Extraordinary Demon King Soldier
Chapter 1521 - 1518: Boss Battle Begins
Fang Wushang actually unleashed an eight-hit combo. It was Ye Qiu's first time seeing sword strikes this fast; it felt like some Swordswoman's move, though he didn't know the name.
Even against hard-armor-series Magical Beasts, the worst match-up for a rapier, Fang Wushang's sword tip still precisely hit the enemy. That alone showed her sword speed was so fast it was hard to even estimate.
When Fang Wushang attacked, that gorgeous figure of hers made Ye Qiu stare, dumbfounded. Ye Qiu thought to himself, this must be what people mean by "sword dance"—exactly the scene in front of his eyes.
It was like Fang Wushang had eyes on her back; she suddenly shouted to the dazed Ye Qiu, "Ye Qiu, time to switch!"
"Oh, o-okay..."
Ye Qiu hurriedly grabbed his sword and reset his stance...
"Dong, finish him!"
A gust of blue wind blew out from the blade. As Ye Qiu swung the sword, the Magical Beast was instantly frozen by the Profound Celestial Ice Sword, then shattered into countless ice particles.
All along the way, countless high-tier Magical Beasts were on guard in the forest. It looked like the final boss should be up ahead, and the other families, in order to reach the boss first, were actually ignoring the Magical Beasts in the forest, hiding their presence so the beasts wouldn't notice them.
That was one way to do it, but it was obvious those people were just doing it to steal the credit.
Ye Qiu checked out of the corner of his eye that Fang Wushang had already retreated a fair distance, then tightened his grip on the sword in his right hand and launched a fierce assault on the enemy. Basically, against Demon Thralls-level Magical Beasts, Ye Qiu could drop one with a single sword, but that was still too much of a time waste. Every second wasted meant one more acquaintance might get killed by a beast.
Ye Qiu planned to directly carve out a straight path to the tower.
"Dong, can we?"
Dong seemed to understand Ye Qiu's intention. The blade's usual pale blue glow deepened into dark blue, even tinged with purple. Fang Wushang more or less realized Ye Qiu was about to use a wide-area move and consciously stood behind him.
"Absolute Zero!"
As Ye Qiu's voice fell, pure white spread out from under his feet. That whiteness rapidly extended forward, and within seconds the forest was split in half by a white line. Everything in front of that whiteness was Magical Beasts frozen solid.
Ye Qiu didn't give Fang Wushang any time to marvel. He scooped her up at blazing speed and slid forward along the ice road.
When they reached the upper level of the tower, sure enough, the ones who'd arrived ahead of them were already fighting. Looking at the corpses scattered everywhere, Ye Qiu felt a bit of regret, but this was the result of overestimating themselves. They could only blame their own lack of strength.
One of them used his weapon to parry and rebound the boss's attack, then began charging up a big move for a decisive clash. He opened with a downward slash from the upper right diagonal, then rotated his wrist and brought the blade back up on the same swing path used in golf. Every time the sword tip struck that skeletal body, a faint blue light would flash.
Ye Qiu noticed something was wrong, but he wasn't sure exactly what, so he didn't rush in.
The boss originally raised its shield to block the high slash, but that guy suddenly ducked in and slammed its left shoulder instead. Then he followed up with a horizontal right slash at the off-balance skeleton's hollow torso, and in the very next instant rammed in with his right shoulder again.
This was to cover the openings created by repeatedly using high-power attacks, using body tackles in the classic "rush-and-bash" style against monsters.
After all these attacks, under normal circumstances the boss's HP should have dropped sharply, putting it on the verge of death. The remaining people threw everything they had into the fight, unleashing every move they knew. Their blades traced glowing arcs and landed accurately on the boss.
But the boss's bones were extremely hard, probably as tough as Mithril Crystal or even tougher, so trying to chop the boss to pieces was not a smart plan.
While Ye Qiu calmly analyzed the situation, the people around them seemed to have run out of strength.
As the skull cap flew skyward, the body left on the ground scattered like a puppet with its strings cut. The boss went down?
"Nice work!"
Someone shouted when they saw that.
No. No. Something feels off. Ye Qiu's instincts screamed that something was wrong.
"Don't relax, pick up your swords, now!"
Some people had already relaxed and sheathed their swords when they saw the boss fall.
"He's not dead yet!"
So far they'd encountered a total of four monsters, and they had practically wiped them out without taking any real damage. Unlike Ye Qiu, who favored chaining Great Skills in battle, Fang Wushang's specialty was stacking small and medium Sword Skills into rapid strings of attacks to put heavy strain on the Magical Beasts.
But if this Magical Beast just died like that, it would be even weaker than the cannon fodder we just fought.
That blue light—Ye Qiu remembered the faint blue glow that flashed on the spots where the boss was hit.
"He's been absorbing your power. His ability is absorption!"
The crowd that had already started cheering didn't pay Ye Qiu's warning any attention, thinking he was joking to scare them.
I, Ye Qiu, advanced carefully through the colonnaded corridor. With their help, I wasn't worried about being ambushed, but the footsteps echoing on the hard stone floor still made my nerves taut.
I studied the corridor under the pale blue light more closely.
The boss was resurrecting!
You could see that while the lower half of this structure was built of reddish-brown sandstone, the higher you climbed, the more the material turned into damp, bluish stone. The pillars were covered in ornate yet unsettling carvings, their bases sunk into water channels lower than the floor.
Overall, the building felt increasingly "heavy."
"Aaaahhhhhhh..."
Sure enough, the boss was back!
"Waaahhhhh..."
Screams kept echoing.
"Wushang! Dong! Our turn!"
The boss's bones had fully regenerated, and its whole body had turned a transparent blue.
"Now this is what a boss should look like!" Ye Qiu shouted like a battle cry as he charged the boss.
"Ice Seal Barrier!"
The boss was attacking people who no longer had the strength to run. Just as its breath was about to reach one of them, Ye Qiu cast a Barrier, cutting those people off from the boss.
Inside the Barrier, only the boss, Ye Qiu, and Fang Wushang remained.
Seeing that the others were safe, Fang Wushang started her assault on the boss.
"Gorgeous Waltz!" Fang Wushang went straight into a big finisher, whipping her rapier at blinding speed while using Magic to create solid clones. Each clone darted at the boss, stabbing like it was dancing a waltz.
Just like the move's name, it really was magnificently gorgeous.
