Chapter 2697: Alien Village
The Ice Ridge Centipede originally thought these humans were just from Yancheng to conduct trade, but didn’t expect Ma Biaohu to be so terrifying. It turned to flee, moving countless legs to run in the opposite direction, attempting to rush into the snow cave to hide.
But how could Ma Biaohu give it such an opportunity? He directly punched the Ice Ridge Centipede’s head, and immediately, its body seemed to crack like ice, forming fissures. Before it could react, Ma Biaohu grabbed its tail and swung it around, the Ice Ridge Centipede, more than ten meters long, instantly became like a rope, flung around by Ma Biaohu.
"Mercy, mercy!" the Ice Ridge Centipede cried miserably, not expecting this person to have such strength, being in his hands like a hemp rope.
Ma Biaohu, unfinished, had no intention of stopping, occasionally punching the centipede’s body, though he didn’t use full strength, as the Boss said not to kill it.
Seeing the Ice Ridge Centipede begging for mercy and thoroughly subdued, Lin Feng signaled Ma Biaohu to cease. Ma Biaohu then stopped and brought the Ice Ridge Centipede to Lin Feng. By then, it was dizzy and shaken, all its legs trembling uncontrollably, clearly terrified.
"Can we ask you questions now?" Lin Feng said, looking at the poor Ice Ridge Centipede.
"Yes, yes," it quickly replied.
"How much longer until we find the Alien Race’s tribe?" Lin Feng asked directly, feeling that after traveling so long in this Frost Highland, all paths looked the same, it shouldn’t have been the wrong direction, yet they hadn’t seen a single alien.
"Tribe, let me think, it’s been long since I went," the Ice Ridge Centipede thought for a moment and said, "should head west, there should be a village not far away."
"A village? How big, with many people?" Lin Feng had to ask since he hadn’t encountered aliens before and didn’t know if there would be danger, better to be cautious.
The Ice Ridge Centipede pondered again and said, "Just about a dozen people."
Lin Feng felt further questions were meaningless, better to speak upon reaching the village, then told Ma Biaohu, "Let it go."
"What? Let it go? I haven’t had enough yet, Boss," Ma Biaohu looked aggrieved at Lin Feng, capturing a Demon Beast wasn’t easy for him, forbidden to vent was disappointing.
Lin Feng didn’t reply to Ma Biaohu, but Peng Muxue glared at Ma Biaohu, who immediately released the Ice Ridge Centipede and obediently returned to Lin Feng’s side. The group then set off in the direction the Ice Ridge Centipede indicated.
After several days’ journey, they finally saw a distinct village in the entirely snow-covered Frost Highland. The group quickened their pace, and upon arrival, Lin Feng observed that besides uniquely stone-built houses, there was nothing. The village was small, only a few houses, but each was tens of feet tall, built from unknown stones, looking extremely sturdy.
"Boss, these houses look strange," Tangyuan remarked, surveying the surroundings and noting the houses had no windows, only a door, questioning the need for such height on single-story buildings. No one emerged upon entering, truly curious.
"It’s not resting time, why is no one in sight?" Miss Peng also scrutinized the surroundings. The black houses formed a stark contrast against the white snow-covered plain, inducing some fear.
Lin Feng didn’t respond to their words, instead followed the road towards the village center. Soon, Lin Feng saw an elder emerging from a house.
It was Lin Feng’s first time seeing an alien, and he was stunned. This elder of the Alien Race was ten meters tall, skeletal, with ghastly pale skin clinging to the bones, like a walking skeleton. Grey-white dry hair draped over his shoulders, and his eyes emitted a deep blue light.
Deep blue? Lin Feng suddenly remembered the elder who sold him the map mentioning that deep blue eyes were equivalent to a Divine King level in humans. He was surprised why this elder wasn’t shocked at their presence but calmly approached. Before speaking, he realized he could communicate with the elder spiritually.
"Who are you?" Lin Feng asked.
"The village chief," the elder replied.
"Why aren’t you surprised to see humans?" Lin Feng realized that the Alien Race didn’t have a vocal system, communicating exclusively through spiritual power, indicating their substantial mental prowess.
The elder glanced at those behind Lin Feng, then explained, "We have humans coming here for trade."
"Trade?" Lin Feng was curious; with the long distance from Yancheng and the alleged danger of the Frost Highland, why would humans come for trade?
The elder saw that Lin Feng wasn’t here to trade and seemed unfamiliar with the place, so he asked, "What are you here for?"
Lin Feng thought for a moment and felt that the Alien Race wasn’t as terrifying as people from Yancheng said, but rather quite friendly, so he replied politely, "We also wanted to see if there’s anything to trade on the Frost Highland."
He thought it was better to say that, as this village seemed to be just on the outskirts of the Frost Highland. This village chief might not have comprehensive information, so he lied to him.
Upon hearing Lin Feng’s words, the village chief invited Lin Feng and the others into the house to sit down. It was indeed very cold outside, but they were already used to it due to their special physique, so they couldn’t feel it.
Subsequently, Lin Feng and the group entered the house, which was entirely built of black stones. But upon entering, they found the place pitch-black — couldn’t see their fingers stretched out. Because the house was entirely black and had no windows, no outside light could penetrate inside.
"Brother Lin." Tao Tao held Lin Feng’s hand and said, "Why aren’t there any lights here?"
Seeing this situation, Lin Feng suddenly remembered that the Alien Race seemed to have no light sources. This place was extremely primitive, and their eyes had night vision functions, so they didn’t need any light sources. Then he held the Eternal Divine Flame in his hand, illuminating the entire house.
It was only then he saw that there were a few members of the Alien Race sitting inside, and Lin Feng and the group also sat down to learn more about the situation on the entire Frost Highland from the elder.
"Senior, is the Alien Race’s city still far from here?" Lin Feng asked, noting that the village was very primitive and remote. But he thought that since the Alien Race could invade the continent, there must be a strong system, definitely not something a small village could achieve. However, to find such a city, it should still be far away.
The village chief told Lin Feng, "The entire Frost Highland is divided into six major cities, ten small cities, countless tribes; we are the most insignificant existence among the countless tribes. If you want to go to the cities, you’ll have to walk for a long time."
"Senior, I’d like to know where many members of the Alien Race come from?" Lin Feng asked directly. He felt the elder was very kind and that they came to the Alien Race with good intentions, wanting to learn more about them.
The elder, hearing Lin Feng’s question, said to him, "Actually, we could be considered a type of human, but due to mutation, we became like this."
Lin Feng was at a loss to understand the mutation the elder mentioned and continued to watch the elder, waiting for his answer.
"Countless years ago, I don’t quite know how the first batch of Alien Race appeared. Later, our Alien Race abducted human babies to preserve the purity of our bloodline. They were transformed into Alien Race through a life baptism if their aptitude was good, a rebirth in essence. That’s why our population isn’t large." the elder openly said to Lin Feng.
The elder communicated with Lin Feng spiritually; Ma Biaohu and the others from the Alien Race had no idea what they were transmitting, and the room was exceptionally quiet, only the sound of the wind howling outside on the Frost Highland.
"I still can’t understand, what exactly is the method of baptism?" Lin Feng was surprised listening to the elder. He truly believed before that the Alien Race was a unique species from elsewhere, unexpectedly mutated.
"What are Boss and this old man doing?" Ma Biaohu looked curiously at Lin Feng and the elder sitting face to face, eyes closed, saying nothing, curiously glanced at Tao Tao and the others.
"They should be communicating." Tangyuan replied. It had seen something about the Alien Race in books before, but just briefly. Apparently, Boss might be able to glean useful information from this elder.
The elder said, "I’m not comfortable revealing how the transformation works, but if you want to know more, you need to go to bigger cities. After all, we’re far from the cities and have no contact with them."
"Thank you, Senior." Lin Feng thought the elder was kindly reminding him, but he still hadn’t figured out what the Alien Race practiced that made them so formidable. Going to the cities rashly would entail many unknown dangers. It was safer to stay in such a small village, so Lin Feng continued asking, "May I ask, Senior, what does the Alien Race primarily practice."
Although the elder’s strength was only at the Divine King Level human, Lin Feng sensed an overwhelmingly oppressive aura emanating from him, a power far surpassing the human Divine King. He believed the Alien Race had a very special cultivation method.
"Power of Death." the elder told Lin Feng.
"Power of Death?" Lin Feng was puzzled. What training method could this be? It seemed extremely terrifying; he continued to ask, "How do you cultivate?"
The elder said, "That’s why we conduct trade with humans; humans have many remains of deceased individuals from whom we can extract the Power of Death, and the stronger the deceased cultivators’ power, the greater the abilities we obtain."
Listening to the elder, Lin Feng felt the Alien Race was indeed very unique. He then asked, "Could we trouble you to let us stay in the village for a few days? We’ve been traveling nonstop and would like to rest well."
"Sure, no problem." The elder arranged Lin Feng and the others in this house, then he took all the Alien Race members outside.
