Chapter 161: Chapter 128: Giving a Man Face

Fen Da’s face instantly soured.

Chen Xing raised an eyebrow and turned to him. "He’s right. You’re still just a kid. Go wait outside for a bit."

Fen Da grew even angrier, his face flushing beet red. But he obediently did as he was told, silently leaving the room under Chen He’s smug gaze.

CLICK. The door to the testing room gently shut.

Only then did Chen He let out a snort of laughter. "Ah Xing, I’m not trying to be difficult, but you have to follow the team’s rules— Oof!!!"

He suddenly arched his back, curling up into a shrimp as he clutched his stomach, his expression twisting in agony.

"You..."

Chen Xing frowned at him, then viciously aimed a punch right above his stomach. "What kind of spoiled leftovers did you eat to make your mouth spout such garbage?"

With that, she turned back and gently embraced him, placing one hand tenderly over Chen He’s mouth.

Then she raised her leg and delivered a vicious kick to his shin—

"MMPH—!"

Chen He’s body instantly went rigid like a fish on a chopping block. His eyes were wide open, and no matter how frantically his hands clawed at Chen Xing’s slender arm, she stood as immovable as an iron tower.

Searing pain radiated from his leg, and only then did his girlfriend’s voice gradually drift into his ears.

"I gave you an inch, and you took a mile, huh?

"If we hadn’t grown up as neighbors, and if you weren’t somewhat considerate and eager to please in bed... did you really think you could just freeload on the team every day and spout your bullshit advice?

"No matter how much of a brat Fen Da is, he took a hit for me against a mutant plant.

"And you? Hiding in the car and pointing fingers is so manly, isn’t it?

"He’s the only reason you didn’t get hurt this time because he pulled you away, right? Have I spoiled you too much? You don’t even have a Superpower, yet you dare to look down on them?

"Talking about throwing me a wedding and having a kid... Chen He, a man needs to know his own limits."

After speaking, she grabbed Chen He by the collar, hauled him upright, straightened his posture, and quite gently smoothed out his wrinkled collar.

"My mom told me that a girl needs to save face for her partner when they’re out and about. Haven’t I saved plenty for you?"

Chen He’s face was deathly pale, and bead-sized drops of sweat poured down his forehead. Piercing pain flared from his battered stomach and leg, but he merely nodded repeatedly, trembling too much to speak.

"If you think I’ve saved enough for you, then be a little more obedient from now on. Good boy."

She smiled, though her eyes were icy. "Can you do that?"

The testing room door opened again, and Chen Xing strode out. She reached up and patted Fen Da’s head as he stood by the door.

"Kids shouldn’t listen to inappropriate nonsense. Go finish your testing."

Fen Da nodded and obediently went back into the testing room. His orange-red jacket was like a dancing flame, brightening up the entire room.

As for Chen He—who was still curled up on the floor, clutching his stomach and hugging his shin, not even daring to cry out in pain—Fen Da didn’t even spare him a glance.

Meanwhile, right after stepping out of the testing room, Chen Xing heard what sounded like Huai Yu shouting from the warehouse. She hurried over.

Amidst a pile of junk, she saw Huai Yu desperately patting Uncle Zaozi’s back. Only then did the man manage to catch his breath, recovering from a near-death state.

"I... I’m still alive..."

Huai Yu didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. "Uncle Zaozi, what exactly happened to you?"

Her gaze drifted across the floor and landed on the peach by Chen Xing’s feet—it had a single bite taken out of it. She was instantly rendered speechless.

Although her earlier words had intentionally goaded him, it had only been a few sentences ago. Had Uncle Zaozi really failed to resist tasting it?

Uncle Zaozi was full of regret too!

"It’s my first time seeing something with a mutation direction of ’terrible tasting.’ I just really wanted to know exactly how bad it was..."

Huai Yu was entirely speechless. She didn’t know what to say. Although the answer was absurd, thinking about Uncle Zaozi’s personality, it somehow wasn’t all that surprising.

After a moment of thought, she pressed further. "So, do you know now? How terrible is it? Elaborate!"

At this, even Chen Xing stepped forward, looking at him with an expectant expression.

Ever since the peach had been tested, no one in the entire team had dared to touch it. Setting aside its unusual mutation direction, a Mutant Value of 27 was more than enough to prove how horrific it tasted!

And yet, he had actually eaten it...

Chen Xing’s expression turned solemn. "If you’d had this kind of courage yesterday, I wouldn’t have beaten you up."

Uncle Zaozi caught his breath. Just as he tried to recall the indescribable sensation of the peach entering his mouth—like the universe exploding on his tongue—he collapsed back onto the floor, clutching his chest and retching.

"HURK—"

After dry-heaving for quite a while, he waved a hand in disarray. "Don’t mention it. Seriously, don’t mention it. I can’t even think about it— HURK!!!"

Huai Yu and Chen Xing were left dumbfounded. The two girls shot him looks of utter disgust and took two steps back in unison. After a moment of thought, Chen Xing eventually stepped out to grab a bottle of water for Uncle Zaozi.

While Uncle Zaozi crouched to the side, rinsing his mouth, Chen Xing looked at Huai Yu, who was still earnestly sorting through the scrap.

"Little Yu, just pick whatever catches your eye. It’s fine even if you haul it all away. Don’t take what Chen He said to heart. I’ve already taught him a lesson."

Huai Yu looked up. "How did you teach him a lesson?"

Chen Xing’s lips curled up in a smirk. "He’s a man. A good beating will keep him honest."

"That’s no good," Huai Yu said, shaking her head earnestly. "Domestic violence is wrong. It’s not acceptable for either men or women."

"Is that so?" Chen Xing’s expression cooled as she reached out to pat the girl’s cheek. "You’re still young. In this kind of world, don’t set your moral standards too high, or you’ll have a hard time surviving."

But Huai Yu continued to shake her head. "Anyway, beating people up casually is wrong.

"Besides, Lin... well, an older brother once taught me that when dealing with enemies, you must be absolute. You have to pull the weeds out by the roots.

"Don’t give small fries the chance to turn the tables and drag you down.

"Sister Xingxing, you either shouldn’t hit him at all, or if you’re really going to do it, you should just quietly beat him to death. Otherwise, I’m worried he might cause trouble for you when you’re out on a mission."

Now it was Chen Xing’s turn to be dumbfounded.

Beside them, Uncle Zaozi had just finished rinsing his mouth when he started coughing so violently it shook the heavens. It took him a long time to catch his breath and turn his head to stare at Huai Yu.

"Little Yu, what kind of older brother taught you that?!"

"A really great older brother!" Huai Yu replied with righteous confidence. "And I think it makes perfect sense."

Uncle Zaozi paused, then muttered softly, "Actually, I think it makes sense too, but the penalties nowadays are severe. If she just kills people casually, their entire group will be in deep trouble..."

Chen Xing, however, burst into laughter. "How could that be? We are law-abiding, upstanding citizens. Chen He is actually quite good at handling logistics. Don’t worry, I know what I’m doing."

She paused, then added, "But Little Yu, those tea balls of yours really do look quite good. A Mutant Value of 5.3—if you can maintain that quality, I’ll buy them all for ten points each.

"Don’t think the price is too low, because if you agree, this whole pile of junk is yours, and we’ll even deliver it to your door."

Huai Yu’s eyes instantly lit up.
