Eternal Life Starts from Tai Chi

Chapter 777 Simply Can't Learn, Pharmacist Profession Advancement

  • Next Chapter

“With so many masters entering the Demon Cave, it’s very likely the Earth Demon Alien Race has a Bloodline Sacrifice Array. Otherwise, the Merak Sacred Land wouldn’t be in such a hurry.”

The Black Dragon emerged from the Profound Yin Hanging Bead and spoke slowly.

Ever since he’d stopped studying array formations, the Black Dragon had more free time. He liked to come out for a while whenever he was free.

The Black Dragon much preferred the outside world to the environment within the Profound Yin Hanging Bead, as it was much more liberating.

“So you’re just giving up on studying arrays?”

Yang Chan asked, looking at the Black Dragon with a wry smile.

Before, the Black Dragon had been so adamant, acting as though he wouldn’t rest until he’d thoroughly researched the Bloodline Sacrifice Array, the Cross-Realm Teleportation Array, and any other Grand Array capable of leaving the Taiyu Divine Continent.

But now, he just looked like he’d completely given up.

“This stuff about arrays isn’t meant for dragons to learn! It’s made for humans!”

“I’ve stared at it until my head feels like it’s going to explode, and I still don’t get it. I know I’m just not cut out for it, so I’m not going to study it anymore!”

The Black Dragon flopped onto his back on the table in front of Yang Chan, the very picture of someone who had given up. It was a stark contrast to his usual impatient demeanor.

Before, the Black Dragon had been extremely proactive about leaving the Taiyu Divine Continent. Whenever he chatted with Yang Chan, the conversation would inevitably turn to the Cross-Realm Teleportation Array within a few sentences.

Not anymore. Now he just looked like the knowledge of arrays had completely broken him.

“If you stop studying, won’t you miss your chance if you run into one of those arrays in the future?”

Yang Chan said slowly, looking at the defeated dragon.

He himself was always striving so hard to improve his circumstances, yet here was the Black Dragon, just giving up right in front of him.

“This array stuff is too difficult! I can’t learn it at all!”

At these words, a look of utter despair washed over the Black Dragon’s face.

Heavens knew how much effort he’d put into studying those array formations, but his reward was next to nothing. This was enough to make even a being like the Black Dragon want to quit.

Of course, this was also due to the Black Dragon’s personality. The Dragon Race naturally wasn’t very interested in knowledge of arrays; they much preferred to rely on their physical might.

Besides, it was difficult to make any real progress with array formations in a short period.

“If I run into one in the future, I’ll figure it out then!”

There was another reason the Black Dragon had given up: he knew Yang Chan would never risk venturing into the Demon Cave. This meant he’d never even get to see the incomplete Bloodline Sacrifice Array, making further study pointless.

He had absolutely no motivation!

“Suit yourself.”

“I need to get back to my alchemy, so you should return to the Profound Yin Hanging Bead.”

Yang Chan didn’t force the issue, but he wasn’t about to let the Black Dragon laze around in front of him, either. He sent him back into the Profound Yin Hanging Bead.

‘He could slack off, but not in my sight!’

“No! I just got out!”

The Black Dragon’s mournful cries rang out, but Yang Chan simply ignored them.

‘That’s what he gets for slacking off in front of me. He deserves to be sent back to the Profound Yin Hanging Bead!’

‘I’ll refine another batch of Water Rhythm Marrow Replenishing Pills and stock up on more elixirs.’

‘Once my Pharmacist profession levels up, I’ll start researching the Third Bone Marrow Cleansing Pill.’

The Third Bone Marrow Cleansing Elixir was already tied to the Top Level Pharmacist rank. Yang Chan wasn’t rushing to research it; he planned to wait until his Pharmacist profession advanced. After the influx of memories that came with it, he would then try refining the elixir. His progress would be much faster that way.

…

「Nightfall.」

Yang Chan was in his study, still awake.

For some time now, he had been going to bed after midnight, staying up a little late almost every day. Besides allocating points to upgrade his Pharmacist profession after midnight, this was also because of his alchemy.

The Merak Saintess needed him to refine Recovery Spirit Pills, and he also had to refine other elixirs, so he naturally had to put in more hours, causing him to sleep late.

This was a painful state of affairs for someone who didn’t want to stay up late.

Although with his current physique and Spirit, staying up late was no big deal, as someone who had transmigrated after dying suddenly from pulling too many all-nighters, he was rather mindful of it.

‘The last thing I want is to transmigrate again.’

When midnight arrived, the number of Potential Points on his panel refreshed, and Yang Chan’s eyes lit up.

‘Pharmacist profession, allocate points!’

Yang Chan fixed his gaze on the panel and allocated all his Potential Points to the Pharmacist profession.

‘Looks like it’s enough!’

A look of joy flashed in Yang Chan’s eyes as he watched the changes on the panel.

On the panel, under the Mastered Professions category, Pharmacist had advanced from Tier Four Masterful to Tier Five Outstanding. This was the fruit of his recent labor.

In addition to upgrading by allocating points, he had been constantly doing other things to raise his proficiency in the Pharmacist profession. These included reading related books, studying the Ancient Texts the Merak Saintess had given him, and practicing alchemy.

Now, it was time to reap the rewards.

As his Pharmacist profession advanced, a vast amount of new knowledge related to the profession flooded Yang Chan’s mind.

The memories contained far more than Yang Chan had expected, covering a wide range of Pharmacist knowledge: Poison Refining, raising Poisonous Insects, preparing Special Spirit Medicines, unique Alchemy Techniques, and much more about general alchemy.

The knowledge he now possessed surpassed that of an Advanced Pharmacist and branched out in many new directions—an outcome Yang Chan had not anticipated.

Take Poison Refining, for instance. The knowledge included methods to create poisons that could affect even a Blood Exchange Martial Saint. They could penetrate straight into the blood and marrow, destroying the Martial Saint’s body of flesh and blood. The sheer viciousness of such poisons shocked Yang Chan.

Of course, the preparation methods were exceedingly complex, and the required materials were extremely rare. Most of the poisons mentioned were things Yang Chan had never even heard of; he only knew of them now thanks to the influx of memories.

He was also surprised to find methods for raising Poisonous Insects. This was because, as the memories revealed, some Poisonous Insects could be used to treat illnesses or even aid in alchemy. Since certain special elixirs required these unique materials, the knowledge included information on various Poisonous Insects and how to cultivate them.

Furthermore, there was information on Special Spirit Medicines—ingredients for refining certain unique elixirs. Their growing conditions were highly specific, and the memories also included some extremely unusual Pill Formulas, which was a real eye-opener for Yang Chan.

The rewards from advancing his Pharmacist profession were far greater than he had ever imagined.

The specific alchemy knowledge he had been seeking was only a small fraction of the total information, but even that small fraction was a massive gain for him.

For instance, concerning the Third Bone Marrow Cleansing Elixir he planned to refine—the White Jade Nether Marrow Pill—the new knowledge contained a detailed process and a list of various precautions. It was as if someone was personally instructing him, leaving a profound impression on his mind.

Yang Chan’s Alchemy Ability was already very strong; he could have succeeded even without anyone’s guidance, to say nothing of having such detailed instructions.

Although refining the White Jade Nether Marrow Pill was much more difficult, Yang Chan was now very confident he could succeed. It would, however, still take some time.

This was because refining this type of elixir required mastering certain special techniques to increase the Pill Formation Success Rate—techniques he was missing because he was self-taught.

But now, with the influx of memories from his profession’s advancement, he knew all about these techniques that would normally require a master’s guidance. In fact, he understood them even more clearly.

After all, this influx of memories held no secrets.

What he received was utterly comprehensive.

‘No wonder becoming a Top Level Pharmacist is such a major turning point!’

‘I used to think that the Third Bone Marrow Cleansing Elixir was just another Bone Marrow Cleansing Level elixir, not much different from the others!’

‘It seems I knew far too little!’

Only now, thanks to this influx of memories, did Yang Chan realize that without mastering these special Alchemy Techniques, his successful refining of the Third Bone Marrow Cleansing Elixir would have been delayed even further.

Sometimes, a single piece of true guidance can save a person countless hours of effort, or even lead them directly to enlightenment.

The difference was immense.

‘On the other hand,’ he thought, ‘now that I know these special Alchemy Techniques, once I master them all, my Alchemy Ability will reach a whole new level!’

Other Pharmacists who wished to learn these special Alchemy Techniques either needed guidance from a Top Level Pharmacist or had to rely on their own Comprehension to figure them out.

He, however, now knew the entire process—not just a general idea, but a complete version with nothing hidden. Mastering these techniques would therefore be a swift process, and the improvement to his Alchemy Ability would exceed all his expectations.

‘I’ll give it a try tomorrow and see if these techniques are as incredible as the memories suggest!’

Yang Chan glanced at the sky outside, suppressed the urge to try them out immediately, and decided to schedule his attempt for the next day.
