Chapter 1084: Unique Skill and Origin Battlefield Compensation [1]
Compared to such a battle, two Rank Three geniuses chasing each other across the Fourth Layer simply wasn't worth much attention.
One beastkin chuckled.
"Let the children play." His gaze never left the battlefield. "What interests me is that treasure."
It was the same for many of them.
While most didn't know exactly what the treasure was, and quite a few hadn't even witnessed the moment it descended, they waited in anticipation, with more than a few looking as though they wanted to do far more than just watch.
This was how the supernatural world worked. Where there was treasure, there were people. It didn't matter what it was. If it looked valuable enough, there would be a battle over it.
Compared to such a thing, even a Rank Three human somehow entering the Fourth Layer no longer seemed particularly important. If he survived, there would be plenty of time to investigate him later.
If he died, then he had simply been another genius who failed to grow. The universe had never lacked such people.
If they had known it was Michael who had summoned the creature currently holding its own against three peak Rank Four powerhouses, their thoughts would have been very different.
Including those engaged in the fight, everyone who saw the undead High Drake only perceived it as a powerful combatant that had appeared from nowhere.
Just as one would naturally assume only Rank Four beings would be present in the Fourth Layer, even if the High Drake emitted an aura somewhat similar to that of an undead, no one would immediately think such a powerful creature had been summoned by a Rank Three human.
The gap was simply too vast.
It was also why most of them assumed Michael was the one in danger compared to the angel.
Meanwhile, at the center of the battlefield, the High Drake's enormous claws collided head-on with the phoenix's burning talons.
BOOM!!
The shockwave spread for hundreds of miles. Entire mountain ranges collapsed. The surrounding void shattered repeatedly before rapidly repairing itself under the Origin Battlefield's terrifying laws.
The phoenix was forced backward several hundred meters before stabilizing. Its golden eyes burned with unconcealed fury as they remained fixed upon the colossal drake.
"Tch."
It clicked its tongue in annoyance before speaking toward Lord Seraphiel while dodging another torrent of black flames.
"Should we have let that human run off?" Its voice carried obvious dissatisfaction. "This filthy half-breed lizard is clearly acting together with him."
There wasn't the slightest attempt to conceal the disgust in its tone.
The Phoenix Race had never enjoyed good relations with dragonkind.
True Dragons were one thing. Sub-dragons were another entirely.
In the phoenix's eyes, they were merely impure creatures possessing diluted dragon blood.
Even though the transformed High Drake was currently powerful enough to contend against all three of them simultaneously, that did absolutely nothing to lessen its disdain.
Lord Seraphiel calmly blocked another sweeping claw that pushed him back several kilometers before rushing back in an instant and answering without looking toward the phoenix.
"It doesn't matter." His tone was indifferent. "The treasure is no longer on the human."
His sapphire eyes briefly glanced toward the High Drake's abdomen, where the faint purple radiance still shone through layers of flesh.
"It is inside that creature."
He paused briefly to dodge another attack before continuing. On the other side, another sword collided against the drake's neck as Fairy Sword Immortal Qing Yue silently continued attacking without participating in the conversation.
"The human is indeed somewhat special. But Lady Aurelia will have no problem dealing with him."
Lord Seraphiel stopped there, seemingly unwilling to continue speaking. After all, even if they successfully extracted the treasure from the High Drake, the real battle would only begin afterward.
There were already hundreds of Rank Four awakeners hiding nearby. Every one of them was waiting, many patiently preparing to become the final fisherman.
Lord Seraphiel had no intention of discussing strategy with the phoenix. The two of them weren't allies. At best, they were temporary competitors pursuing the same objective.
The phoenix also had no intention of continuing the topic. It had merely been worried that after chasing the human for so long, something unexpected might occur.
After thinking about it again, its concern gradually faded.
"Perhaps I was overthinking it." It snorted coldly. "That human may be extraordinary…" "But there should be a limit to what a Rank Three can accomplish."
Its enormous eyes swept across the battlefield.
"So many people are watching. Even if he somehow escaped, it isn't as though he could steal the treasure a second time."
That was common sense to many of the Rank Four awakeners in the surroundings. No matter how monstrous one was, reality remained reality. There were too many Rank Four experts present.
If the treasure left the High Drake, not even the three of them could guarantee they would obtain it with so many people competing for the same thing.
How could a mere Rank Three possibly succeed? The very thought didn't make sense when even they themselves weren't confident.
It was also the reason why, although they had been exchanging attacks with the High Drake, not one of them had actually gone all out. After chasing Michael across half the region, they had already figured out several things.
Unless the human was stupid, something about that treasure was preventing him from storing it. If he could have stored it, he wouldn't have left something broadcasting his location out in the open.
They suspected the issue was with the treasure itself, which was why they were also waiting for the strange purple radiance surrounding it to disappear completely, since the broadcasting effect also weakened as time passed.
Until then, there was little point in exhausting themselves. The High Drake was certainly troublesome. But it wasn't their true objective. Their objective was what lay inside its stomach.
As the three fought, the High Drake suddenly folded its wings. Its gigantic body dropped from the sky like a falling mountain.
