Everyone Can Hear My Thoughts, and Now They're Panicking

Chapter 259: The So-Called Divine Medicine Is Actually the True Poison

  • Next Chapter

Last time, he had coughed up blood in a fit of rage after seeing the defamatory trending topics online.

And now, he had coughed up blood again because Jane Lancaster was seizing his assets.

"Chase, do you think I’m coughing up blood just because I’m furious?" He looked up at his younger brother.

Adrian Lancaster said, "Big Brother, don’t keep everything bottled up. Getting angry is bad for your health."

’Isn’t that the reason? Both times Big Brother coughed up blood were right after he was outmaneuvered by Jane Lancaster.’

This time, the defeat was even more thorough. Not only was his power further curtailed, but even his position as the head of the Lancaster Family was about to be usurped.

Julian Lanscaster lowered his eyes and said nothing.

Adrian Lancaster asked, "Big Brother, where’s the medicine Luna gave you? Didn’t you say it was effective? Hurry up and take it."

Julian Lanscaster took out that bottle of medicine. He was about to pour some out but stopped abruptly.

He wiped the blood from the corner of his lips, walked out as if nothing had happened, still holding that bottle of medicine.

In the living room, Jane Lancaster was sitting on the sofa. Hearing the noise, she instinctively turned to look.

Julian Lanscaster reacted as if he’d been caught red-handed, subconsciously hiding the medicine bottle behind his back.

The movement was too obvious. Jane Lancaster immediately noticed the bottle.

She stood up, walked over, and asked curiously, "Big Brother, where did this medicine bottle come from?"

Adrian Lancaster, who followed him out, cursed inwardly. ’Damn, she actually saw it.’

Julian Lanscaster’s expression was calm. "Luna sent it over. She said you had asked her for it."

Jane Lancaster replied, "Right! I was the one who asked her for it. Thanks, Big Brother. You can give it back to me, then."

’I knew it! It had to be those mysterious pills that cure stomach problems. I’ve been meaning to intercept them, I almost forgot!’

Julian Lanscaster’s fingers tightened around the bottle, his knuckles turning white. As if after a long internal struggle, he slowly handed the bottle over.

"Jay!" Adrian Lancaster was getting angry. She had already taken so much; was she going to take away Big Brother’s last chance at survival too?

After handing the medicine to Jane Lancaster, Julian Lanscaster turned and walked upstairs.

A flicker of suspicion suddenly crossed Adrian Lancaster’s mind. ’Big Brother isn’t a reckless person. If it’s life-saving medicine, he would have hidden it carefully. Why did he let Jane Lancaster see it?’

He followed him upstairs and asked Julian Lanscaster in a low voice, "Big Brother, did you switch the medicine in the bottle?"

Julian Lanscaster said, "No."

Adrian Lancaster was stunned. ’He didn’t?’

He grew anxious. "Then why did you just give it to her? Do you have a death wish?"

He refused to believe that Jane Lancaster hadn’t seen the blood on Julian Lanscaster’s lips. Yet she pretended not to notice. How vicious.

Julian Lanscaster changed the subject. "Chase, the actor who played your father in your last historical drama is about to have a career-ending scandal. Be careful recently and don’t interact with him at all."

Adrian Lancaster frowned. "You mean Uncle Lowe? What happened to him?"

As they spoke, the two walked into Julian Lanscaster’s room. Julian Lanscaster took a stack of documents from under his desk and handed it to him.

"Big Brother, you had him investigated?" Adrian Lancaster was shocked.

Julian Lanscaster said, "With these two hidden dangers around you, I could never rest easy, so I hired a private investigator to look into it."

Looking at the investigation files, Adrian Lancaster was moved. It was as if a soft spot had formed in his calloused heart.

"Big Brother, you didn’t have to do this..."

Julian Lanscaster replied, "Actually, I didn’t put much thought into it. Jay’s inner thoughts were very specific."

Many celebrities in the entertainment industry have scandals, but it’s rare for one to drag down their friends.

Even if Adrian Lancaster was playing up the father-son bond with him for publicity, at worst, they could just say it was to promote the show. It shouldn’t have implicated him so deeply.

That made the direction of the investigation clear. And sure enough, the private investigators couldn’t find anything at first, not until he pointed them in the right direction.

"This Evelyn Lowe is gay, and he’s also a pedophile."

Adrian Lancaster’s eyes widened. "Big Brother, are you saying he... toward me..."

Julian Lanscaster nodded. "All the young actors who’ve had ’dealings’ with him, he’s taken them all as his god-sons."

So, as one of his "god-sons," no one would believe Adrian Lancaster if he said he wasn’t involved.

A wave of nausea washed over Adrian Lancaster. On set, the man had often made physical contact with him under the guise of teaching him how to act. Only now did he understand the real meaning behind it.

"As for the remaining poisoning incident, I’m afraid even Jay has no clue." Julian Lanscaster thought for a moment before adding, "But you can take her to the studio. See if she can find any leads."

Adrian Lancaster retorted, "How could she not have a clue? She’s deliberately hiding what she knows."

He found it strange. Why did it sound like his brother was making excuses for Jane Lancaster?

’It must be my imagination. Big Brother has been screwed over so badly by her; he must hate Jane Lancaster even more than I do.’

Adrian Lancaster left, his heart heavy with worry. Julian Lanscaster sat alone in his room for a long time, until darkness gradually filled the space.

In the pitch-black room, he gave a silent laugh.

’How strange. I was never truly angry either of those times, yet I still ended up coughing blood in a ’fit of rage.’’

’So, can I really trust what Jasper Sterling told me?’

’He told me to trust Jane Lancaster, but I’ve only ever treated her as a tool to seize power. My so-called ’doting big brother’ persona was just a means for me and my two younger brothers to survive better under our father’s thumb.’

’Can I really place my trust in a sister who has realized this?’

The garden lamps in the courtyard lit up. Julian Lanscaster rose and looked out at the scenery.

He remembered when he first came to the city, everything felt so bright. It wasn’t like the countryside, where the pervasive, pitch-black darkness felt like it was hiding giant beasts.

The villa was large and beautiful, the bed soft and comfortable. This wonderful life felt just like a dream.

One night, unable to sleep, he had gone to enjoy the view of the courtyard.

Then he saw his young sister hiding among the flowerbeds, crying. She said she’d had a nightmare and was too scared to stay inside.

He had felt very cold-hearted at the time, thinking the little girl was just spoiled and complaining for no reason. After all, how could anyone have nightmares while living in such a beautiful house?

But he had instinctively known what to do. He smiled, crouched down, took the little girl’s hand, and comforted her, "It’s okay. Big Brother will stay with you and protect you."

And just like that, by putting on the mask of a gentle older brother, he easily won the little girl’s trust.

In the many years that followed, the returns he reaped were astonishing.

Originally, Timothy Lancaster hadn’t favored him as the heir, but because Jane Lancaster wanted him to be, Timothy Lancaster took him under his wing to teach him.

"Big Brother, if there’s anything bad, I’ll get rid of it for you," the little girl had once said so innocently.

Julian Lanscaster clutched his chest, enduring the wave of pain.

Usually, the pain would subside quickly after taking the medicine, but today, without it, it was hard to bear.

After a long while, when he had finally endured it, he felt a sense of a withered tree greeting spring.

Julian Lanscaster’s heart began to pound. His suspicion seemed to be confirmed.

’That so-called miracle drug is actually the real poison, the true culprit behind my body’s collapse, isn’t it?’

’On the surface, it cured my stomach pain, but in reality, it was like drinking poison to quench my thirst.’

’Right now, I just want to know: is Jane Lancaster unaware of all this? Is it possible she just had a vague suspicion about the medicine, which is why she tried every means possible to intercept it?’

’Last time, she took the bottle of medicine that Luna Morgan made herself, but then she gave it back to me. At the time, I thought it was a smokescreen she had put up.’

’Is it possible that she wasn’t sure what the problem was either, and that’s why she needed to intercept the medicine to find out?’
