Angel and April were on a long video call with Grandma Lucinda and Grandma Paula, with the rest of the family gathered closely around them on the screen.

They were all busy checking on the newly married couple and making sure their unborn great-granddaughter was doing well inside April’s tummy.

The call had lasted much longer than either of them expected. Every family member seemed to have something to ask, something to share, or another little update they wanted to hear from the newlyweds.

April had spent most of the call sitting comfortably beside Angel, occasionally touching her stomach whenever the conversation turned toward the baby.

Angel, meanwhile, had mostly been listening and smiling while her grandmothers continued their usual family interrogation.

After the lovely family moment and all the sweet wishes for their future, the call finally ended with a click.

"Thank goodness... I thought they were never going to end the call..." Angel breathed out, relaxing her back against the dining table.

Her grandmothers were really something else when they got going, but she still loved them more than anything, even more than the actual parents who gave birth to her.

It hadn’t even been a full year since Angel moved to Mexico, yet she had already received so much true love and healing from her mother’s side of the family.

The love they gave Angel was the exact kind of love the Alpha had been craving ever since she was just a little girl.

Unconditional love.

It was something she had spent years wanting without even knowing how much she needed it.

With Paula and Lucinda, Angel never had to wonder if she was wanted. They checked on her, worried about her, celebrated her happiness, and treated her like she had always belonged with them.

"At least they are completely aware that we exist, unlike the ones who brought us into this world..." April said softly.

"Are you talking about your mom?" Angel asked, turning her head.

"And your Alpha mom too... I still can’t believe they don’t even care where we are right now..." April said.

Angel sat up straight.

"I thought we both agreed to never contact them anymore... What happened suddenly? You missing your mummy?" Angel looked at the Omega, trying to deeply understand her feelings.

April looked away toward the window, trying to hide what she was feeling inside.

"No..."

Her answer was quick, but the sadness on her face was impossible to hide.

Angel knew that expression too well.

April wasn’t someone who always talked about her pain. Sometimes she kept everything buried until it became too heavy to carry alone.

Angel stood up from her seat and walked directly over to April, who was still sitting quietly on her chair.

She bent down and rested her head right on her wife’s lap.

Taking one of April’s hands, Angel placed it directly on her own head and slowly moved it, almost like a loyal dog enjoying being petted.

The simple gesture made the atmosphere a little softer.

Angel didn’t try to force April to speak immediately. She simply stayed close to her, giving her wife the space to decide what she wanted to share.

"Your mom might not have been the perfect mother in your life, but there must be some good moments you two shared back then... April, please don’t hide your true feelings from me. We are married now, and we are supposed to share everything together. The good and the bad, the pain and pleasure. We are one now... okay?" Angel said in the softest voice possible.

She could clearly see it in her wife’s eyes.

April was sad, but she was finding it really hard to express what she was feeling inside her chest.

There were memories she wished she could forget, but there were also moments from her childhood that she still remembered clearly.

No matter how much someone hurt you, forgetting every single thing they had ever done wasn’t always easy.

April leaned down and softly kissed her wife’s hair, gently petting her head.

"It really hurts to know that these people don’t care about their own children at all. I knew my mom used me as an investment, but I really thought she loved me... but she just doesn’t..." April said, her voice breaking a little.

The words came out slowly, almost as though admitting them made the truth hurt even more.

For years, April had held onto the small hope that somewhere beneath all the pressure and expectations, her mother still cared about her.

But now that she was married and building a family of her own, that hope felt harder to hold onto.

She had wanted her mother to be there.

Not necessarily to fix anything. Just to care.

"Do you want to call her right now?" Angel asked gently.

"No. She will just say harsh words that might ruin our honeymoon... If they are too proud to call us, then we won’t bother them at all. We will just raise our kids right here and be happy together."

Angel didn’t argue with her.

She understood why April didn’t want to risk ruining the peaceful honeymoon they had finally gotten after everything they had gone through.

"Okay... just don’t be sad about it. I have lost all my expectations from my Alpha mother since the very day my Omega mother passed away. I am not even missing her because there is really nothing to miss..."

Angel’s own relationship with her Alpha mother had left behind a different kind of emptiness.

She had stopped expecting anything from that side of her family a long time ago. There was no point waiting for a call that might never come or hoping for affection that had never been given.

That was why Paula and Lucinda meant so much to her.

They had shown her that family could also feel safe.

For a few quiet minutes, the two girls stayed silent in the small kitchen area, leaning on one another for emotional support.

April continued gently stroking Angel’s hair while Angel remained comfortably against her wife’s lap.

Neither of them needed to fill the silence.

They had both experienced the kind of family disappointment that left questions behind, and sometimes simply having someone beside you was enough.

Outside the yacht, the ocean continued moving peacefully. The gentle sound of the water against the side of the yacht filled the quiet spaces around them while the morning slowly continued.

Their honeymoon was supposed to be a time for happiness, and it still was.

But being happy didn’t mean painful memories suddenly disappeared.

No matter how hard they pretended not to care about the people who had forgotten about them, deep down, they still remembered them in their everyday lives.
