng Hui patted him on the shoulder without a word and turned to leave.

After Feng Hui had gone, Steward Ye asked with a chuckle, "You’ve never tended a Spirit Field before, have you?"

Li Changsheng didn’t hide it. "This disciple used to work at the Spirit Beast Cage," he replied respectfully.

As for which beast cage, there was no need to go into detail.

"Ha, an animal keeper coming to farm the fields. Now that’s a rare sight..."
