Everyone Can Hear My Thoughts, and Now They're Panicking
Chapter 227: Don’t You Feel the Slightest Bit of Guilt?
Seeing the woman about to run, Jane Lancaster gave chase. "Stop!"
But the men blocked her path. "Did we say you could leave?"
Jane grew impatient. "Get out of my way!"
The men exchanged a look. ’Aren’t we being intimidating enough?’
Besides, both of her hands were injured and wrapped in gauze. Her combat effectiveness was practically zero. ’What is she going to do, flip the heavens upside down?’
"Jane Lancaster, I’m warning you. You pissed off our young master, and we’re going to make you regret it!"
The words had barely left his mouth when a figure suddenly appeared at the alley’s entrance. "Aren’t you all a bit too brazen, doing this in broad daylight?"
Jane frowned as she looked at the newcomer.
It was Gordon Dawson, dressed in a stylish tracksuit and casually holding a basketball. He looked like he was just passing by on his way to play a game at the school.
"Piss off and mind your own business, unless you want us to beat you up too!" the leader of the group snarled, his eyes fierce.
He was just one guy, and there were several of them. If it came to a fight, he would definitely be the one to lose.
Gordon Dawson scoffed, then suddenly hurled the basketball he was holding. At the same instant, he lunged forward and kicked the man in front to the ground.
When the others saw this, they were stunned. ’Holy shit, this guy isn’t afraid to die.’ Their tempers flared, and they swarmed Gordon all at once.
Soon, the alley was filled with the sound of fists meeting flesh and sporadic, pained cries.
Jane stood and watched for a moment. As expected of a former school tyrant, Gordon’s moves were fast, precise, and ruthless. He showed no mercy, fighting with a ferocity that seemed to disregard his own life. It was utterly brutal.
Before long, a group of the thugs were on the ground, crying and howling in pain.
Just then, one of them tried to grab Jane. "Stop! Stop fighting, or I’ll kill this woman...!"
Gordon really did stop. He wiped a trickle of blood from the corner of his split lip with his thumb, his gaze icy. "Let her go!"
Someone nearby launched a sneak attack, punching him in the face, but he didn’t retaliate. He just kept pressing forward.
"Let her go!" This time, someone smashed a brick against his head, but he still didn’t stop.
"I said, let her go!"
The man holding Jane was so scared his hand trembled. With lightning speed, Gordon yanked him away and pulled Jane behind him protectively.
A few minutes later, the group of masked men ran off, scared out of their wits.
They had been incredibly unlucky today. They thought it would be an easy job, but they never expected to run into someone so unafraid of death.
If they kept fighting, they were afraid he’d really try to kill them. They were just getting paid to do a job; it wasn’t worth it if the money wasn’t even enough to cover their medical bills.
Jane looked at Gordon. "Are you okay?"
Gordon picked up his basketball from the ground. The streetlight illuminated his sharp features. With a split lip and a few bruises on his face, he looked even more handsome in a rugged, testosterone-fueled way.
"You’re a rich young lady. How can you be so careless around people?"
Gordon didn’t look at her, his tone light. "Remember not to walk down such secluded alleys in the future."
Jane asked, "Why did you save me?"
"Because you’re Pauline’s best friend," Gordon said, turning to walk straight out of the alley. He suddenly glanced back over his shoulder. "Aren’t you leaving?"
Then he froze for a second, because Jane had already strode past him and out of the alley.
"Sorry, I’m in a hurry."
’Why doesn’t she play by the rules?’ Gordon’s leisurely pace faltered for a moment before he suddenly picked up speed and hurried after her.
He didn’t slow down until they reached the main road, where traffic flowed like a river.
His eyes met Jane’s. He took a few steps back, then turned and left without a second thought.
It was as if he only needed to confirm she was safe, and then his job was done—a timely exit.
A man in inconspicuous clothing walked up to her side. "Miss, are you alright? That was too dangerous. Why didn’t you let us step in?"
"Why not use a free fighter when one’s available?" Jane said with a meaningful smile. After a pause, she asked, "What about that woman from before?"
"Will is already following her. I guarantee he’ll find out where she lives."
Jane nodded. "Good."
A car pulled up beside her. The door opened, and Jasper Sterling stepped out.
"Senior, your life is always so exciting. You run into so much drama just on your way home from school." The young man’s smile was refined and handsome, but his tone was a bit sour.
Jane knew that Wayne had most likely already informed him.
"It was nothing, you’re overthinking it. Anyway, I’m hungry. Let’s hurry up and find a place to eat."
Jane quickly got into the car.
’What’s there to be jealous about? Won’t you be even more jealous when you find out I’m planning to seduce Gordon Dawson?’
Jasper Sterling leaned a hand on the car door, quietly looking down at her.
Jane said, "...Should we go?"
’Why does he suddenly feel so intimidating?’
Jasper suddenly sighed, as if he was both exasperated with her and completely resigned.
"Yeah, let’s go." He got into the car and closed the door.
In the past few days, Jean Hughes’s case had been officially filed for investigation. Seeing that reconciliation was hopeless, a furious Theodore Hughes had begun to retaliate wildly against the Lancaster Family.
The Lancaster Family was under unprecedented pressure.
Jasper was worried that the Hughes Family would target Jane, especially since Theodore Hughes had always played dirty. That was why he had assigned two bodyguards to follow her at all times.
The two bodyguards followed Jane’s orders, but if she was in danger, they were to alert Jasper immediately.
He knew she had things she needed to take care of, things she couldn’t speak about openly.
Her willingness to accept the bodyguards was already a great blessing to him. At least now he didn’t have to spend every day on edge.
"Who was that woman? Why are you so concerned about her?" Jasper asked.
"Just a blackmailer," Jane replied calmly.
In Aethelgard, the forums exploded.
[This woman is so shameless!]
[How can she so brazenly call someone else a blackmailer? Does she have no sense of guilt at all?]
[Jane Lancaster is shameless and disgusting! Gordon Dawson helped her, and she calls him a ’free fighter’?]
[Please, what was she supposed to do? Burst into tears of gratitude for Gordon? Then you’d all have even more to say, accusing her of seducing her best friend’s boyfriend.]
[She’s already thinking about it! She’s just shameless!]
[Heh, all I can say is you people are brainless. Why is Jane thinking about seducing him? It’s because Gordon is hitting on *her*. Is it not obvious?]
[Impossible! Gordon Dawson and Pauline Shaw are the official couple, they’re the true love! There’s no way Gordon could like Jane Lancaster!]
[Then how do you explain Gordon tipping Jane off before? Some scumbags can’t even hide their true colors, and their fans are still trying to defend them.]
[I’m begging Jasper Sterling to find someone else to flirt with. You heard what she was thinking and you’re still not doing anything? Are you a simp?]
[Jasper Sterling is just the female lead’s dog!]
[Is there something wrong with that Nina Jacobs, popping up all of a sudden? I don’t want to watch some irrelevant side character’s drama, get her off the screen!]
[How is Nina Jacobs an irrelevant side character? Was what Mama Knight said wrong? Just because she’s poor, ordinary, and not memorable, she’s destined to be a nobody?]
[It’s useless for certain fans to get worked up. The trial is about to begin, and Jane Lancaster is going to be in deep trouble~]
[Everyone stop fighting. Let’s just trust the priests!]
