Chapter 1078: Confrontation [3]
The beast kin didn't finish the sentence. He didn't need to.
Everyone present understood. People at that level weren't merely famous. They represented the absolute pinnacle below the Demigod Realm.
Offending one of them over careless words wasn't something any ordinary Rank Four awakener wished to experience.
The horned giant laughed awkwardly before raising both hands.
"Fine, fine. I'll keep my mouth shut."
Another awakener suddenly spoke.
"…Forget those two." He gestured toward the direction the crimson-haired man had vanished. "Who was the third one?"
Several nearby awakeners exchanged glances. After a moment, an elderly man with crystal-like skin slowly spoke.
"If I'm not mistaken, he should be from the Phoenix Race."
"The Phoenix Race?"
Quite a few people revealed surprised expressions. The old man nodded. Several awakeners followed suit.
"That makes sense."
"No wonder his presence felt so oppressive."
"The Phoenix Race has always been among the highest races."
Someone quietly added,
"If he really is a Phoenix…" "…then he should also be one of those monsters standing just beneath the Demigod Realm."
Silence followed once again.
Eventually, another person looked in the direction where the younger female angel had disappeared.
"…What about her? The younger angel. She only had three pairs of wings."
Several expressions immediately became strange.
"That's true."
"I noticed that too."
"Three pairs…"
"Shouldn't that only correspond to Rank Three?"
Another person slowly nodded.
"It should. Yet she entered the Fourth Layer."
Though no one spoke after that, they all knew the implication. If she had been placed here despite only possessing three pairs of wings, then she possessed some other qualification they weren't aware of.
Though they hadn't been in the Origin Battlefield for long, for something connected to the Origin Will and involving five percent of the universe's population, it shouldn't be a place where loopholes appeared casually.
If someone like her had been placed here, there was almost certainly a reason.
Still, compared to the other three, the female angel simply wasn't nearly as eye-catching.
Lord Seraphiel's reputation had echoed throughout countless realms for centuries.
Fairy Sword Immortal Qing Yue had once challenged seven peak Rank Four cultivators in succession without suffering defeat.
Even the suspected Phoenix expert possessed an overwhelming aura that naturally commanded attention. Standing beside those three, the young female angel inevitably faded into the background.
If they had known that the youth who had just pushed them all back by himself was also Rank Three, only the heavens knew what their reaction would be.
*
Michael's expression darkened as he sensed the presences behind him. The three brightest were still chasing.
There was also a smaller presence among them now, for some reason. Its aura was weaker than the other three, but it followed closely behind.
"Persistent bastards…"
Michael cursed under his breath.
His figure flickered again, vanishing through folded space before reappearing dozens of miles away. Yet almost immediately, those terrifying presences adjusted their direction and continued closing in.
The Heavenly Enlightenment Incense in his hand still glowed with a faint purple light. Michael glanced down at it.
From what he had observed so far, the radiance was indeed weakening, but the process was far too slow. At this rate, it would probably take around twenty minutes before the glow faded enough for him to place it into his storage space.
Twenty minutes. Under normal circumstances, that was nothing. Now, it felt absurdly long.
Michael wasn't sure whether the other treasures that had fallen from the sky followed the same rule. Perhaps they did. Perhaps they didn't. However, this incense had been the brightest among all the lights that descended.
It was probably the highest grade treasure among them. In that case, its restriction being stronger made sense.
Unfortunately, understanding the reason did nothing to improve Michael's mood. He could only deal with it.
Putting aside the thought of dropping it entirely, if this continued, he might actually have to stop and defend the treasure directly.
Michael wasn't exactly afraid. But he also wasn't fully confident. Those three were not ordinary Rank Four awakeners. Their presences alone proved that much.
If he truly fought them, victory was uncertain. What Michael wanted to avoid was loss. Perhaps victory was still possible if he exposed enough of his cards, but the price would be unknown.
In fact, he did possess a method to launch a terrifying counterattack right now. The Mausoleum of Endless Dominion's third effect.
After accumulating energy for so long, the legendary-grade treasure could unleash a spiritual attack powerful enough to threaten even peak Rank Four existences.
If Michael had been stronger himself and could supply more energy to the Mausoleum, killing one of them might not have been impossible.
But Michael rejected the thought almost instantly. He was unwilling to reveal more about the Mausoleum unless absolutely necessary.
Even now, aside from when he had first obtained the treasure, Michael had never summoned its true body from his soul. The fewer people who understood the nature of his legendary-grade item, the better.
If its true ability were exposed here, Michael dared to say the entire Fourth Layer would be drawn to him like moths to flame.
Michael's gaze flickered coldly.
"This incense is already troublesome enough."
In fact, Michael also had a feeling this would be the last time in a long while that obtaining a treasure like this would go so smoothly.
If these falling lights were not one-time rewards, then once everyone understood what could be gained from them, the next battle would become far bloodier.
Treasures capable of aiding comprehension were too attractive, especially to these centuries-old peak Rank Four superpowers. Many of them had probably been stuck before the Demigod threshold for years.
To such people, an object that could increase comprehension represented hope, and hope was often enough to drive people to madness.
Just look at him. He was still young. He had only cultivated for a little over a year. Yet even he couldn't bear to throw away the incense despite being chased by several level 100 monsters.
