Fairy, Don't Be Afraid, I Am Blind
Chapter 733 - 350: Journey Through the Polar Day
The endless daylight phenomenon is a unique occurrence that only appears in the Arctic.
During the period when this endless daylight lasts, the sun remains perpetually overhead, shining brightly even at midnight, as if it were broad daylight, which is why it is called endless daylight.
Some have also summarized a pattern: the farther north you go, the longer the duration of endless daylight. Thus, someone used this to verify the theory that the Five Continents revolve around the sun, rather than the sun revolving around the Five Continents.
Based on this, it is speculated that at the northernmost point of the Five Continents, the North Pole, where the night never encroaches, is the brightest and purest place in the world, known as the Land of Everlasting Daylight. Correspondingly, at the southernmost part of the world, there is a Land of Everlasting Darkness.
Of course, the Land of Everlasting Daylight and the Land of Everlasting Darkness are merely mythical places that exist in people’s fantasies; no one has truly seen them.
However, in the location where the Xuesang Tribe resides, according to the Clan Leader Chen Yi’s thirty years of observational records, the endless daylight persists for nearly ten days here.
You Su sat cross-legged in the snow house, feeling the Profound Qi flowing within his body. These Profound Qi were more active than usual, seemingly affected by the endless daylight.
He slowly exhaled a breath, the vapor from his mouth quickly dissipating into the air without a trace of white mist. He had nearly mastered the art of Snow Breathing, allowing him to maintain his breath even in the howling blizzards.
Clan Leader Chen Yi lifted the animal skin curtain and entered, his face showing a trace of excitement, with a hint of apprehension:
"Immortal Master You Su, are you ready?"
You Su nodded, getting up from the warm bed made of piled furs; in truth, there was nothing he needed to prepare.
The only thing he needed to prepare was perhaps the ability to survive in a blizzard, but over the past few days, his understanding of Snow Breathing had rapidly increased. He could breathe even with his head buried in the snow, with the only limitation on his breathing time being his head’s inability to withstand the extreme cold for long.
"Why must we set out during the endless daylight?" You Su asked the question in his heart, even though the Clan Leader had already talked it over with him.
It wasn’t that he doubted his own skills, but he felt that a migration of the entire tribe was too hasty for these people.
Chen Yi walked to the candle, reaching out with a thin hand to pinch out the oil candle made from animal fat. The extinguished flame cast its final light over his weathered face, making him appear even more worn.
"Because in a blizzard, if you lose the light, you fall into a night-like darkness. In such an environment, finding the right direction or even surviving becomes exceedingly unlikely. But endless daylight at least allows us to face only the wind and snow, without falling into such a mire."
You Su tightened the animal hide robe on him, understanding in his heart.
He stood and stretched his limbs, saying, "Shall we depart now?"
Chen Yi glanced at the bright sky outside, the sun shining, with no clouds in sight. "Yes, we are all ready. I have waited too long for this day."
An unwavering determination flashed in the old man’s eyes; thirty years of waiting had led to this moment.
You Su walked out of the snow house, and the tribe was already a flurry of activity. Clan members were organizing their belongings, packing food, water, and some essential tools. Children ran about in the snow, some shouting excitedly, while others huddled anxiously behind their parents.
"Grandpa Clan Leader... where are we going?" A child smaller than a fawn came over, tugging at the old man’s trousers.
The old man squinted with a smile and replied, "Grandpa is taking you to move to a place not so cold. There, we can light fires in the houses and eat meat every meal."
"Really?! That’s great!" The child cheered and jumped for joy.
There were several other such children; they were the third generation descendants of exiles and had no knowledge of the burdens their ancestors once carried, and it seemed the adults didn’t want them to bear too heavy a load either.
Thirty-one tribesmen, young and old, formed this unique team. Among them were elders like Chen Yi and young children like the fawn, as well as pregnant women. They were ragged, pallid, and emaciated, but their eyes shone with firm resolve.
In private, the old man had told You Su he would not hesitate to return the Divine Radiance Stone to its place at any cost, then go to the Divine Mountain to do penance, seeking redemption with a lifetime, using the names of those prominent figures to earn the Divine Mountain’s forgiveness for these innocent children.
You Su thought this was a feasible plan, but it depended on surviving the pursuit of those prominent figures to reach the Divine Mountain.
He walked to the fawn’s side. The girl was helping her mother pack.
When she saw You Su coming, she beamed a bright smile, "Great deity, are we really going south?"
You Su patted her head, saying, "Yes, we’ll go together."
The girl’s eyes gleamed brighter, nodding vigorously, "Yes!"
The team set out, with Chen Yi leading the front, holding a wooden staff, walking with extraordinary steadiness. He had imagined this path for thirty years and finally set foot on it.
You Su walked in the middle of the team, protected by all the tribesmen in the center.
The vast snowy plain stretched as far as the eye could see, accompanied only by the howling wind and the crunching snow beneath their feet.
They walked for about three to four hours, and You Su could clearly feel the wind and snow becoming fiercer here.
The clan leader stopped and pointed ahead, saying, "Ahead is the edge of the blizzard."
You Su followed Chen Yi’s direction, seeing only a vast expanse of white, snow swirling, obscuring everything from view.
