Chapter 536: Chapter 499: Bugs and Gu

Xingzi Forest, Willow Leaf Hall.

The wounded in front of the tall tower were all injured in bizarre, grotesque ways. Not a single one of them looked normal.

The first person Song Ciwan saw, a cultivator whose legs had seemingly transformed into a centipede, was actually one of the more lightly injured.

Some were even more severe. For example, there was a beautiful female cultivator whose head and entire left side were still perfectly human, but the right side of her body had completely transformed into the shape of a scorpion!

If it were a human head on a scorpion body, it might not have been so strange. But she had a human head, a human left side, and the right half of a giant scorpion’s body. The sight of her was truly a visual shock.

Terrifying, bizarre, monstrous—even nauseating.

And she was no exception. Song Ciwan counted a total of seventeen cultivators who were wounded in such outlandish ways.

Meanwhile, only three Medical Cultivators were weaving among them, examining and attempting to treat them.

All three Medical Cultivators were pale-faced. The various Healing Magics they cast were clearly having no effect on the wounded.

At best, they could heal superficial wounds. As for the strange mutations, they were beyond the scope of Healing Magic.

An old man leaning on a cane also stood before the tower. Despite the late spring weather, he wore a thick fur coat. He was stooped and small, looking so ancient it seemed he could pass away at any moment.

A Child in a green robe, slightly taller than him, stood by his side, carefully supporting him.

As Yu Wenxu led Song Ciwan in, the old man with the cane’s aged voice rang out. “General Yu, is the one behind you the Medical Cultivator you’ve brought?”

Before Yu Wenxu could answer, he added, “Since she’s here, have her take a look. See if these people… can they be cured?”

Yu Wenxu nodded and introduced the old man to Song Ciwan. “Xing Lan, this is the branch master of Willow Leaf Hall in Demon Suppression City, Hall Master Sun.”

He then introduced Song Ciwan to Hall Master Sun. “Hall Master Sun, my young friend is named Xing Lan. She hasn’t registered with Willow Leaf Hall yet, but she has a Late-stage Divinity Transformation cultivation.”

The meaning behind this statement was that he was asking Hall Master Sun for an Identity Token on Song Ciwan’s behalf. However, since Song Ciwan had not yet demonstrated her healing abilities, it was hard to say what star-level token she should be given.

They couldn’t just grant her a Five-star rank simply because she claimed it. Even if Yu Wenxu didn’t think she would lie, Willow Leaf Hall wouldn’t be so careless.

So after saying this, Yu Wenxu turned back to Song Ciwan. “Xing Lan, please go take a look at these injured fellow Daoists.”

Song Ciwan acknowledged and walked over. ‘The time to prove myself has come.’

She first approached the cultivator whose feet had turned into a centipede, as his mutation was the mildest among the group.

Truth be told, Song Ciwan was also at a loss with this strange mutation and didn’t know how to handle it.

‘Of course, I should start with the most lightly injured patient to test a treatment.’

Song Ciwan came to stand before the Centipede Cultivator. He looked up at her with a cold expression. His eyes, with large irises and little white, held a kind of inorganic terror.

The moment their eyes met, Song Ciwan felt a chaotic, malicious intent shoot like a sharp arrow straight into her mind!

“AH—” a sudden, wretched scream erupted.

Of course, the one who screamed was not Song Ciwan, but the Centipede Cultivator who had been staring at her coldly.

When that wisp of malicious intent shot toward her, the small seedling that had grown from the Heart Demon Seed in her Sea of Consciousness simply hooked it and devoured it.

After swallowing the malicious intent, the Heart Demon Seedling merely swayed slightly. But the Centipede Cultivator in front of Song Ciwan suddenly shrieked miserably, as if he had suffered a tremendous blow.

As he screamed, two streams of a strange, bluish-green substance—something between blood and slime—flowed from his eyes.

Startled by the commotion, the people nearby immediately turned their gazes in this direction.

Among them, one of the Medical Cultivators walking among the wounded looked especially alarmed.

This Medical Cultivator was tall and thin, with the appearance of a young man, but he sported a mustache. His eyes were small, and his gaze was sharp.

The mustached Medical Cultivator immediately rushed to Song Ciwan’s side in a few quick strides and said angrily, “What did you do? You were brought here to heal, so what did you just do? Do you even know how to heal? Are you treating him or trying to kill him?”

Song Ciwan didn’t get angry at this torrent of accusations. She simply raised her hand and flicked out a single “Forbidden” character.

And then, the mustached Medical Cultivator, who was in the middle of his angry tirade, found that his mouth seemed to be glued shut. He couldn’t open it no matter how he tried!

The mustached Medical Cultivator: “Mmph, mmph, mmph…”

He mumbled for a long time but couldn’t get a single word out!

‘Th-th-this… Using magic to seal someone’s mouth at the slightest disagreement—is that something a normal person does?’

The most terrifying part was that this strange and infuriating sealing magic was something the mustached Medical Cultivator could neither dispel nor resist in the slightest.

He was like an impulsive clown who rushed forward, uttered a single sentence, and then had his ability to speak sealed away.

It all happened so fast that many people hadn’t even had time to react.

By the time they realized what had happened, the other two Medical Cultivators exchanged a glance and walked up to stand behind their mustached colleague.

They were both Four-star Level Medical Cultivators with Divinity Transformation Stage cultivation and held a good reputation in Willow Leaf Hall.

Startled by this sudden turn of events, the two of them had subconsciously walked over. One of them turned to Hall Master Sun on the steps and cried out in a plea for help, “Hall Master, this woman…”

Before Hall Master Sun could speak, Song Ciwan turned, cupped her hands respectfully toward him on the steps, and said, “Hall Master Sun, I have observed that the injuries of these fellow Daoists don’t seem like ordinary wounds. They seem more like they’ve been cursed.”

Hall Master Sun stood on the steps, leaning on his cane, looking frail and ancient.

The old man had a gentle temperament. He simply said, “Oh? A curse, you say? Can you break it?”

Song Ciwan replied, “Whether or not I can break the curse remains to be seen. I need a quiet environment to conduct a thorough examination.”

Upon hearing this, Hall Master Sun sighed, his old voice soft. “Willow Leaf Hall is protected by the Ten Thousand Saints Exorcism Array. Anyone returning from Wind Mist Plain with these bodily mutations is unable to enter. We had no choice but to place them here in the open space before the hall.”

After saying this, Hall Master Sun added, “Then have a good look. Shi Han, He Hong, Wu Qingchang, all of you step back. Do not disturb this young friend while she works to break the curse.”

The three Medical Cultivators looked at each other. Shi Han, whose ability to speak had been sealed by Song Ciwan’s Forbidden Character, had eyes that burned with fury and indignation.

But since Hall Master Sun had spoken, the three of them didn’t dare to argue, no matter how unwilling they were.

The three of them took a few steps back, and all eyes fell upon Song Ciwan, waiting for her next move.
