Chapter 231: Chapter 198: Even Angrier

Because of the scenes in her dream, Huai Yu was unhappy all day, radiating resentment from head to toe. Zhou Qian had no doubt that if Wu Yue were to appear at this moment, she would order every moving thing in the house to charge at him! At the very least, he would end up with a broken arm or leg.

But, thank goodness, transportation was inconvenient, and General Wu wouldn’t come to their little Flower City.

Zhou Qian, who had been tasked with digging up another acre of land today, sighed. He swung his hoe in frustration while keeping an eye on Huai Yu as she planted sweet potato vines.

"Since it’s all just a dream, why don’t you be a bit bolder and dream about General Lin directly?" he asked. She just had to dream about such a jinx. Now the sun was high in the sky, and Zhou Qian still didn’t dare put down his hoe and go back inside. Tsk!

When he chose Zone 2 of Rose Mansion, he thought he was getting a good neighbor with an abundance of resources. Now, it was clear that she was the one who had gained a strong, hardworking, and uncomplaining laborer. Zhou Qian sighed and casually tapped his leg with the handle of the hoe.

"Behave yourselves. If you hide mud again, I’ll wrap you in plastic wrap tomorrow."

Not only did they hide mud, but their methods were becoming increasingly sophisticated. Yesterday, during his shower, no dirt had washed off at all. Yet, while he was sound asleep in the night, the dried mud that had been absorbed crumbled out of the crevices. When he woke up this morning, his bed was covered in dust. Zhou Qian was thoroughly depressed.

Carrying a full basket of sweet potato vines, Huai Yu replied gloomily, "How should I know? Do you think I didn’t want to dream about Lin Xuefeng? I’d gladly dream about Big Pup, Second Pup, Ke Taichiro, Kuang Biao, Uncle Zaozi, or Boss Tang! Anyone but that jinx of a man!"

At this thought, she grabbed another handful of sweet potato vines and muttered to herself, "Please, let me dream of someone else tonight! Anyone else!"

Zhou Qian was speechless.

"Don’t you want to learn about your past through your dreams?" he asked. "Even if your ex-boyfriend is annoying, shouldn’t you at least find out what happened?"

Huai Yu shook her head frantically. "Everything in this world happens for a reason. Since I’ve forgotten those things, there must be a good reason for it."

She spoke with absolute certainty, as if this worldview was something she had been born with. Coincidentally, from the moment she woke up until now, everyone she had met—whether it was Lin Xuefeng, Uncle Zaozi, or Chen Xing—shared this exact same mindset. As a result, her beliefs had grown firmer, and her worldview had completely solidified. It was only natural that she spoke this way now.

"Besides, based on my gut feeling, I definitely wasn’t happy in the past. What’s the point of keeping unhappy memories? To make my life even more miserable? No thanks," she said.

"Furthermore, what’s there to miss after a breakup? It all boils down to a few reasons anyway.

"Either I changed my mind, or he did."

Looking at her—she appeared to be only sixteen or seventeen—Zhou Qian found it increasingly amusing to hear her talk about relationships so logically.

"If I changed my mind, it must have been his fault," Huai Yu continued.

"If he changed his mind, he probably wronged me... Anyway, the guy is already such a jinx; even if he becomes more annoying, it wouldn’t make much of a difference.

"I can’t be bothered to overthink it."

Fair enough, Zhou Qian thought. Not overthinking was a good thing; the less one thought, the fewer troubles one had.

Just as this thought crossed his mind, Huai Yu suddenly asked, "If Wu Yue comes here next time, and Kuang Biao teams up with Big Pup and Second Pup, could you guys break his arm together?"

She asked with utmost sincerity. Judging by this tactical lineup, she had clearly run through the scenario in her head already. Her matter-of-fact tone left Zhou Qian somewhat speechless.

Leaving aside whether someone in his current condition could even defeat an active Garrison Officer, if Wu Yue could be taken down so easily by Big Pup, Second Pup, and Kuang Biao, how on earth did he become a Garrison Officer in the first place?

After mulling it over, Zhou Qian was genuinely worried that Huai Yu might seize a chance to do it herself, so he tried to nip the idea in the bud. "Didn’t you just say that since you’re broken up, you wouldn’t overthink it? Why hold onto a grudge and try to break his arm?"

Huai Yu shook her head. "Because he was so annoying in the dream!"

In her dream, Huai Yu had gone through so much trouble to help him down to the foot of the mountain that she didn’t even get to pick her mushrooms. In the end, the guy, looking all gentle and handsome, just used his pretty face to coax her. Not only did he waste her entire morning, but when he said he wanted to thank her at noon, he merely waited for his classmates to arrive so they could all eat together...

That was it! Nothing else! Huai Yu was absolutely furious!

She was clearly short on money—anyone with eyes could see that! If she weren’t broke, what teenage girl would go up the mountain all by herself early in the morning to pick mushrooms and wild vegetables! That was the wilderness! She had been running around every day until her face was tanned dark. But just because she was too embarrassed to say it out loud, the guy vaguely brushed it off as expressing his gratitude!

She complained to Zhou Qian, "Do I look like the kind of person who doesn’t care about money? Even if he thought directly giving me three or five hundred was insulting, buying me a gift would have worked, right?

"Even gold would have been fine; it’s easy to sell!

"I practically carried half his body weight and supported him down the mountain for two whole hours!

"Is my time worth nothing?"

Huai Yu furrowed her brows tightly and came to a vicious conclusion: "Cheapskate! Poser!"

Zhou Qian was speechless.

"Ahem."

He had wanted to say something, but after thinking it over, he didn’t know what to say, so he simply shut his mouth. After a long pause, he finally suggested, "Maybe... the dream is like a TV series, and the real reward comes later?"

Huai Yu wasn’t buying it. "Are you kidding me? Even if I wasn’t his savior, I still helped him out, didn’t I?

"Does he really need to string me along and make me wait before giving a reward?"

Zhou Qian didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. "Alright, alright. If it makes you this mad, just stop thinking about it. Treat it as doing a good deed without expecting anything in return."

"But I do expect something!"

Huai Yu grew anxious. "If I were well-off, I could do good deeds every day without asking for anything in return.

"But the ’me’ in the dream wasn’t! I had no money, I had nothing, and I wasted half a day of making a living just to save someone. How could I afford to not expect anything in return?

"Even if I didn’t want a reward, taking me out for a nice private meal would have been the bare minimum, right?"

And what was the result?

The Huai Yu in the dream was so unbelievably noble. After helping the guy down to the restaurant at the foot of the mountain, she busied herself buying medicine, cleaning his wounds, pouring water, and buying him food. And what did the young Wu Yue do? He just looked at her sheepishly and spouted things like ’Thank you,’ ’Sorry for the trouble,’ and ’I don’t know what I’d do without you’...

He didn’t pull out a single cent!

Huai Yu was both angry and upset. "Idiot."

But the most infuriating part was when the dream-version of her prepared to leave, the guy shyly took out his phone. Instead of pulling up a payment QR code, he brought up his WhatsApp!

A faint smile rippled across his fair and handsome face. "Could... we exchange contacts?"

And for once, the young Huai Yu actually showed some backbone. When she spoke, she asked, "The medicine today was 87, and the water and breakfast were 15. Can you settle the bill?"

For the current Huai Yu, this should have been a satisfying moment, but seeing the shock and embarrassment on the guy’s face made her even more furious! But being angry was useless. It was a dream, and she was watching the past.

So, all she could do was watch helplessly as Wu Yue blushed and said, "I’m sorry, I forgot... So, could you add me as a friend?"
