Kaelen stood before the Governor’s limp body that didn’t disappear this time, as the World Authority Fragment slowly peeled away to give way to reality.

Before Kaelen could reply, he heard a commotion break out outside the study.

...

The guards who were lined up in the hallway across from the Governor’s study were still reliving the encounter after surviving yet another encounter with the young miss Elizabeth. But before they could fully relax, a figure suddenly rounded the corner and began marching towards the Governor’s study.

The guards frowned as their gaze immediately fell on the intruder, but the moment they saw who it was, a short blonde girl with twin ponytails, their hearts dropped.

They immediately drew their weapons at the girl. "Stop right there. Who are you?" As the guard barked, more men immediately poured out from behind the girl and surrounded her, before those men became confused as to why they were surrounding the young miss.

Elizabeth tilted her head to glance at the men surrounding her, not a single shred of fear on her face. "What the hell do you think you’re doing?" She asked coldly.

The ones that had just arrived exchanged glances with the ones that had called for backup, while the ones that had called for backup exchanged glances amongst themselves.

"Young miss Elizabeth just passed here now and went into the Governor’s study. So who are you?"

Elizabeth scoffed in cold disbelief. "Is this some kind of joke? If y’all don’t kneel and bow to me till I’m satisfied, I’ll have y’all crucified by the next morning."

The guards felt a chill run down their spines, because the young miss’s favourite way of punishing servants who got on her bad side was by crucifying them and watching their backs get peeled with a horsewhip.

But then, if the young miss was here... who was inside?

They immediately turned towards the Governor’s study and, without knocking, kicked the door open and stormed inside like a raid team.

Only for them to pause in their steps... because there was no one there.

Not the Governor. Not the imposter.

"We’re under attack!"

...

A lone soldier was calmly moving away from the Governor’s estate when the bells and sirens began ringing across the stronghold and the entire place fell into chaos. But this soldier didn’t stop moving away from the chaos like whatever was happening had nothing to do with him.

When he suddenly paused in his steps. Not because the streets were now crawling with soldiers who charged towards the estate, but because amidst the chaos, he felt someone’s gaze on his back.

The kind that told him that they knew something.

Kaelen calmly turned to trace the malicious gaze with his eyes, only for him to see a strange young man standing behind a closed window at the top floor of the Governor’s manor, calmly staring at him without making a move.

Kaelen didn’t recognize who the young man was and decided to peer into his evolution realm to ascertain his level of strength, only to be met with nothing.

This made his brows furrow in surprise and disbelief, because he wasn’t met with nothing because the man didn’t have an evolution realm. Rather, it was the other way around.

Just the way Kaelen couldn’t tell the evolution realm of the Divine-Tier Titan boss in the tower dungeon or the Nightmare Shadow in the wastland, he couldn’t tell the evolution realm of this man because he was at a realm where Kaelen’s eyes were too weak to peer.

Kaelen frowned.

How could there possibly be such a person alive?

The man could pose a threat to Kaelen, but chose not to. So Kaelen decided to ignore him for the time being till he got out safely without having to blow up the entire stronghold and its residents.

After all, his enemy wasn’t humanity.

He simply wasn’t fighting for them.

At that moment, a heavy rain began pouring without warning, but luckily, this soldier had a trench coat. So Kaelen pulled up his hood and turned around, slowly blending into the chaotic streets of the stronghold before disappearing.

Meanwhile, the man who stood by the window calmly followed him with his eyes, his expression neutral, when the door behind him swung open and the maidservant had just stepped in with a tray and dropped it from shock on seeing the man standing by the window.

The man slowly turned to face the maidservant.

"Y-Young master, is that you? You’re awake." The maidservant could hardly coordinate herself in sheer shock.

"How long have I been asleep?" The man calmly asked.

"W-What? T-Ten years. You’ve been unconscious and in a vegetative state for ten years since you snuck into your father’s beta-test gaming pod as a boy."

"Ah, I see..." the man mumbled as his lips curled up in a faint, embarrassed smile. "Where’s father?"

The maidservant remained silent for a moment.

"Is he dead?" The man asked bluntly.

The maidservant visibly stiffened. "I hate to be the one to break the bad news to you, but the stronghold is currently facing a dire crisis, and your father... might be dead. After all, he crossed paths with Kaelen Cross." The maidservant mumbled the last part to herself.

"D-Did you just say Kaelen Cross?" The man suddenly asked excitedly as he ran back to his window to look out into the streets. "Ahhh," he exclaimed softly. "I just saw a man wearing a soldier’s skin outside. Do you think it was Kaelen Cross?" He turned to the stunned maidservant.

Before she could reply, his face was already plastered against the window. "I didn’t realize I just met a celebrity, and he even acknowledged me too. Aish, I could’ve asked for an autograph." He rambled to himself with bright eyes and a malicious smile.

"Y-Young master, do you realize that it was this man who might’ve murdered your father?" the maidservant asked in confusion on seeing the man’s strange reaction. But her question made the man go quiet as he stared out the window.

He slowly tilted his head just enough to look at the maidservant, who stumbled back subconsciously.

"Of course, he’ll have to pay for his crimes if it turns out he truly murdered my father..." he said with a icy expression, before his expression immediately changed. "But that’ll come after the autograph. Ahaha." He laughed sheepishly as he scratched the back of his head with a beaming smile.
