Everyone Can Hear My Thoughts, and Now They're Panicking
Chapter 215: Jasper Sterling, Are You Going to Kill Someone Too?
She walked over and planted her foot on Jean Hughes’s chest. "I told you. We’re not the same."
After discovering Jean Hughes knew hypnotism, she had considered giving him a taste of his own medicine.
But on second thought, she decided it wasn’t necessary and chose to reveal Jasper Sterling’s trip to Solara instead.
’In the end, his methods are just too stupid and low-class. If I were going to frame someone, I wouldn’t do it like this.’
"You’re too stupid, and I, as it happens, have a brain."
"Weren’t you just trying to bait me into committing a crime? You even prepared a knife for me. You wanted me to take you hostage and then stab you, didn’t you? And even if I didn’t stab you, you would have thrown yourself onto the blade."
"You already pulled this same stunt on Alvin Lancaster. Aren’t you tired of it?"
Theodore Hughes was both shocked and furious. "What are you doing? If you hurt my son, I’ll make the Lancaster Family pay with their lives!"
Just as Jane Lancaster was about to lift her foot, Jean Hughes raised his hands and grabbed her ankle.
A few drops of blood had splattered onto her shoe.
Jean Hughes carefully wiped the bloodstains clean with his sleeve.
Jane Lancaster found this bizarre and quickly yanked her foot back.
Jean Hughes stared at her with a feverish, almost crazed look in his eyes. "Jane Lancaster, I know I was wrong. Wait for me to get out of prison. I’ll come back and marry you, okay?"
Theodore Hughes was completely stunned. What kind of development was this?
"Jane Lancaster, what did you do to my son?" he snarled, glaring at her.
Jasper Sterling’s tone was calm. "Your precious son just can’t accept that he failed."
Jean Hughes looked at Jasper Sterling warily. "What’s your relationship with Jane Lancaster?"
Jasper Sterling didn’t answer. He just wanted to get Jane Lancaster to treat the wound on her hand.
Jane Lancaster had no intention of wasting her breath on Jean Hughes either and followed the nurse out.
Jean Hughes shouted, "Jane Lancaster, I love you! Wait for me to come out and marry you! You have to wait for me!"
Jasper Sterling paused. Seeing that Jane Lancaster had left without a backward glance, he turned back.
"You say you love Jane Lancaster?" He leaned down to look at Jean Hughes, his expression calm. "You’re wrong. You only love the feeling of facing something you can’t control."
Jean Hughes glared at him furiously. "What right do you have to question my love for her?"
Jasper Sterling’s tone was flat. "You enjoy playing with people’s minds, don’t you? Pushing them into extreme situations and forcing them to choose: to be an angel or a devil."
But people have a self-preservation instinct. The vast majority will choose to attack...
"Which is why you’re so successful, always finding companions who have fallen and become devils, time and time again."
"But why would a devil need a companion? The moment Jane Lancaster was truly tempted, the moment she revealed her malicious side, you would have tossed her aside like a worn-out shoe."
Jean Hughes’s expression darkened. "You’re not trying to say Jane Lancaster is an angel, are you?"
Jasper Sterling replied, "Kindness without an edge can easily seem like weakness. If she had shown even a hint of weakness, you would have killed her without a second thought."
The expression on Jean Hughes’s face twisted. ’Of course I wouldn’t fall in love with someone weak!’
"You know, after hearing your analysis, I think I love her even more," Jean Hughes said with a vicious smile. "She saw right through me and made me stumble this badly. For the rest of my life, I’ll haunt her like a ghost."
It had been too long since anyone had made him feel such intense emotions. This pain, this rage, this frustration, all mingled with a faint trace of sweetness—it all came from her.
He licked the blood from the corner of his lip—it was Jane Lancaster’s blood—as if savoring honey laced with opium poppies.
"I really, really love her so much!"
Jasper Sterling watched him, his expression impassive. "Is that so?"
Then he raised his hand and, with the fruit knife he had picked up at some point, stabbed it straight through the palm of Jean Hughes’s hand.
Jean Hughes screamed in agony.
Theodore Hughes looked like he was about to faint from shock. "Jasper Sterling, are you insane? Are you trying to commit murder too?"
"President Sterling, the police will be here any second..." Even Gavin Lynch was startled and couldn’t help but issue a warning.
Doing this now was not worth the risk; he could face charges for intentional injury.
Gavin was terrified. His boss had always been the type to seem harmless while being utterly ruthless, but while he knew how to exploit the rules, he never broke them.
What was wrong with him today? He was dancing on the edge of the law. One wrong move and he’d become a cautionary tale for the legal news!
Jasper Sterling took out a handkerchief and wiped the blood from Jean Hughes’s face.
"You shouldn’t have, you really shouldn’t have, repeatedly provoked an out-and-out devil."
He had wanted to do this from the moment he saw the wound on Jane Lancaster’s hand.
The violence inside him was like a caged beast, desperately seeking a way out.
"You don’t deserve her, but if you dare to bother her again, I will make you regret ever being born."
---
The cut on Jane Lancaster’s palm was deep enough to expose the bone. Fortunately, they were already at the hospital, so she received immediate treatment.
The police arrived quickly. Jean Hughes was taken away, and there was no doubt that the Hughes Family wouldn’t be able to suppress this incident.
"Jane Lancaster!"
Seeing the person running toward her from down the hallway, Jane Lancaster froze for a moment.
When Willow Summers saw her, she threw her arms around her, on the verge of bursting into tears. "You scared me to death!"
Jane Lancaster raised her two bandaged hands and calmly greeted Zachary Lynch. "Uncle Lynch."
After a pause, she looked at Beverly Lynch. "Miss Lynch. What a coincidence."
Then she started frantically trying to catch Willow Summers’s eye.
’Is now really the best time to be throwing yourself at me for a hug? Didn’t you see Beverly Lynch is standing right there?’
’Aren’t you afraid of being exposed? You know Beverly Lynch doesn’t tolerate the slightest imperfection...’
Beverly Lynch pursed her lips, glaring angrily at Willow Summers, her expression terrifyingly dark.
’It’s true I can’t tolerate imperfections—on what grounds did Willow Summers get to be good friends with Jane Lancaster before I did?’
’And why am I just ’Miss Lynch’ to her? This is so infuriating!’
Zachary Lynch sighed. His daughter had even dragged him all the way here. She was clearly so worried, so why was her expression so scary?
"Beverly’s just a little shy." After a pause, the old father asked sheepishly, "Could you please give her a hug too? She was terrified today as well."
Zachary Lynch had never seen his daughter so panicked. The moment she saw him, she had nearly burst into tears.
"Dad, what if something happened to her? I’m so scared."
Jane Lancaster paused, a slow realization dawning on her.
She motioned for Willow Summers to let go, then stepped forward and wrapped her arms around Beverly Lynch.
"I’m sorry, I misspoke. It wasn’t a coincidence after all; you came here especially for me." She couldn’t help but let out a soft sigh. "Thank you, Beverly."
Beverly Lynch thought she would act all smug and say "don’t mention it," or calmly dismiss it as nothing.
But feeling Jane’s gentle touch, her nose suddenly tingled, and tears welled up and fell, much to her own dismay.
"I’m just glad you’re okay. I was so afraid I wouldn’t make it in time."
It was like that nightmare from years ago repeating itself. Three years ago, when she heard the news that Jane Lancaster had fallen from a building along with an assailant, her world had fallen apart.
"You made it in time. See? I’m fine. I’m sorry I scared you."
Beverly Lynch reached out and hugged Jane Lancaster, a childish quality to her embrace.
’I really, truly do like Jane Lancaster the most.’
