Chapter 294: Chapter 149: Xiao Wanqing: Whose Legs Look Better, Mine or Jinyu’s?
As the "Village Guardian," he would immediately come to help whenever any family in the village needed something done. He’d do the dirty, tiring work without complaint, asking for nothing but a meal in return. But even then, no one was willing to share a table with the Village Guardian. Su Ran didn’t look down on the old man; whenever he had something good to eat in the village, he would always invite him along.
"Su Ran, do you have guests?" Busy chopping firewood, Uncle Qin wiped the sweat from his forehead and asked.
"Yes, some of my friends are here. Uncle Qin, you can chop the wood later. I brought back some clothes for you. Come with me and try them on."
"You even bought clothes for me?"
"Yes."
"You shouldn’t have. Return them. I don’t need them."
"I already bought them, and they can’t be returned. Let’s go."
"Alright, then."
Uncle Qin tossed his axe aside and happily followed Su Ran.
In truth, Su Ran hadn’t bought clothes specifically for him. He’d just seen him wearing a tattered winter coat and decided to find a couple of warm winter outfits for him.
Although Uncle Qin wasn’t mentally sound, he had a very upright and dignified appearance. In fact, he looked quite stately. After all, he used to work as a translator for diplomats in London, United Kingdom, representing Huaxia. Of course he’d have to look the part. It was just that no one knew what had happened for things to change so drastically, for him to end up here as a Village Guardian.
"You go on in. I’ll just wait here at the door."
Uncle Qin was very considerate. He stood in the courtyard and refused to go inside, afraid the dust on his clothes would dirty the house.
"It’s fine, come on in."
"I’m not going in."
’This old man is pretty stubborn.’
"Alright then, wait a moment."
Su Ran glanced at the sausages under the eaves. They were all dried, without any holes pecked by birds. This meant that Uncle Qin had been truly diligent when he was asked to keep an eye on them. Su Ran guessed he must have sat in the courtyard from morning till night, guarding this pile of sausages and cured meat.
「Inside the house.」
Su Ran entered the house but didn’t see a trace of the four women. He called out twice, and an echo came from the secondary bedroom.
’Holy shit! I’m screwed.’
Su Ran suddenly remembered that he’d forgotten to lock the secondary bedroom from the inside. That room contained the special equipment from a Mushroom House upgrade—a wrought-iron cage, a large bathtub, and a pile of ancient ’torture’ instruments for ’extracting confessions’.
’This is social suicide.’
He rushed over and pushed the door open.
"Listen, let me expl—"
Before the word "explain" could even leave his lips, the scene before him left Su Ran stunned. PUFF—he nearly coughed himself to death with a mouthful of old blood.
Uh... this...
Liu Jinyu had been tied to the ’torture device’ by the other three women.
"You bastards, let me go right now! Su Ran, hurry and save your big sister!"
"My apologies, I’ll be on my way."
Su Ran tried to close the door.
"Get in here."
Xiao Wanqing shouted, and Su Ran obediently came inside.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk..." Xiao Wanqing had a look of disbelief on her face. "Su Ran, oh, Su Ran. So this is the kind of man you are. What is all this stuff in this room? What were you planning to do by bringing us here? Aren’t you a little too wild!"
"This is making me very uncomfortable," Xie Yiren said, looking at the iron cage with unease.
"It is a little perverted," Aina added.
Su Ran: "It’s not what you think. The things in here, uh... they’re... um... Oh, oh, oh! Our village used to have a Government Office in ancient times, so these torture instruments are all antiques! I thought they’d be valuable, so I collected them. A full set is worth a lot of money."
Xiao Wanqing: "Do you take us for fools? I’m too embarrassed to even say what kind of ’torture devices’ these are."
Girls these days weren’t stupid. He couldn’t fool them.
Su Ran: "Alright, fine, I’ll come clean. When I was renovating, I sent the wrong pictures to the renovation company. By the time I got back from my trip, they had already done all this. I’ve never even used them! If you don’t believe me, see for yourselves if this stuff is new."
The three girls checked, and indeed, everything was new.
Xiao Wanqing: "Alright, we’ll assume you’re telling the truth. In that case, let’s play a little. We’ll start with your Sister Jinyu."
Liu Jinyu struggled. "Xiao Wanqing, you’ve gone too far! Let me go right now, or I’ll kill you later!"
Xiao Wanqing: "Damn, still talking tough, huh? Aina, press the switch."
"Yay!" Aina excitedly reached for the switch to the ’bubble machine’.
Liu Jinyu: "Stop, stop, stop! Don’t press it! I was wrong, okay? You little brat, this is all your fault!"
Su Ran was socially dead.
’I really fucking wish the ground would swallow me whole.’
Xiao Wanqing: "Alright, I’ll stop torturing you. But I have to ask you a question: are you horny?"
Without even thinking, Liu Jinyu nodded. "I’m horny, I’m horny, I’m the horniest! You, Xiao Wanqing, are the purest and most innocent, okay? Now let me go."
Su Ran: Pfft...
Xiao Wanqing smiled. "That’s more like it. Aina, let her go."
The moment her chains were undone, Liu Jinyu instantly flipped.
"Damn you, Wanqing! You dare torture me? I’m going to make you regret it today!"
The two women ’started fighting’—the kind of fight where you couldn’t pull them apart, each one trying to tie the other up and torture them.
Su Ran: "Take your time playing. Tonight, I’ll tie all of you up and torture you."
The four girls: "You dare!"
Su Ran just smiled and walked out of the room. Xie Yiren followed him out.
"Yiren, help me grab a few articles of clothing."
"Grab them for what?"
"It’s for Uncle Qin, the one I told you about. He doesn’t have proper clothes for the dead of winter. I want to give him a few things so he doesn’t freeze."
"Okay."
They went to the master bedroom, where she helped fold the winter clothes Su Ran took from the walk-in closet. They were all luxury brand items, all belonging to Su Ran. The Mushroom House was incredible; for every one of the four seasons—spring, summer, autumn, and winter—whenever a luxury clothing brand released a new collection, the system would automatically upgrade the walk-in closet through the Mushroom House, updating the host’s wardrobe with new clothes.
"Is this everything?"
"I’m going to find a couple pairs of shoes, too."
"Then I’ll take these out to Uncle Qin first."
"Okay, he’s right by the door."
"Mm."
「By the door.」
Uncle Qin sat under the eaves, smoking his dry pipe and looking out at the bleak courtyard as the biting winter wind scraped across his weathered face.
The next second, a voice by his ear woke him from his daze.
"Uncle Qin."
Uncle Qin let out a sound of acknowledgment and turned his head. Looking behind him, he saw a young woman of about eighteen or nineteen walking out of the house, holding a few articles of clothing and wearing a sweet smile.
A long-lost smile appeared on Uncle Qin’s weathered face. He opened his mouth, trembling, and with a hoarse voice, called out a name that had been sealed away in memory for a long time. "Shumin..."
