Chapter 119: The Cosmic Harvest

The starry void surrounding them suddenly shifted.

The Void God raised a formless hand, and the dark glass beneath Helion’s feet transformed. A colossal, three-dimensional hologram of a vibrant green and blue planet materialized in the center of the astral space.

Helion watched closely.

Suddenly, massive spatial rifts tore through the atmosphere of the holographic planet.

Gargantuan, biological horrors spilled out of the rifts. They were not ships of metal and steel. They were terrifying, multi-limbed alien monstrosities.

They physically wrapped their massive, fleshy appendages around the entire globe. They dug their limbs deep into the planet’s core, devouring the life force and draining the mana.

As they fed, the biological horrors grew visibly larger and stronger. The vibrant planet rapidly withered into a gray, dead rock.

Helion stared at the holographic destruction. He was surprised, but his heartbeat remained perfectly steady.

He was Lord Commander Helion Goldmane. He was a proud man, and he was the strongest human alive. Fear simply did not exist in his dictionary. Seeing this cosmic threat did not break him.

Instead, a burning, absolute resolve ignited in his chest. He promised himself right then and there that he would eliminate this threat and protect his world at any cost.

"What are those things?" Helion asked, his voice firm and commanding.

"They are the cosmic harvesters," the Void God replied, its voice echoing in Helion’s mind.

"They travel through the stars, devouring worlds to grow stronger. They are the reason behind the Fall of your World! For years, they are spreading Miasma in your world and you have failed to protect the World from them. They are cunning creatures and you have not seen even a bit of their cruelty."

"We have seen a fair share of the cruelty. But tell me more about them. Are they the beasts we fight outside the walls?" Helion questioned.

"No," the Void God answered bluntly.

"The creatures you fight every day are merely your own planet’s native wildlife. They are just pests who grew strong after having a piece of miasma."

Helion’s golden eyes narrowed sharply. "Our wildlife? Miasma?"

"Yes. They have been corrupted and driven rabid by an alien pathogen called Miasma. You have spent a century losing millions of soldiers to your own mutated animals. Compared to the true invaders, your current monsters are incredibly weak. Your generation hasn’t even seen Tigers and Lions. They must be like fairy tails to you. Ever heard of them?" replied Void God.

Helion processed the heavy truth.

"No. I am not a fan of fairy tails. But if they are just mutated animals, what happens if the Miasma is cleared?"

"The corruption would fade," the Void God confirmed.

"Your wildlife might even revert back to their normal forms. There is a possibility, not certainty."

"Then we need to sever the source," Helion stated boldly, his tactical mind racing.

"Who is producing this Miasma? What would it cost to eliminate them?"

"The King-Level Beasts," the Void God explained.

"They are the Commanders of the alien empire, sent to colonize your world. They reside deep within the uncharted territories of your Wildlands. As I said, they are cunning creatures. They do not reveal themselves if they can just do their dirty work using the puppets."

Helion crossed his arms. "If they are so powerful, why are they hiding in the mud? As you said, since they are strong King-level creatures, why not attack in groups and eliminate the Bastions as a whole."

"Because your planet’s rich atmosphere acts as a poison to them," the Void God revealed.

"To preserve their mana and survive, they take on humanoid forms. They are highly intelligent, capable of human speech, and entirely disgusting. Every King-Level Beast is completely unique in its appearance and abilities. They have marked their territories on this massive planet and they do not interfere with one another. The chances of them forming an alliance are quite low."

Helion digested the information. The true enemies were alien humanoids hiding in the shadows.

"Do they control the Miasma?" Helion asked.

"Their very existence bleeds Miasma into your world," the Void God corrected.

"As I said, they each control a specific region of your planet. They sit in the dark, letting their poison slowly terraform your world to prepare it for the harvest. Your days are numbered. The time you have left is about 10 Months. In that time, if you fail to eliminate two of the King Level Beasts, then you are done for!"

"What will happen if we kill one of these Kings?"

"If a King dies, its Miasma dissipates," the Void God stated.

"But do not be arrogant, Commander. Their humanoid bodies are merely shells to preserve energy. When pushed, they will reveal their true, gigantic forms. A single King in its true form is fully capable of erasing a Bastion from the map."

Helion absorbed the terrifying reality of the King-Level Beasts. He glanced to the side, looking at Zero.

He expected the mysterious proxy to offer some profound, intimidating insight about slaying these alien Kings.

Instead, Draven’s clone was completely zoned out.

Zero was just standing there with his hands in his pockets, staring blankly at a piece of floating space dust. He looked completely bored, doing absolutely nothing while the fate of the universe was being discussed.

’To be so detached in the face of the apocalypse,’ Helion thought, deeply respecting Zero’s unwavering calm.

’He truly is a monster.’

"So, the alien Kings are slowly poisoning us from the Wildlands," Helion summarized, turning his attention back to the massive entity.

"But my scouts have patrolled the borders for years. Why has the Vanguard High Council never ordered a full-scale strike to hunt these humanoid Kings down?"

The starry void suddenly grew terrifyingly cold.

"Because every colonization requires native collaborators," the Void God said softly.

"Collaborators who are willing to sell their own world for power. Now here’s a question to test your intelligence. Who do you think is aiding these monsters?"
