Everyone Can Hear My Thoughts, and Now They're Panicking
Chapter 183: Miss Morgan Got in a Car Accident
Caleb Lowell glanced at her. "Open your WeChat."
Una Holt froze, wondering, ’Does he want my contact information?’
’We should add each other on WeChat,’ she thought. ’It’s a good way to stay in touch and get to know one another.’
Just as she opened WeChat, Caleb Lowell swiftly scanned her payment QR code and transferred ten thousand to her.
"This is your compensation." He quickly backed away, putting distance between them, his eyes impossibly cold. "And another thing—don’t call me cousin. We’re not related by blood in any way."
’Does he think I’ll accept this cheap payoff?’
’Who the hell does she think she is?’
Una Holt was stunned. "Cousin, don’t be like this..."
Without a moment’s hesitation, Caleb Lowell turned and walked into the hotel.
Una Holt tried to follow, but his assistant blocked her path. "Ma’am, please stop. I suggest we don’t prolong this. We wouldn’t want to make a scene, would we?"
Una Holt’s face flushed with anger and humiliation. After the assistant left, she let out a furious scream.
’It’s all Jane Lancaster’s fault!’ she fumed. ’If she hadn’t stuck her nose where it didn’t belong, I probably would have made a great impression on Caleb Lowell with my one-hundred-million-yuan investment.’
"Una, calm down," the female assistant said.
"Easy for you to say," the male assistant countered. "How could she not be angry? That woman made us lose a ton of footage. All the videos I worked so hard to film are gone."
’I was planning to use this to squeeze some money out of him,’ he thought. ’After all, that’s Jasper Sterling. He’s loaded. A few tens of thousands would be nothing to him, right?’
But Jasper hadn’t taken the bait, and his little scheme had fallen apart.
’So rich people can be this stingy. Unbelievable. He looks like a pretty boy, and he acts just as cheap.’
"Caleb Lowell is such a great guy. Now that’s how a rich person should act! By the way, Una, how much did he transfer you?" the male assistant asked, his expression probing. ’That money... he should at least get a few tens of thousands in compensation, right?’
’After all, those videos were the fruit of his labor. It’s only right he gets compensated for them.’
Una Holt locked her phone, annoyed. "What’s with all the questions? If you want reimbursement for your phone, file a claim through the proper channels."
’It’s not like I won’t pay for it,’ she thought. ’What’s the big rush?’
She turned to leave, and the female assistant hurried after her.
The male assistant’s face changed. "You’re not trying to back out of this, are you?"
’Is she really planning to pocket that huge sum for herself?’
Una Holt didn’t answer. She strode to her car parked by the curb. Just as she pulled the door open, the male assistant rushed forward and slammed it shut.
"What are you doing?!" Una Holt couldn’t pull back in time. Her hand got caught in the door, and the pain brought tears to her eyes.
The male assistant’s face turned vicious. "You fucking dare to stiff me? Believe it or not, I’ll fucking kill you!"
Una Holt was genuinely afraid now. While the female assistant was trying to hold the man back, she quickly scrambled into the car, ready to drive off.
The male assistant shoved his female colleague aside, then threw himself onto the hood, banging on the windshield like a madman. "Bitch, pay me! If you’ve got the guts, then fucking run me over!"
Luna Morgan had heard Clayton Lowell was in some kind of trouble and was rushing to the hotel. She never expected that the moment she got out of her car, she’d see someone sprawled across the hood of a car in the parking lot.
The crazy part was that the Ferrari’s driver seemed to have lost their mind too, actually daring to inch the car forward instead of stopping.
"Sir, get down from there! It’s too dangerous!" Taking advantage of the car’s slow speed, Luna Morgan rushed forward to pull the man away.
She managed to pull him off, but his weight was too much for her. She stumbled backward, right into the path of an oncoming car that couldn’t swerve in time. THUD.
—
"President Lowell, there’s been an incident outside." An assistant, having just received the news, rushed to find Caleb Lowell.
"Miss Morgan was in a car accident!"
For a second, Caleb Lowell thought he’d misheard. "Who did you say?"
"Miss Morgan! Luna Morgan!" the assistant said in a rush. "Una Holt got into a fight with her assistant over compensation for his phone and tried to run him over. Miss Morgan arrived just then, saw how dangerous it was, and saved the assistant."
"But in the process, Miss Morgan herself was hit by a passing car!"
Before the assistant could even finish, Caleb Lowell was already striding toward the exit.
’I never would have imagined Una Holt could be so insane,’ he thought. ’Trying to run someone over for just ten thousand yuan.’
’Ultimately, this is partly my fault,’ he thought. ’I can’t just stand by and do nothing.’
’I just hope Luna Morgan is okay.’
—
Less than an hour later, Jane Lancaster heard about Luna Morgan’s car accident.
She had finished her meal and was slowly sipping a bowl of soup. Alvin Lancaster, on the other hand, was still devouring his food. He was so starved he felt like he could eat a whole cow.
The phone on the table buzzed once, then started vibrating nonstop.
Alvin Lancaster freed a finger to unlock it and glanced at the screen, discovering that the group chat with his friends was blowing up.
He tapped it open. His heart sank as he read the messages. Scrolling up a bit, he saw a photo of Luna Morgan lying by the wheel of a car.
"Luna’s in trouble. She was hit by a car," he said, looking up at the others with a grave expression.
’How could that be?’ Jane Lancaster looked up, surprised.
’Did the car accident plotline just get moved up? Luna Morgan gets dragged under the wheels trying to save someone, thinks she’s dying, and uses it as a chance to boldly confess to Caleb Lowell... That’s how the two of them are supposed to finally break through their barriers and get together.’
Alvin Lancaster’s expression soured. Someone was in a car accident, and his sister was thinking about love confessions.
He had just started to think she was a decent person, but this cold reaction immediately threw a bucket of cold water on that idea.
’It’s a person’s life on the line. How can she be so cold?’
"Sorry, let me see that." Seeing the look in Alvin Lancaster’s eyes, Jasper Sterling stood up and took the phone from him.
A moment later, he understood the whole sequence of events.
So that was it. Because of the conflict between Una Holt and her male assistant, the heroic Miss Morgan had stepped in to save him, only to be accidentally hit by another passing car.
After the accident, Una Holt didn’t get out to help. Instead, she slammed on the accelerator and fled the scene.
Now, the group chat was in an uproar, condemning Una Holt for acting completely uninvolved. Even Vincent Holt was rushing to publicly cut ties with his cousin.
The latest message was a video from the scene.
In the video, the male assistant was furiously recounting how Una Holt had refused to pay for his phone, fired him without giving him his last paycheck, and driven him to the dangerous act of jumping on her car.
He claimed he was now completely broke, without even enough money to eat, but even so, Una Holt refused to pay him and even tried to run him over. It was absolutely vicious!
Jasper Sterling quickly finished reading and watching, then handed the phone to Jane Lancaster, gesturing for her to look as well.
Jane Lancaster scrolled through the messages, her expression gradually turning serious.
Alvin Lancaster wiped his mouth. "I’ve lost my appetite. Thanks for dinner, but I have to get to the hospital."
He stood, shot Jane Lancaster a look, and turned to leave without another word.
"Wait," Jasper Sterling said suddenly. "Everyone shouldn’t be so quick to condemn Una Holt. If you trace it back, the catalyst for the fight between her and her assistant..."
"—was that I was indirectly responsible for breaking his phone."
He looked at Alvin Lancaster, a hint of regret in his expression. "Sorry. Since I’m the real culprit here, I figured it’s best I step forward myself."
Alvin Lancaster hesitated. Based on the group chat messages, he had vaguely suspected the broken phone had something to do with Jane Lancaster.
’So it was actually Jasper Sterling who broke it? Then why didn’t he just pay the guy on the spot?’
’If he had, none of this would have escalated so badly.’
