Everyone Can Hear My Thoughts, and Now They're Panicking

Chapter 201: That Woman Is Not Worthy to Be Your Wife

  • Next Chapter

The moment the call connected, Jim Jenson started screaming into the phone.

"You useless piece of trash! How did you let this happen to the dogs?! Do you have any idea how much effort I put into getting them? I could kill you and it still wouldn’t be enough to cover the loss!"

The man in the leather jacket sounded like he was about to cry. "I tried to stop them! They had knives and clubs! They wouldn’t listen, they just stabbed the dogs to death!"

Jim Jenson was so angry he put a hand on his hip. "Knives and clubs? Who the hell is so brazen?"

"Right, you didn’t rat me out, did you?" He had to be sure about this.

The man in the leather jacket whispered, "No!"

They had an agreement: if anything went wrong, he was to insist that the dogs were his.

Jim Jenson relaxed and sneered. "Fine. They dared to kill my dogs. Get the security guards over there and block them. Don’t let them leave until they pay up. Oh, and leak their photos to the animal protection society. Say they’re dog killers who sell the meat."

They dared to cross him. They were dead meat.

This wasn’t over. Even if they paid, it wouldn’t be enough. He wanted to see them socially ruined!

The man in the leather jacket hesitated. "I think... the woman knows you. She said you told her I was hired by you to raise the dogs... but I didn’t admit it!"

He had gone to the villa earlier tonight to report to Jim Jenson.

When some guests had walked by, he had quickly left through the back door, not paying attention to who they were.

’But even so, Young Master Jenson should be able to handle it, right? He’s a capable man.’

"What?" Jim Jenson’s face paled instantly. "You idiot! She was bluffing!"

"Jim Jenson?" Jane Lancaster’s voice came from the other end of the line.

"These aggressive mixed-breed dogs are yours, aren’t they? Are you going to turn yourself in, or should I have the police come and get you?"

Jim Jenson was silent for a moment, then hung up the phone.

It had come to this. There was no way to deny it. He could only blame himself for being too careless and walking right into the trap by calling.

He tried to console himself. ’It’s no big deal.’

’So what if I raised a few aggressive mixed-breed dogs? Sure, it wasn’t exactly by the book, but thankfully nothing major happened. Even if the dogs bit someone, they’ve already been killed, right?’

’Even if the police show up, I have my story ready. It was the caretaker’s negligence. I’m willing to compensate for any damages. It’ll probably all blow over.’

But for some reason, a faint sense of unease lingered in his heart. He felt like something bad was about to happen.

Jane Lancaster stared at the disconnected call, a look of regret on her face.

The man in the leather jacket guiltily averted his gaze. "Why did you snatch my phone?"

Jane Lancaster watched him thoughtfully, then asked unexpectedly, "How many bosses do you have?"

"What?" The man looked completely bewildered.

’This is going too smoothly,’ Jane thought. ’It’s almost like this guy intentionally set Jim Jenson up...’

As Jane was pondering this, she suddenly heard police sirens wailing, growing closer.

At the same time, a cry for help came from another direction.

She and Jasper Sterling exchanged a look and quickly ran toward the sound.

This part of the park was dense with vegetation. The entrance had several diverging paths, separated by trees and rockeries.

The person running from the other direction had a face covered in blood. It was Jean Hughes.

And the person chasing relentlessly behind him with a golf club, clearly intending to do harm, was none other than Alvin Lancaster.

When Jean Hughes saw Jane Lancaster, his face lit up with surprise and relief. "Jane! Save me!"

As he spoke, he stumbled toward Jane, his face so pale it looked like he might pass out at any second.

However, Jane quickly stepped aside, bypassing him and heading straight for Alvin Lancaster.

"Alvin, are you okay?" Seeing the police arrive, Jane shouted, "Did Jean Hughes try to hurt you? Don’t be afraid, it’s okay now!"

Jean Hughes lunged at empty air, and his expression twisted into a sinister grimace for a moment.

Alvin Lancaster stopped his attack and looked up at his sister. His mind was in turmoil, with so much he wanted to say.

His head throbbed with a splitting pain, and fragmented images flashed through his mind.

Jean Hughes suddenly shrieked, "AHHH! What is this? Oh my god, you killed so many dogs!"

Alvin stared blankly at the dog carcasses in the distance. As if suddenly triggered, he charged madly at Jean Hughes again.

But halfway there, he suddenly pitched forward and collapsed, unconscious.

Jasper Sterling rushed forward and caught Alvin.

Jean Hughes looked slightly disappointed, but this was good enough.

Sensing a gaze on him, he looked up at Jane Lancaster and quickly put on a frightened expression. "Alvin’s gone mad! He’s trying to kill me!"

Jane said, "But my brother is the one who’s unconscious. Why don’t you tell me what, exactly, you did to him?"

"I did nothing! You can check the surveillance cameras, check the dashcam footage! I don’t know why he suddenly went crazy!"

Several police officers had arrived. They had personally witnessed Alvin’s assault, and coupled with Jean Hughes’s accusation, they immediately took a hardline stance and insisted on taking Alvin away.

They clearly dismissed Jane’s doubts.

Just then, the ambulance arrived. Alan Wallace’s wife and daughter also needed to go to the hospital for a check-up.

Jane gave up on questioning him further and cooperated with the police to get everyone to the hospital first.

Henry Hughes was shocked to hear that Alvin Lancaster had injured Jean Hughes. ’How could this have happened?’

He had thought Alvin was a good guy, willing to let bygones be bygones and be friends with Jean. He never expected Alvin to be this kind of person.

’So he borrowed my golf club to attack someone. That’s terrifying.’

Then again, it seemed Alvin had some sort of mental problem, which was why he attacked Jean Hughes indiscriminately.

’Now he’s really picked a fight with the wrong person.’ Jean Hughes was a true scion of a great house, born with a golden spoon in his mouth—not just some "Young Master Hughes" like himself.

The Hughes Family in Solara was furious. They sent people over that very night to hold someone accountable.

Henry Hughes sighed. ’What a mess.’ He changed his clothes and prepared to go visit the injured Jean Hughes in the hospital.

Jean Hughes was staying in a VIP room on the top floor of the hospital.

He looked weak and deathly pale. The doctor’s examination revealed multiple injuries on his body, and he had several stitches on his forehead. His face would likely be scarred.

"Father, I’m really fine."

"How can this be a small matter? If Timothy Lancaster doesn’t give us an explanation this time, this isn’t over!" Mr. Hughes’s voice thundered from the other end of the call.

Jean Hughes offered a few more words of placation before ending the video call.

Secretary Dawson looked at him disapprovingly. "Young Master, you’re just too kind. That’s why certain people get pushy when you show them an ounce of goodwill."

He had rushed over overnight on behalf of the Hughes Family specifically to handle this matter.

Jean Hughes smiled. "It’s better to resolve enmity than to create it. Besides, Alvin didn’t do it on purpose. He was probably just triggered by something... Sigh."

Secretary Dawson’s expression was grim. "That’s no excuse for him trying to harm you! The Lancaster Family must pay the price!"

"But..." Jean Hughes furrowed his brow, looking troubled as if something was weighing on his mind.

Secretary Dawson was fiercely loyal and knew that Mr. Hughes would grant any request Jean Hughes made.

"Young Master, just say the word! President Hughes will certainly satisfy your wishes!"

Jean Hughes said a few words, and Secretary Dawson’s face filled with shock.

"You... you like Jane Lancaster? How is that woman worthy of being your wife?! I’m afraid that’s... impossible!"

Jean Hughes lowered his eyes. "Can’t you just ask Father to make an exception?"

Secretary Dawson hesitated. "...I’ll discuss it with President Hughes again."

After Secretary Dawson left, the expression on Jean Hughes’s face changed completely.

’Alvin Lancaster went mad? Good. That’s just perfect. This way, he can continue to be my toy.’
